Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and understood that she hadn’t completely emerged from the shadows of her past.

On top of that, after she moved in with the Linden Family, their attitude toward her had been full of prejudice. Although it had improved recently, she still wasn’t completely ready to be with Nathan Fawcett, so it was only natural for her to hesitate.

Mrs. Sutton said, “Anne, no matter what, Mom will support you! Even if you never want to get married, that’s okay. Whatever kind of life you live, the most important thing is that you’re happy.”

Anne Sutton looked at Mrs. Sutton, realizing her mother had become much more clear-headed since the divorce.

She said, “Thank you, Mom.”

Mrs. Sutton said, “Go to bed early! Get some rest, you must be tired today.”

“Okay.”

Despite saying so, Anne Sutton couldn’t fall asleep.

She sat by the window, staring outside for a while, when her phone rang.

It was a call from Nathan Fawcett.

Anne Sutton glanced at her phone, but just as she was hesitating, the call ended.

…

‘Did he call by mistake?’

Anne Sutton couldn’t figure him out.

Nathan Fawcett had had a bit too much to drink tonight.

He was currently sitting in a car.

His car was parked right outside Anne Sutton’s house.

He gazed at the building.

Butler Walters, sitting beside him, looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, “Sir, should I go ask Ms. Sutton to open the door?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “No need.”

He wanted to see her, but at the same time, he was afraid to.

‘Maybe it was because he’d had too much to drink, but Caleb Summers’s words kept replaying in his mind.’

‘Does she really not like me?’

‘Otherwise, why wouldn’t she want to be with me?’

He thought that he and Anne Sutton had been getting along so well recently.

He never imagined she would reject him so decisively!

Butler Walters looked at his master, wanting to say something but not knowing how.

He said, “Sir, perhaps Ms. Sutton has her own concerns. Please don’t take it to heart! I’ve seen how well you two have been getting along recently.”

Nathan Fawcett said to Butler Walters, “Let’s go back.”

Hearing his words, Butler Walters nodded, told the driver to drive, and they left the Sutton house.

Back at home, Butler Walters helped Nathan Fawcett through the door. He had drunk a lot today, and as soon as he was inside, he collapsed onto the floor.

Butler Walters was startled and quickly helped him up and onto the bed.

A short while later, Butler Walters called Chloe Chase over. Looking at Nathan Fawcett lying on the bed, Chloe frowned and asked the butler, “Why did he drink so much?”

Butler Walters said, “What happened today put Sir in a bad mood.”

“He can just abuse his body like this because he’s in a bad mood? Doesn’t he know the state of his own health?”

Butler Walters looked at Chloe Chase and said, “It’s all my fault. I couldn’t stop him.”

Chloe Chase said, “The Young Miss is already asleep by now.”

It wouldn’t be right for her to wake Anna Linden.

She had Nathan Fawcett drink some warm water and gave him some medicine.

She looked at Butler Walters and asked, “Hasn’t Anne Sutton come back yet?”

“No,” Butler Walters said. “Ms. Sutton went to her mother’s place today.”

Chloe Chase glanced at Nathan Fawcett on the bed and said to Butler Walters, “Let him rest for now. Come and get me if anything changes.”

Butler Walters nodded.

Anne Sutton went to bed quite late that night. She sat alone by the window for a long time before finally taking a shower.

When she came out, she picked up her phone and sent a message to Nathan Fawcett, asking, “How is Ian?”

‘Actually, Ian was back at the Linden family’s home, and with people there to take care of him, he should be fine.’

‘She was just messaging him as an excuse to start a conversation.’

However, after waiting for a long time, Nathan Fawcett still hadn’t replied.

Anne Sutton frowned. ‘Is he angry?’

Lying in bed, seeing that Nathan Fawcett still hadn’t replied, she decided to just go to sleep.

When Nathan Fawcett woke up the next morning, it was already after nine.

He had drunk a lot last night. Because of his health, he rarely drank that heavily.

Last night was an exception.

Although he had insisted he was fine in front of his friends, Anne Sutton’s rejection was still a significant blow to him.

Hearing a cough from the bedroom, Butler Walters came in and said, “Sir.”

Nathan Fawcett was wearing only a white shirt, and it was already soaked with sweat.

He held a handkerchief and coughed for a long time. When he finally stopped, there was even blood on it.

Since his health had improved, Butler Walters had rarely seen such a sight.

Seeing the scene before him now, he was terrified. “Sir, are you all right?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “I’m fine. Have Ian and Finn gone to school?”

Butler Walters replied, “Yes, they should be at school by now. Should I call Ms. Sutton and ask her to come back and see you?”

“No,” Nathan Fawcett said. “I’m fine, I just had too much to drink. Don’t tell her.”

Butler Walters sighed. Seeing his master in such a wretched state, he felt terrible.

‘If he had known,’ he thought, ‘it would have been better to just go find Anne Sutton last night. Things might have turned out better.’

Butler Walters looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, “Would you like to eat something?”

“I have no appetite.” Nathan Fawcett pulled the covers over himself and lay back down.

Anne Sutton had already arrived at the hospital for the day.

She sat down in her office, opened her phone, and saw that Nathan Fawcett still hadn’t replied to her message.

‘Looks like he really is angry.’

‘Then again, given what happened last night, it would be strange if he wasn’t angry.’

‘If I were in his shoes, I’d probably be angry too.’

Since his reaction was expected, Anne Sutton didn’t feel particularly sad about it.

She had feelings for Nathan Fawcett.

But she was certain that her feelings for him hadn’t reached the point of marriage.

‘Maybe it’s because I’ve seen too many failed marriages that I just can’t bring myself to have any hope for it.’

‘I always feel that no matter how intense the love is now, after a little time, all sorts of problems will inevitably emerge.’

‘Now that she had rejected Nathan Fawcett, it would only be natural if he never sought her out again.’

Stella Shields was on set today. As she was getting her makeup done, someone walked in. “I’ve got some earth-shattering gossip for you guys.”

She was on her phone, browsing the web, when she overheard a few people having a heated discussion.

“Nathan Fawcett proposed to Anne Sutton, and she rejected him.”

When Stella Shields heard this, she found it ridiculous. ‘They’ll make up any kind of news these days!’

She spoke up, “Where did you hear such a ridiculous rumor?”

“A friend of my cousin’s is really close with them. He was there yesterday, so he heard it directly. How could it be fake?”

“Anne Sutton would reject Nathan Fawcett’s proposal?” Stella Shields rolled her eyes at the woman spreading the gossip. “Do you have any idea how rich Nathan Fawcett is now? Do you even know who he is?”

‘A woman like Anne Sutton, who had a child for Nathan Fawcett just for the money, would now reject a proposal from the Head of the Linden Family?’

‘The Linden Family is way, way richer than the Fawcett Group!’
