Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”What do you expect?” Ryan Linden said. ”She’s been completely brainwashed by Nathan Fawcett. She stays at the Fawcett family’s place all day and won’t come home! I went to see her today, and she still refused to come back. That damn Nathan Fawcett... it’s like he wants me to lose my wife.”

Noah Linden looked at Ryan Linden and said, ”You were a bit too harsh on her before! You should be nicer to her next time! She’s been with you for so many years and even had a child with you. It hasn’t been easy for her! You shouldn’t always be bullying her!”

”When have I ever bullied her?” Ryan Linden refused to admit it!

He always thought it was someone else’s problem.

He said to Noah Linden, ”Don’t listen to their nonsense!”

Noah Linden said to Ryan, ”Ryan, I’m just looking out for you! What Nathan said about you isn’t necessarily wrong. If a man can’t even respect his own wife, do you think anyone else would trust him?”

”...” Ryan Linden sat to the side, saying, ”I don’t care. It’s all Nathan Fawcett’s fault! He just can’t stand to see me doing well, so he’s trying to drive a wedge between us! That bitch, Lana Langley! Has she forgotten who her husband is?! I refuse to believe she can hide out at the Fawcett family’s place forever!”

Seeing that he wouldn’t listen to reason, Noah Linden didn’t say anything more.

Ryan Linden vented for a good while before finally heading home.

He found the house cold and empty. No one was there—not his child, not his wife. Before, when he came home, Lana would always greet him with concern. Now, there was nothing.

He grew irritated!

His mood soured!

...

Anne Sutton was brushing her teeth at the mirror while Nathan Fawcett watched her. She felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze and asked, ”What are you staring at me for?”

Nathan Fawcett smiled. ”Just admiring your beauty!”

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Oh, right, there’s something I forgot to tell you.”

”What is it?”

”I ran into Mia Shaw at the hospital today.”

Nathan Fawcett stared at Anne Sutton. ”Who?”

Anne Sutton took a towel and wiped the toothpaste from the corner of her mouth. ”You don’t remember? The woman Charles Prescott brought home before... They almost got engaged.”

”What about her?”

”She married Charles Prescott.” Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”She said they’ve already registered their marriage. Isn’t that crazy?”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, ”It seems Charles Prescott got into SV through Mia Shaw’s connections.”

”I just didn’t expect Charles Prescott to get married so quickly!”

Charles Prescott used to have such high standards. Since he was the future heir of the Fawcett family, very few women could catch his eye.

Who would’ve thought he’d go and get married just like that, without a word.

After hearing what Anne Sutton said, Nathan Fawcett replied, ”I heard Grandfather put in a word. Now, not a single company in the auto industry is willing to hire Charles Prescott.”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. ”Your grandfather?”

Nathan Fawcett nodded. ”Yeah. And... Butler Shepherd said that the last time Charles Prescott left the company, it was also because Grandfather made him leave!”

”Why would your grandfather do that?” ’She hadn’t expected that the last time Master Linden called Charles Prescott away, it was for this.’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It’s probably because of what happened in the past. Even though he wasn’t around, he knew about it. Grandfather couldn’t stand the things Charles Prescott and his father did anymore.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Even though your grandfather doesn’t like me, at least he’s not so muddled when it comes to matters of right and wrong.”

Nathan Fawcett smiled. ”All done?”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”I’m done.”

”Let’s go to bed, then!”

”You waited here all this time just so we could go to bed together?”

Anne Sutton looked at this man, finding it impossible to understand him.

Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett just smiled gently.

...

Charles Prescott was washing his face at the mirror when Mia Shaw walked over, stood beside him, and placed her hand on him.

Charles Prescott glanced at her, reached out, removed her hand, and said, ”I’m tired.”

”What’s that supposed to mean?” Mia Shaw said, her anger rising. ”Charles Prescott, we’ve been married for a while now, and you refuse to touch me. Not even once. What’s the meaning of this?”

Charles Prescott said, ”I’m exhausted from work, and I have to go to Westhaven to pick up Leo today.”

”If you bring Leo back, who’s going to take care of him?” Mia Shaw said, displeased. ”I have no intention of raising your son for you! Isn’t it fine for Leo to stay at home with your grandmother? If you bring him here, we both have to work, and we’ll have to look after him too. It’ll be a total nightmare.”

”...” Charles Prescott said, ”My grandmother is getting old! She can’t take good care of Leo.”

At this, he looked at Mia Shaw. ”You were the one who wanted to marry me. Now that I want to bring Leo back, you’re not willing?”

She didn’t mind that he had Leo before.

But now that they were married, suddenly she couldn’t stand the sight of Leo! He wanted to bring Leo back, and she was refusing.

Mia Shaw said, ”I’m just worried you won’t have time to look after the child!”

”I’ll take care of him myself.”

With that, Charles Prescott came out of the bathroom.

He lay down on the bed without saying a word to Mia Shaw.

’He had only married her because he had no other choice.’

’But even if they were married, he would never touch her!’

’It was just... the thought that she had him so completely under her thumb now made him deeply uncomfortable.’

In the morning, Charles Prescott got up early and went to Westhaven to pick up Leo.

When Mia Shaw woke up, Charles Prescott was already gone. He hadn’t even said goodbye. She liked him so much and treated him so well, but she never imagined that after they got married, his attitude toward her would become even colder than before.

...

Charles Prescott arrived in Westhaven, picked up Leo, and returned straight to Veridia. He had taken a day off and needed to hurry back to work.

Now that he was married to Mia Shaw, he was living in his house in Veridia.

So naturally, now that Leo was here, he would be living here too!

...

Charles Prescott had someone prepare a room for Leo.

Mia Shaw came in after work and saw that Charles Prescott had already returned with Leo. ”You sure were quick,” she said.

Charles Prescott glanced at her. ”You’re off work?”

Mia Shaw said, ”You were gone all day.”

Her gaze fell on Leo.

Leo saw Mia Shaw and said, ”Auntie.”

Mia Shaw ignored Leo and walked right out.

She sat on the sofa, looking thoroughly unhappy.

’She had thought that after marrying Charles Prescott, they would have time alone together. Instead, she was now saddled with all this extra baggage, and she hated it.’

Charles Prescott came out and said to Mia Shaw, ”Leo was talking to you. What’s with that attitude?”

”What kind of attitude do you want from me?” Mia Shaw let out a small laugh, looking at Charles Prescott. ”He’s not my child. Am I supposed to treat him like my own flesh and blood?”

Charles Prescott looked at her, growing angry. Seeing his dark expression, Mia Shaw said, ”Fine, if you’re going to be unhappy about it, then forget it! I won’t be coming back for the next couple of days.”

With that, she walked out the door.

Charles Prescott watched her leave and took a deep breath.

’He realized that ever since leaving the Fawcett Group, his life had become a complete mess!’

’Even Mia Shaw, who had been just a poor student when she first started following him around, now dared to give him attitude!’

That evening, Nathan Fawcett took Anne Sutton and Ian out for dinner. Caleb Summers, who lived right next door to Anne, joined them.
