Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 36: 36. Harvest

The unbearable sound of metal twisting came from the bottom of the spaceship.

Following it was a loud crash as the spaceship hit the ground.

However, Chen Ming was clearly not a fool. If the spaceship had really crashed hard onto the ground, he wouldn’t have fared well.

So before doing this, Chen Ming used the spaceship’s computer to calculate some data about the ship.

With this data, Chen Ming could choose a specific time to activate the cushioning device.

This would limit the ship’s falling speed to within the impact range that the spaceship’s armor could withstand just before it hit the ground.

Therefore, the impact of the landing did not cause any damage to the spaceship itself.

Except that some small items on the ship might fall to the ground with a couple of jolts, but there would be no major problems.

Just as he was thinking about this, Chen Ming saw Little Rock running out from the storage cabin and climbing onto his shoulder.

Its little paws pressed on its head, its eyes full of confusion and puzzlement.

Chen Ming reached out to stroke its head, comforting it, and continued with his task.

At this moment, the three-dimensional image of the spaceship in Chen Ming’s eyes showed noticeable changes.

Three pieces of armor at the bottom of the spaceship were dented, clearly due to the ship crashing onto the Mechanical Race.

One had to admit that the Mechanical Race was truly tough, as the dents in the armor almost resembled the shape of the Mechanical Race.

However, no matter how tough the Mechanical Race’s armor was, the precise electronic components inside couldn’t withstand the impact of a ton-heavy spaceship.

Since the spaceship began hitting the ground, the dull hammering sound of the Mechanical Race’s electromagnetic weapon had completely stopped.

At this point, Chen Ming didn’t hear any strange noises coming from beneath the spaceship.

The Mechanical Race was probably unable to stand up again.

Chen Ming controlled the spaceship to lift off while repairing the ship’s armor.

After a gradually increasing sense of exhaustion, the metallic liquid flowing from the storage cabin squeezed the Mechanical Race bodies stuck at the bottom of the spaceship out, and three mechanical bodies fell to the ground like broken dolls.

Their appearance looked relatively intact, but Chen Ming couldn’t tell what they were like inside.

The spaceship landed again on the empty ground beside it.

Chen Ming got off the spaceship and began to clean up the battlefield.

Using brute strength and a small cart salvaged from the Space Station, he moved everything that seemed valuable onto the spaceship after ensuring their safety.

At this moment, Chen Ming had to admit that the Mechanical Race was quite considerate.

Before the spaceship landed, they proactively distanced themselves from the Mind Pulse Device’s wreckage, preventing the ship from crushing any potentially valuable remains in the debris.

The items left by the Mechanical Race weren’t much, and Chen Ming finished collecting them quickly before returning to the spaceship.

After reviewing everything a few times to confirm nothing was missed.

The spaceship took off again, returning to the temporary camp.

Here, Chen Ming finally relaxed.

The accumulated fatigue from multiple repairs on the spaceship flooded his brain.

However, Chen Ming forced himself to stay awake and even excitedly began to tally up his gains this time.

It seemed that there wasn’t much worth inventorying among what he got from the Mechanical Race.

In total, he had three Mechanical Race bodies, two combat models, one maintenance model, along with the remains of a Mind Pulse Generator, and that was about it.

However, looking at it from another perspective, although the quantity of this harvest wasn’t much, the quality was quite high.

Especially the two combat Mechanical Race units.

Chen Ming’s eyes kept scanning over the large electromagnetic weapons on their right arms, his hands involuntarily feeling the cold touch of the gun barrels.

Even though both electromagnetic weapons, nearly 1.7 meters long, appeared somewhat old due to the spaceship’s heavy pressure, the slight bends didn’t hinder Chen Ming’s appreciation.

After all, these were the very weapons that could pierce through the spaceship’s armor with a single shot.

Chen Ming fiddled with the electromagnetic weapon for quite a while and suddenly let out a satisfied breath.

Having satisfied his curiosity, he was clear about what to do next.

Chen Ming went to the captain’s cabin, taking the maintenance kit into the storage cabin.

The company was generous in providing these maintenance tools, including cutting tools made from special level metallic materials.

This material was of a higher grade than those collected by the Type II Mining Laser·Modified.

Although Chen Ming wasn’t sure which material it was, he tried it directly and found that the cutting tool could indeed cut through the Mechanical Race’s armor.

So he promptly removed the two large electromagnetic weapons.

Then he nervously opened the machine gun panel and chose to replace it.

When an option appeared on the replacement panel, Chen Ming’s sense of tension dissipated.

As he had anticipated earlier, Mechanical Race weapons could indeed be used as ship weapons.

And the name of this electromagnetic weapon appeared on the replacement panel.

[Type I Mechanical Race Electromagnetic Spear]

A simple and plain name, yet it carried the weapon’s characteristic, spear.

Its penetrating ability indeed lived up to the name.

Chen Ming selected it from the panel, and a new panel promptly appeared.

[Type I Mechanical Race Electromagnetic Spear]

[Type: Small Kinetic Energy Weapon]

[Manufacturer: Mechanical Race RMW-113 Mother Ship]

[Ammunition Load: 3/50]

[Effective Range: 20,000 meters]

[Fire Rate: 10 rounds/minute]

[Durability: 9%]

[Proceed with Replacement: Yes/No]

Chen Ming blinked uncertainly at the panel’s content.

Once he confirmed he hadn’t misread, he quickly recorded all the text following the manufacturer on his terminal.

If Chen Ming remembered the news he once read correctly, the Mother Ship should be a type of aircraft carrier belonging to the Mechanical Race.

However, the Mechanical Race’s aircraft carriers were still too far out of reach for Chen Ming now.

So after noting down the manufacturer, Chen Ming focused on the weapon’s properties.

The Type I Mechanical Race Electromagnetic Spear, like the machine gun, was a small kinetic weapon.

This wasn’t surprising to Chen Ming.

Although the gun itself was quite large compared to a human’s stature, it was relatively small for a ship, and there was no issue labeling it a small weapon.

Rather, the point that a weapon used by a single Mechanical Race soldier could serve as a ship weapon was quite intriguing.

And while its fire rate displayed on the panel seemed somewhat lacking compared to the machine gun’s, its power seemed to compensate for the lost rate of fire.

Chen Ming pressed ’Yes’ on the panel.

The Charged Spear, which had just been dismantled from the floor, suddenly melted, turning from a grey-green exterior to a bright white and flowing toward the outside of the ship.

It seemed that the grey-green was an oxidation layer, and the Mechanical Race was supposed to be this bright white.

As the bright white liquid flowed out, some ordinary metal liquid flowed in from outside the ship simultaneously.

This metal liquid gradually coalesced in front of Chen Ming into the shape of a transformed machine gun, quietly lying on the ground.

On the ship’s panel, the left weapon had been replaced with the Electromagnetic Spear.

Looking at the pitiful 9% durability on the panel, Chen Ming’s gaze turned to the Mechanical Race armor that had just been the same color as the Electromagnetic Spear.

Then he picked up tools and cut some pieces of armor from the Mechanical Race to use as materials.

After confirming that this material was White Cloud Steel, a type of advanced metal, Chen Ming pressed the repair button for the weapon.

The bright white liquid, mixed with other necessary materials for repairing the Electromagnetic Spear, flowed outside the spaceship.

Soon, a brand-new Type I Mechanical Race Electromagnetic Spear appeared in front of his eyes.

This weapon, filled with nostalgic fantasies, made it difficult for Chen Ming to contain his excitement.

Unfortunately, there was no target to test fire on now.

Like a child who just got a new toy gun, this thought suddenly popped into Chen Ming’s mind.

Wait a second.

Seems like there is one.

Chen Ming raised his head, looking at the spaceship’s ceiling.

Through the ceiling and further up is the Space Station filled with the Insect Race in space.
