Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

As they entered, Anne Sutton saw Mia Shaw beside a man who was not young, looking to be in his fifties.

Mia Shaw followed carefully behind the man, looking quite humble.

”Vic!” Caleb Summers called out.

The man heard him and turned around. Seeing Caleb Summers, he smiled. ”President Summers.”

Caleb Summers said, ”This is my boss, Nathan Fawcett.”

He was introducing Nathan Fawcett to the man.

Vic looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”A pleasure, Mr. Fawcett.”

The news of Nathan Fawcett recently taking over the Linden Group was the talk of the town; almost everyone had heard about it.

Caleb Summers looked at Vic and asked, ”I hear your company recently hired Charles Prescott?”

At the mention of Charles Prescott’s name, Vic chuckled. ”President Summers seems very interested in our company’s affairs!”

”Not at all. I was just asking. I’m a bit of a gossip,” Caleb Summers said, glancing at Mia Shaw. ”I hear Miss Shaw was the one who strongly recommended him!”

Mia Shaw’s eyes landed on Anne Sutton. She looked at Anne as she replied to Caleb, ”Charles Prescott has already left the Fawcett Group. You don’t have to push him into a corner! And we don’t do business with your company.”

Since Vic didn’t work with the Linden Group or the Fawcett Group, Mia Shaw had nothing to fear.

Caleb Summers laughed. ”What are you so nervous about? No matter what, Charles Prescott used to be the president of the Fawcett Group. We worked together. Can’t we show a little concern for him now? You’re too tense, Miss Shaw.”

Mia Shaw stood beside Vic without saying a word.

She knew she couldn’t afford to provoke them, so she kept quiet.

Vic glanced at Caleb Summers. ”If you’re free, President Summers, we should have dinner sometime.”

”Better not,” Caleb Summers replied. ”I just saw you here today and wanted to say a quick hello. We have other business to attend to, so we won’t keep you.”

With that, Caleb Summers walked away with Nathan Fawcett and Anne.

Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers. ”You know Mia Shaw’s boss?”

”I know him, but we’re not exactly on good terms.” The bigwigs in the industry sometimes attend the same events, so it’s normal to run into each other, even without direct business dealings.

Caleb Summers continued, ”He’s just the head of SV’s domestic branch. I was just making small talk. The old master already put the word out, yet he still dared to hire Charles Prescott.”

「 ... 」

Mia Shaw followed Vic, asking, ”You know Caleb Summers?”

”I met him at a conference once. We’re not close. Why? Afraid I’ll fire Charles Prescott because of what he said?”

Mia Shaw said, ”Charles Prescott offended the Linden Family. They definitely won’t be happy that you hired him.”

”It doesn’t matter,” Vic said. ”You recommended him personally, so I’ll protect him. Don’t worry. Besides, we don’t need to work with the Linden Group anyway.”

SV’s headquarters is overseas.

They don’t have to answer to the Linden Group.

Mia Shaw looked at Vic and said, ”Thank you.”

”Not going home tonight?”

”What for?” Mia Shaw said. ”There’s a new kid at home, and it’s noisy as hell.”

”Then you can keep me company tonight,” Vic said, glancing at her.

Mia Shaw said, ”All right!”

Seeing her agree so readily, Vic was a little surprised. ”Did you have a fight with Charles Prescott?”

’He’s just a bastard! Ever since we got married, not only has he not touched me... he even brought his son home.’

The thought of it made Mia feel like it was all pointless.

’I used to dream of being his wife, but now I realize nothing is as wonderful as I imagined.’

That night, Mia Shaw didn’t go home. She went straight to Vic’s place.

「 ... 」

The next morning, she brought some documents to Charles Prescott, using it as an excuse to see him.

Charles Prescott was at his desk when Mia Shaw walked in and stood before him. ”I didn’t come home last night. You didn’t even call to ask about me?”

Charles Prescott looked up at her. ”You’re not a child. If you wanted to come home, couldn’t you have done it yourself?”

Mia Shaw gritted her teeth. ”You didn’t even ask who I was with last night.”

”What do you mean?” Charles Prescott looked at her.

A smirk played on Mia Shaw’s lips. ”My husband can’t perform. Am I not allowed to find someone else on the side?”

The implication was obvious: she had cheated on him.

Charles Prescott looked at her, and his eyes darkened as he noticed the clear hickey on her neck.

Charles Prescott said, ”Mia Shaw, you’re disgusting.”

”How am I disgusting?” Mia Shaw retorted. ”I’m clean compared to you! You’ve had so many women. Aren’t you filthier? Oh, right! When Vic and I were out to dinner last night, we ran into Anne Sutton and her friends.”

”...” At the mention of Anne Sutton’s name, Charles Prescott froze.

’She used to be his fiancée. Now, her name felt like a distant memory.’

Charles Prescott said, ”Her business has nothing to do with me.”

”Nothing to do with you?” Mia Shaw laughed coldly. ”I bet you think about her day and night! ’Nothing to do with me.’ What a joke. It’s a shame she wouldn’t give you the time of day! She’s getting along just fine with Nathan Fawcett now!”

”...”

”You should be thanking me!” Mia Shaw said. ”If I hadn’t gotten you into this company, after Nathan Fawcett had that little chat with Vic yesterday, you might not even have a job right now.”

”So, you were with that old man last night?” ’Vic is over fifty!’

’He’s nearly as old as Mia’s own father!’

’I can’t believe they’re actually having an affair!’

’The worst part is, she climbs into some old man’s bed and then comes here to flaunt it in my face.’

Mia Shaw said, ”If I don’t keep that old man company, you won’t even be able to hold onto your job.”

”You’re shameless!” Charles Prescott’s face darkened.

Hearing this, Mia Shaw found it laughable. ”Have you forgotten how you used your status to play with people’s emotions? How are you any better than Vic? You’re just a little younger, that’s all.”

”...” Charles Prescott said, ”I bet you slept your way into the position you have today!”

”So what if I did? Aren’t you relying on my connections right now? Aren’t you with me? You never imagined you’d end up marrying a woman like me one day, did you?”

After speaking, she smiled at Charles Prescott. ”You’re married to me now. You belong to me! Charles Prescott, for the rest of your life, you are mine!”

’I used to respect him!’

’But he treats me like I’m invisible all day, so he can’t blame me for not showing him any respect!’

「 ... 」

After Mia Shaw left, Charles Prescott angrily smashed his mouse.

Henry Underwood walked in from outside, looked at his boss, and said, ”President Prescott.”

When Charles Prescott joined SV, Henry Underwood and Grace had followed him.

After all, they had nowhere better to go if they left Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott, sitting off to the side, saw Henry Underwood and asked, ”Where’s Grace?”

Henry Underwood said, ”Your wife had her transferred to an entry-level sales position.”

”...” Charles Prescott gritted his teeth. ’Of the two people he brought with him, Mia Shaw had already managed to get rid of one!’

Grace looked and acted a bit like Anne Sutton, which was why Charles Prescott had brought her to SV.

’He just never expected...’

’Mia Shaw couldn’t stand the sight of her, so she got rid of her.’
