Rise in the Martial Chaos: Starting From a Martial Arts School

Chapter 645: Chapter 215: Various Examinations (4)

The Inner Qi from his fingertips, gentle yet precise, probed into the young man’s meridians and bones, meticulously sensing the grade of his Root Bone and the resilience of his meridians.

As the probe deepened, Ouyang Jingxuan’s brow gradually furrowed.

He had read in the sect’s records that Yang Jing’s Root Bone was poor, but now, after examining it himself, he was still astonished by just how bad it was.

When the bone assessment was finished, Ouyang Jingxuan slowly took two steps back, withdrew his hand, and sighed inwardly.

‘Yang Jing clearly possesses astonishing talent for cultivation. He mastered three True Skills up to the Qi Eating Realm in a remarkably short time and triumphed over everyone at the Fushan Grand Tournament. For his Root Bone to be this poor… It’s a true case of the heavens being jealous of great talent. The sect records stated his was an Eighth-Grade Root Bone, but my own examination just now revealed it’s actually Seventh-Grade—a notch better than what was written. It must have been Peak Master Lingxi, Bai Bing, who gave Yang Jing the Bone Jade Pill she won in that bet against Peak Master Zhenyue, Qin Gang. That must be what helped him raise the grade of his Root Bone.’

However, in Ouyang Jingxuan’s eyes, there was no essential difference between a Seventh-Grade and an Eighth-Grade Root Bone.

Both were considered Lower-Grade Root Bones. Compared to Chu Yunhai’s Second-Grade Root Bone, the difference was like night and day. While not the sole deciding factor, it created a massive gap in the assessment of their ultimate cultivation potential.

Ouyang Jingxuan didn’t voice his assessment of their Root Bones. He simply filed the results away in his mind, intending to give his final, comprehensive verdict after all the tests were concluded.

He looked up at Yang Jing and Chu Yunhai, his voice steady as he announced, “The Root Bone test is complete. Next, I will test your comprehension.”

Hearing the word “comprehension,” Yang Jing breathed a small sigh of relief, the taut string in his heart loosening just a bit.

Three days prior, he had taken the Heart Inquiry Pill his master had bestowed upon him. The pill’s effects were wondrous; it had not only allowed him to grasp many mysteries of the Martial Dao, but had also tangibly boosted his own comprehension.

In the past few days, through repeated practice, he’d clearly felt that when he contemplated problems of the Martial Dao or tried to understand martial techniques, his mind worked nearly ten percent faster than before.

For a Martial Artist, comprehension was far more important than one’s Root Bone. It was the key to grasping the True Meaning of Martial Arts.

A ten percent improvement was already an astonishing transformation.

‘Thank goodness for the boost from the Heart Inquiry Pill. Otherwise, I’m afraid I wouldn’t stand much of a chance against Chu Yunhai in today’s comprehension test.’

Yang Jing glanced sideways at Chu Yunhai.

The other man still wore the same calm and confident expression, a faint smile playing on his lips. His aura was steady, and he didn’t seem the least bit nervous now that the Root Bone test was over. Clearly, he was just as confident in his own comprehension.

Yang Jing didn’t know much about Chu Yunhai, but he had heard that his comprehension was exceptionally high. Paired with a Second-Grade Root Bone, his cultivation efficiency was said to rival that of the world’s rarest super-geniuses—those with a First-Grade Root Bone. He was the acknowledged prodigy of Jintai Prefecture’s younger generation.

Just as Yang Jing was lost in thought, Ouyang Jingxuan’s voice rang out again, reaching both their ears clearly. “The test of comprehension hinges on the speed and depth with which you can grasp martial arts. This is the key to judging your potential.”

He paused, then continued, “Next, I will personally demonstrate a basic martial art. You two must watch with your full concentration. Do not allow yourselves to be distracted for even a moment.

“After I finish the demonstration, you will be given one hour to study and comprehend it.

“After that hour is up, you will each, in turn, demonstrate the martial art I just performed. Whoever shows a deeper comprehension—whose movements are more precise and whose fist intent is more profound—will be judged as having the superior comprehension.”

Yang Jing and Chu Yunhai’s expressions both turned solemn. They pushed aside all distracting thoughts and fixed their gazes on Ouyang Jingxuan. Nodding gravely, they replied in unison, “Yes, Elder!”
