The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 196: Chapter 196: Beg Me? You Think You’re Worthy?

Ye Chutang was cunning, and her brother was cut from the same cloth—a complete rogue!

Ye Shixian, however, was unaware that the siblings across from her had survived a famine years ago, crawling out from a pile of corpses. They would never let themselves be pushed around for the sake of so-called ”face.”

’Face?’

’Besides, wasn’t the first one to be shameless Ye Heng, who forcibly seized his own brother’s inheritance?’

’I really don’t know where she gets such thick skin, to have the nerve to even mention the word ’family’!’

Seeing Ye Yunfeng’s insolent demeanor, Ye Shixian gritted her teeth and resolved to ignore him.

She wiped the tear stains from her face with a handkerchief, took a few steps forward, and looked at Shen Yanchuan with shimmering, tear-filled eyes.

”Princely Heir, the injustice against my father has yet to be righted, so Han Yao cannot die! I beg you, you must rescue him! I would be eternally grateful!”

As she spoke, she moved as if to kneel.

However, in the next instant, a cold and indifferent male voice sounded, causing her to freeze in place.

”Beg me? And by what right do you ask?”

Stunned, Ye Shixian looked up, only to see Shen Yanchuan standing with his hands clasped behind his back. He turned his head slightly and swept his gaze over her.

That single glance was profound and unfathomable, cold and utterly indifferent.

His dark eyes were like an unfathomable abyss, concealing every ripple of emotion within, allowing no outsider to see even a hint of it.

The blood in Ye Shixian’s veins seemed to freeze, and her limbs went ice-cold.

His dismissive glance clearly said—

’You think you’re worthy?’

’The Han Family is in trouble. Why would they need an outsider like her to plead on their behalf?’

Ye Shixian felt as if he had seen straight through her, and she was utterly mortified. All the carefully prepared lines she had ready were now stuck in her throat.

’So be it... so be it!’

’As long as Han Yao dies today, all my problems will be solved! What does a moment of humiliation matter?’

Ye Shixian dug her nails into her palm and bit her lip. With an expression of pained forbearance, she retreated without another word.

The fire raged, the air scorching hot. The CRACKLE and POP of burning objects was clearly audible.

Ye Shixian was silently counting the seconds when she suddenly heard a clear, melodious voice.

”Oh?”

Ye Chutang seemed to take a few steps to the side. Ye Shixian frowned inwardly, unwilling to even spare her a glance.

’Now, all I have to do is wait—’

”Does that look like Han Yao?” Ye Chutang murmured softly.

At the mention of his name, Ye Shixian’s heart sank, and she whipped her head up to look.

”What!?”

Ye Chutang tilted her head and pointed.

”You know Han Yao quite well. Take a look—the person coming out of that side door, isn’t that him?”

Ye Shixian instinctively looked over. The moment she saw the familiar, hunched figure emerge, something inside her mind snapped.

The man was a wretched sight. If it wasn’t Han Yao, who else could it be?

Flanking him were two women, one on each side.

The woman on the left was visibly pregnant, her pretty face pale and disheveled. It was none other than Su Pei’er.

And the one on the right was her young maid.

As they drew closer, the crowd realized that Han Yao was still unconscious. The mistress and her maid were supporting him, having somehow managed to drag him out of the inferno!

The great fire had clearly terrified them. They walked with vacant eyes and expressions of utter panic.

Ye Chutang was the first to approach them.

Upon seeing her, Su Pei’er’s face lit up with relief, as if she had just seen her savior.

The young maid burst into tears outright.

”Doctor Ye! You’re really here! I knew it, I knew it! I knew you’d come back for us!”
