The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Will the Princely Heir Go?

When Ye Chutang arrived at the Han Family’s residence again, only a few scattered servants remained in the courtyard.

The Han Family was going through turbulent times, and after yesterday’s incident, everyone was keeping their distance. The residence was utterly deserted.

Ye Chutang entered the inner room to find Su Pei’er drinking her medicine.

”How are you feeling today?” Ye Chutang asked in a gentle voice.

Su Pei’er’s lips were pale, but she offered a smile.

”With Doctor Ye here, I’m naturally feeling much better.”

Ye Chutang nodded.

Su Pei’er paused, biting her lip slightly. ”It’s just... Mr. Han doesn’t seem to have woken up yet. I can’t help but worry...”

An almost imperceptible arch formed in Ye Chutang’s brow.

”The poison he was afflicted with is quite potent, so he’ll likely need a long time to recuperate. But you don’t need to worry. I’ll go check on him in a moment.”

Su Pei’er made a move to throw back the covers and get out of bed. ”Then I’ll go with you, Doctor Ye...”

Ye Chutang pressed her back down.

”There’s no need. Just rest easy and wait here. I’ll be right back.”

Su Pei’er looked up into those dark, clear, and placid eyes, and finally nodded.

”Alright. I’ll have to trouble you then, Doctor Ye.”

A faint smile touched Ye Chutang’s lips.

”It’s my duty.”

After placating Su Pei’er, Ye Chutang turned and went to Han Yao’s room.

Compared to yesterday, the number of guards had been drastically reduced. Only a single Han Family servant was left.

When the servant saw it was Ye Chutang, he looked as if he’d seen his savior and quickly ushered her inside.

”Doctor Ye, you’re finally here! Please, take a look. The young master has been unconscious for a whole day with no sign of waking. What are we going to do?”

Ye Chutang waved her hand, gesturing for him to leave first.

The servant didn’t dare disobey her. Though anxious, he still retreated outside.

Once the door was shut, silence fell upon the room once more.

Ye Chutang did not immediately check Han Yao’s pulse. She simply sat there quietly, doing nothing.

After a good while, she looked down, casually straightened her cuffs, and finally spoke.

”Your father’s execution is scheduled for tomorrow. If you wake up soon, you can still see him off.”

The person on the bed remained still, but the hand resting casually by his side trembled slightly.

Ye Chutang continued in a slow, deliberate tone, ”Today must be your last Mid-Autumn Festival together, right? A pity. It’s supposed to be a day for reunions.”

Han Yao’s eyelids twitched.

...

It was the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the streets were adorned with lanterns and colorful streamers. Throngs of people bustled about, filling the air with a lively, festive atmosphere.

Yet, at the Ye Family estate, the main gates were shut tight. A deep sense of fear and worry hung over everyone inside.

—No one could feel happy until Ye Heng returned safely.

Ye Shixian stood in the courtyard, gazing toward the Imperial Palace. She twisted a handkerchief in her hands, her eyes filled with unspeakable resentment.

”The Ye Family was supposed to have a place at the palace banquet tonight.”

Shaoyao tried to comfort her. ”Miss, please don’t worry. Isn’t Mr. Murong helping?”

Ye Shixian bit her lip. ”But a whole night has passed, and there’s still no word from him...”

Just as she spoke, a servant came running over.

”Eldest Miss! Mr. Murong has sent a letter!”

A flash of joy crossed Ye Shixian’s face, and she strode forward a couple of steps. ”Let me see it!”

Heedless of anything else, she immediately tore open the letter. It contained only a few short sentences, but after reading it, Ye Shixian let out a long sigh of relief.

Murong Ye wrote that he planned to use tonight’s Mid-Autumn palace banquet to inquire about the situation for her. If an opportunity arose, he would even plead with His Majesty on Ye Heng’s behalf, hoping to clear his name and secure his early return home.

Looking at the letter in her hand, Ye Shixian’s anxious heart finally settled a little.

No matter what, as long as Murong Ye was willing to help, there was a glimmer of hope!

But—

’Mr. Murong doesn’t hold an official post right now. Relying on him alone isn’t safe enough. I have to think of another way...’

Remembering something, she suddenly turned her head and asked, ”By the way, did the Heir of Dingbei Marquis Mansion say whether he would be attending?”
