Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”...” Charles Prescott fell silent. He had to admit he had been too busy.

And Mia Shaw would never let on about it in front of him.

Their relationship was already strained to begin with.

She only ever pulled her stunts behind his back.

Anne Sutton said, ”How old is Leo? Do you know how Mia Shaw abused him while you were away? She wouldn’t let him sleep all night, locked him up at the drop of a hat, forced him to stand in a corner, and verbally humiliated him... Charles Prescott, do you even deserve to be a father? Do you?”

Anne Sutton’s aggressive questioning silenced Charles Prescott.

As Anne Sutton spoke, Sylvia Warren, who was standing to the side, started wiping away tears.

Her heart ached at the thought of what her son had been forced to endure.

She had thought that after the last incident, Mia Shaw would at least show some restraint. Who knew she would only become even more outrageous.

She said to Charles Prescott, ”All you do is side with Mia Shaw! Since you can’t protect our child, then give him to me. I can raise him!”

’At least he won’t be bullied anymore!’

Charles Prescott glanced at Anne Sutton, who was sitting on the sofa and staring intently at him. He said, ”I’ll go check on Leo.”

With that, he walked upstairs.

Sylvia Warren watched his retreating back and said worriedly to Anne Sutton, ”Ms. Sutton, what do we do? If he takes Leo away, with things having blown up like this, will Mia Shaw take it out on Leo?”

Anne Sutton said, ”What’s the rush?”

...

When Charles Prescott got upstairs, he saw Leo sleeping next to Ian. It was still early, so neither of the boys was awake.

Leo was asleep on the bed. Charles Prescott frowned as he saw a scar peeking out from under the cuff of his pajama pants.

He had come over today intending to take Leo with him, but thinking about what Mia Shaw had been doing recently, Charles Prescott’s heart grew heavy.

He didn’t wake Leo and went back downstairs.

Seeing that he hadn’t brought Leo down, Anne Sutton asked, ”What’s wrong? Not taking him with you?”

Charles Prescott said, ”I’ll come back for him later.”

Anne Sutton watched Charles Prescott, raising an eyebrow.

Charles Prescott quickly walked out.

Nathan Fawcett came down from upstairs and saw Anne Sutton sitting with Sylvia Warren. She had been busy with Leo’s situation since yesterday.

Seeing Anne Sutton so full of righteous indignation, Nathan Fawcett didn’t say anything.

The child was innocent.

Besides, he didn’t think Anne Sutton had done anything wrong.

...

Charles Prescott returned home. Mia Shaw had been viciously attacked by an online mob. It was her first time experiencing the horrors of the internet, and she hadn’t slept all night. She looked haggard.

When she saw Charles Prescott return, she threw herself into his arms. ”Honey, you’re finally back.”

She actually managed to look somewhat weak and pitiful at that moment.

Charles Prescott just looked at her, unmoving, and didn’t embrace her back.

He reached out, pushed her away, and said to Mia Shaw, ”Let’s get a divorce.”

Hearing this, Mia Shaw looked at Charles Prescott in disbelief. ”A divorce?”

Charles Prescott said, ”Ever since I married you, you’ve become a completely different person. I never should have gotten together with you in the first place! Mia Shaw, marrying you was the biggest mistake of my life.”

”Ha...” Mia Shaw retorted, ”Do you have any idea what you’re saying? You think you can stay at SV Company after divorcing me?”

”It’s my fault,” Charles Prescott said. ”I was too desperate to make a comeback, so I let you threaten me and chose to marry you. But now that things have come to this, I really can’t go on like this anymore.”

Mia Shaw said, ”But I don’t want a divorce.”

’I won’t accept this!’

Even though Charles Prescott had no feelings for her, and even though their marriage was mostly just them torturing each other, she didn’t want to divorce this man.

”I’m informing you, not negotiating with you. After the divorce, I will leave SV, and I will leave the automotive industry.”

’From the moment I left the Fawcett Group, my career in this industry was already over. I was just too naive.’

Mia Shaw asked, ”Why? Is it because of Leo?”

”I warned you not to take your anger out on the child,” Charles Prescott said. ”But you clearly didn’t listen.”

Mia Shaw clenched her fists tightly. ”Charles Prescott, he’s just a bastard...”

Hearing her words, Charles Prescott shoved her onto the sofa. Looking at this crazed woman, he deeply regretted his past decisions for the first time.

’She cheated on me, abused my son... what on earth was I thinking, putting up with it for so long, right up until now...’

’Even I find it laughable. When did I become this kind of person?’

...

Upstairs, Charles Prescott called for the maid, had all of Mia Shaw’s things packed up, and threw everything out—including her.

Mia Shaw stood at the door in her slippers, staring at the house that belonged to him. She had thought that since she’d gotten him the job, he would be putty in her hands. She never imagined he would actually move to divorce her.

The divorce was handled quickly.

Charles Prescott didn’t even hire a lawyer; he took care of everything himself.

Only after settling all this did he go back to pick up Leo.

Sylvia Warren hadn’t gone to any of her scheduled appearances in the last two days either. The internet was in an uproar, denouncing Mia Shaw.

Charles Prescott came over with his and Mia Shaw’s divorce certificate, tossed it in front of Anne Sutton, and said, ”I’ve divorced Mia Shaw. Now, can I take my child?”

Sylvia Warren picked up the divorce certificate and glanced at it, then looked at Charles Prescott in disbelief. ”So fast? Then what about your job?”

”I left SV,” Charles Prescott said, looking at Anne Sutton. ”There shouldn’t be any more problems now, right?”

Since he was no longer with Mia Shaw, she wouldn’t have the opportunity to abuse his son anymore.

Anne Sutton looked at Sylvia Warren and asked, ”What do you think?”

Sylvia Warren replied, ”As long as he isn’t living with Mia Shaw, I have no objections.”

She wasn’t dead set on fighting for custody; she just didn’t want to see her son abused again.

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton. ”If there are no objections, I’ll take Leo now.”

With that, he went upstairs to get Leo.

Charles Prescott brought Leo out. When they reached the doorway, he saw Nathan Fawcett. Charles was taken aback for a moment, then simply nodded before leaving with Leo.

With Mia Shaw and Charles Prescott’s divorce, the matter concerning Leo was finally brought to a close.

Sylvia Warren also returned to work.

After handling his affairs in Veridia, Charles Prescott took Leo and returned to Westhaven, where his grandmother was ill.

The story of Mia Shaw abusing the child had spread widely online, and his family also had strong opinions about it, especially Mrs. Prescott...

She doted on Leo and never imagined things would turn out this way.

In the hospital room, Mrs. Prescott looked at Leo, her heart aching for him. She said to Charles Prescott, ”I never would have guessed that Mia Shaw was such a vicious woman. How could she do something like that?”

Charles Prescott didn’t say a word. Just then, Henry Underwood walked over. ”Sir, someone is here to see you.”
