Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Repair

After reviewing the spaceship’s type panel, Chen Ming gained a general understanding of the ship itself.

After some thought, he continued to click on the right-wing weapon, which was the still intact Machine Gun tab.

[22mm Machine Gun]

[Type: Small Kinetic Energy Weapon]

[Manufacturer: Sinda Rockwell Weapons Company]

[Ammo Load: 231/1000]

[Effective Accurate Kill Range: 2000 meters]

[Rate of Fire: 240 rounds/minute]

[Durability: 54%]

[Available Actions: Replace/Repair]

”Hmm?”

Chen Ming didn’t expect that the seemingly intact Machine Gun was actually not in that good of a condition, also needing repairs.

However, in Chen Ming’s memory, this type and caliber of Machine Gun is often used on civilian spaceships, meant to prevent some space meteors and provide the most basic defense in battle; the overall structure is relatively simple.

As long as there are materials, repairs are the simplest thing to do.

But this panel is different from the one Chen Ming opened before in the [Spaceship Repair Guide].

Besides [Repair], there is also a [Replace] option here.

Chen Ming attempted to click on it.

A new panel popped up in front of him, but it was completely empty.

This might be because there are no spare alternative weapons available on the ship.

Chen Ming directly closed it, and it seemed that the [Replace] option would have to be addressed later.

However, this panel made Chen Ming notice a problem.

To perform more detailed operations and gain understanding of a certain part of the ship, one must open a more detailed panel.

Just like the external armor of the spaceship.

On the previous [Spaceship Repair Guide] panel, Chen Ming could see the overall armor condition of the spaceship, with a general durability of about 60%.

However, when Chen Ming opened the [Armor: Aluminum-Steel Composite External Armor] tab, he could see more detailed conditions of all the spaceship’s armor.

Including six directions: front, port, starboard, top, bottom, and aft.

Here, Chen Ming noticed some issues.

The armor on the left side of the ship was extensively damaged, with a total durability that had plummeted to 24%.

Other armor segments also sustained damage, with the top and bottom armor suffering minimal wear at about 80% each.

The spaceship looked fine as a whole, but certain areas might already be precariously unstable.

Therefore, Chen Ming should meticulously examine every part of the entire spaceship panel.

If possible, Chen Ming could also suit up in a Protective Suit and go outside to inspect, in case there are damaged areas unnoticed for repairs.

Now that this panel had been opened entirely, Chen Ming planned to try out this repair function as a preliminary experiment for later repairing the Landing Module.

Previously, when Chen Ming attempted to repair the entire spaceship at once, there was an issue of insufficient materials.

But the materials needed for repairing a single Machine Gun should still be available.

Chen Ming recalled that when he last searched the storage bay for food, he had seen some materials.

And luckily, their presence was shown on the [Repair] panel as well.

They perfectly suited this purpose.

Chen Ming got up and went into the storage bay, suddenly remembering that the refrigerator next to it had insect eggs and insect corpses.

However, Chen Ming was not in a hurry to deal with them for now.

Because, in some circumstances, they might become Chen Ming’s last resort.

Inside the storage bay, Chen Ming once again saw the minerals harvested by the crew thirty years ago, stored here.

Part of them were even smelted already, cast into ingots and placed here for immediate use.

Chen Ming opened the panel of the completely damaged Machine Gun.

[22mm Machine Gun]

[Type: Small Kinetic Energy Weapon]

[Manufacturer: Sinda Rockwell Weapons Company]

[Ammo Load: 1/1000]

[Effective Kill Range: 2000 meters]

[Durability: 7%]

[Available Actions: Replace/Repair]

Its durability was a pitiable 7%, and the remaining ammo was down to a single round in the chamber.

Without thinking much, Chen Ming directly clicked on the [Repair] button on the panel.

The new page that appeared displayed the various materials required for the repair, and those before him were sufficient.

Chen Ming clicked the confirm button once more.

Immediately, his mind felt as if it had been drained, with a wave of exhaustion instantly sweeping over his brain.

Simultaneously, the necessary materials on the shelf in front of him melted like liquid, flowing through the ship’s power system and out of the ship.

Through the external cameras of the spaceship, Chen Ming could see the damaged 22mm caliber Machine Gun absorbing the metal liquid and gradually restoring its broken appearance to its original state.

The durability on the panel returned to 100%, and the repair button vanished accordingly.

Even though Chen Ming was not feeling well due to using this Repair Ability, he was quite satisfied with the effect and was about to turn off the camera view.

But just then, Chen Ming suddenly noticed that the ammo count of the Machine Gun he had just repaired reset to 1000/1000.

Chen Ming contemplated this and decided to test fire in a deserted direction, resulting in about ten rounds being fired under his control.

Yet Chen Ming clearly remembered that, before the repair, this Machine Gun only had one bullet left in the chamber.

To confirm his eyesight hadn’t been mistaken, Chen Ming reopened the panel of another still functioning Machine Gun.

Its durability was 54%, with 231 rounds of ammo left.

Chen Ming pressed the [Repair] button again.

Repairing this Machine Gun required similar materials, though the quantity was much less than what was needed for the completely damaged one.

Chen Ming chose to confirm.

Immediately, a sense of fatigue overtook his brain once again, as his mental energy was being drained.

However, compared to earlier, the consumption was much less, and Chen Ming could still endure it.

This time, Chen Ming split his focus between the metallic liquid flowing outside the ship and monitoring the changes on the panel.

As had happened before, the bullets Chen Ming used while shooting bugs that were chasing him were all replenished, with ammo count back to 1000/1000.

[Repair] could even restore the spent bullets, which was rather astonishing.

Witnessing this, Chen Ming increasingly felt that his ability was quite extraordinary.

Since the outcome was so exceptional, there was no need for Chen Ming to worry about the landing system repairs in the future.

Even though he was but a half-baked Maintenance Master with mere memories, with materials and the panel alone, he could repair the ship.

Yet Chen Ming did not want to purely rely on this panel; he hoped to do what he could handle personally.

Learning a skill, or reviewing and mastering a skill, is always beneficial.

Feeling somewhat fatigued, Chen Ming postponed repairing the external armor, fearing he might pass out if he continued.

After taking a brief break to alleviate some mental fatigue.

Chen Ming planned to undertake something else next.

For instance, considering how to utilize the planting bay.
