Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

He knew that Anne had been angry ever since he’d last spoken ill of her, and she hadn’t visited the Linden family home since.

So, he wanted to take this opportunity to make his stance clear.

Nathan Fawcett heard his grandfather and said, ”Anne and I have already figured things out. Grandfather, I know you mean well, but it’s unnecessary. I’m an adult, and I have my own child now. I will handle my relationship with Anne on my own.”

”Fine, so I was meddling! Now, get out.” After saying his piece, the old man turned his wheelchair and left.

Butler Shepherd, who had witnessed the exchange, said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Nathan, you should leave for now. The old man is a bit displeased.”

It was mainly Nathan’s attitude just now that had disappointed him.

Nathan Fawcett watched the old man’s retreating back and said to Butler Shepherd, ”I’ll come back to see him later.”

Butler Shepherd nodded. ”Alright.”

Nathan Fawcett took Anne Sutton’s hand and walked out the door.

Anne Sutton followed him outside and said, ”He was the one who summoned me. What just happened had nothing to do with me.”

She could also tell the old man was upset with Nathan Fawcett.

’But I didn’t do anything!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I didn’t say it was your fault. I was just worried about you!”

”How did you know I was here?”

”Ian said you’d been taken away and told me to come rescue you, so I came over.”

Hearing it was Ian, Anne Sutton felt a sense of fond exasperation. ”That little one...”

’He’s certainly good at tipping people off.’

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”As long as you’re okay.”

”I’m fine,” Anne Sutton said. ”Your grandfather was actually in a pretty good mood today. I said a few things to him, and he didn’t get angry.”

’Thinking back on it, my attitude was probably even worse,’ Anne Sutton thought.

But that wasn’t her fault. After all, the old man had shown such deep animosity toward her in the past.

”He’s getting on in years,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”He’s used to having the final say in everything, so of course he’d want to meddle in our relationship.”

”Is he going to be okay?” Although she found him detestable, seeing him get angry over Nathan’s attitude made her feel he was somewhat pitiful at his advanced age. Anne Sutton said, ”He’s old. You don’t have to be so protective of me in front of him from now on. I can handle myself.”

”That’s not happening,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”I can’t stand to see you at a disadvantage. Besides, wives are so hard to find these days. I had a tough time myself.”

”...”

Looking at him, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but laugh.

”I appreciate your concern,” she said. ”My mom should be arriving soon. I’m going to see if she’s here.”

”I’ll go with you!”

The two of them first found Ian, then took their son to go greet Mrs. Sutton.

But just as Anne Sutton stepped out of the living room, she saw Mrs. Sutton with Anna Linden. Anna was personally greeting her and introducing her and her restaurant to the other guests.

To Anna Linden, Mrs. Sutton was a hidden gem. The food she made was exactly to Anna’s taste.

So she couldn’t wait to introduce Mrs. Sutton to everyone.

Anne Sutton stood in the doorway, watching her mother by Anna Linden’s side. It made her think of the past, when her mother was with Sean Sutton. She cooked at home every day, like a maid, her entire life revolving around her child and her husband...

But these days, she had her own career. She’d opened her own restaurant, then a second location, and her business was slowly taking off. She had also grown close to Anna Linden and was gradually taking on the air of a powerful businesswoman!

In the time since her divorce, she had been moving forward every day.

Seeing her mother like this, Anne Sutton felt much more at ease.

Nathan Fawcett stood beside her and said, ”What are you looking at?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Haven’t you noticed? My mom has changed so much.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Mrs. Sutton and said, ”She really has. I almost didn’t recognize her!”

From her sense of style to her overall presence, she seemed like a completely different person.

The buzz around Sean Sutton’s family had died down recently, and most people had forgotten about the whole affair.

However, Mrs. Sutton’s business, having already made a name for itself, was now doing better than ever.

Her second restaurant was already open for business, and it was doing very well.

After Anna Linden had taken Mrs. Sutton to meet her friends and the introductions were mostly done, she brought Mrs. Sutton over to where Anne was.

”Mom,” Anne Sutton said, greeting her mother.

Mrs. Sutton saw Anne and said, ”You’re already here!”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”It’s Dr. Linden’s birthday today. How could I not come?”

Mrs. Sutton gave her a doting look, her gaze falling on Ian. ”Ian.”

Ian said, ”Grandma.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Let’s go inside and sit down!”

Anna Linden said to Mrs. Sutton, ”You two go ahead and get comfortable. I need to go greet some other guests.”

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, ”I’ll go help.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Go on!”

Anna Linden never liked such crowded occasions anyway.

Things like this were naturally handled by others.

...

As guests, Anne Sutton and Mrs. Sutton didn’t have to do anything. She sat to one side, chatting with her mother, when Lana Langley walked over. Her gaze fell on Mrs. Sutton as she asked, ”Anne, is this your mother?”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Yes.”

Not knowing what Lana Langley was up to, Anne Sutton was a little on guard.

Lana Langley said, ”Your mother is very pretty!”

”Th-thank you!” Hearing a compliment from her was so rare that Anne Sutton found it incredible.

Lana Langley sat down and began making small talk with Mrs. Sutton.

Seeing her act like this, even Ian was stunned.

During dinner that evening, Lana Langley was uncharacteristically well-behaved, which Anne Sutton actually found a little unsettling.

After dinner, Nathan Fawcett drove Anne Sutton, Mrs. Sutton, and Ian home.

On the way, Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Don’t you think Lana Langley was acting weird today?”

”She certainly was,” said Nathan Fawcett. ”It was like she was a completely different person.”

”Oh, right. Ryan Linden came by the house today and asked Lana Langley to go back with him, but she refused. It seems she’s been enjoying her time at the house lately!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”That proves she’s not that stupid, then.”

...

Noah Linden had just gotten home when Ryan Linden arrived.

Seeing him, Noah said, ”What are you doing here?”

Ryan Linden said, ”Why’d you run off to Westhaven? Wasn’t your position at the Linden Group good enough for you?”

Noah Linden poured himself a glass of water. ”I went over to help take care of some matters.”

”You’re an idiot!” Ryan Linden said. ”Nathan Fawcett is just trying to push you out of the company. He wants to drive out everyone from the Linden family so he can have sole control!”

Noah Linden looked at Ryan Linden and said, ”How have you been lately? Are you all healed up? Do you want me to help you find a job?”

He knew Ryan had been unemployed ever since he was forced out.

’I could help him find a job.’

Ryan Linden scoffed at Noah’s offer. ”Me, have *you* find me a job? You should worry about yourself first! You’ve been sold down the river and you’re still helping the guy count his money!”

Noah looked at his brother, who seemed to be in a perpetually resentful state, always cursing the world. He asked, ”How are things between you and Lana lately?”
