Myths Reawakened

At that moment, two powerful auras surged and collided in the sewer.

Megan was in disbelief. Who are you? Where’s Young Master? Why is the Death Knight here?

Who am I? Where am I? What happened? x3

The Death energy stilled, and the Darkness wind froze. Silence returned to the sewer until two knightly swords fell to the ground at the same time. The two knights hurriedly picked up their weapons.

Wayne pointed his sword at Auston and cursed gracefully, “Holy fuck, who the fuck are you?”

“Fuck, why would you be the Death Knight?” Auston asked in a trembling voice.

“You don’t know who I am?” x2

“You don’t know... Impossible. How could you not guess it when you’re so smart?” x2

“You really haven’t guessed?!” x2

“...” x2

Auston raged, so furious that his cape trembled. He had overestimated Wayne. The younger man was an idiot; only he had fooled Auston with his posturing.

Wayne also raged, so furious that steam was coming from his skull. White light shook violently in his eye sockets. He resented Auston for the posturing and resented himself for overestimating Auston’s intelligence; he had been having a battle of wits with nobody.

Right, the note wasn’t pointing out his identity. It was nothing but a random lie.

“Hahaha, who would’ve thought? Who would’ve thought that the husband of the Church of Nature’s High Reverend would turn out to be the Darkness Knight?” Wayne gnashed his teeth together. “How nice. I’ll expose you to the church and have Master kick you out of the Lando family!”

“Well, I didn’t expect the student of Nature’s High Reverend to be the Death Knight...” Auston lifted his mask, black light surging from his eyes. “I’ll kick you out of the Lando family now in case Silvia learns of the truth and has to dispose of you personally.”

“She’ll sooner dispose of you, you murderer. You almost wiped out the church’s people in Londan!”

Wayne couldn’t be more enraged. This was entirely avoidable, but he had exposed himself because of overthinking. The more he tried to look at the big picture, the more furious he became. He tightened Shadow Nightmare and made a powerful swing.

A portal emerged, and Julia marched out, followed by a thick mist that rushed into the flood channel and morphed into the undead hound, Do.

The hound and mount bared their teeth.

“Do, Julia, fuck him up!”

When Auston saw Wayne siccing his dog on him, he swung Twilight Despair, but nothing came.

Auston was furious with himself. He had exposed himself by overthinking, and even now, he needed a moment to remember that he didn’t have a mount. He waved his hand and shouted, “Megan, go!”

Megan reluctantly stepped forward, covering her face and looking away.

It was embarrassing. Was it too late to leave the family? And she was beyond shocked and curious. Never had she expected Wayne to be the Death Knight. It... wasn’t impossible, but... it was absurd!

The current head of the Lando family was the Darkness Knight, and the next head of the family was the Death Knight. There were no normal people in the family. Wasn’t the decline of the Landos predestined?

And there were millions of people in Londan, a megacity. How did the Lando family end up having two chosen knights... Was it because of the lucky silver coin of Death?

Since Megan obviously didn’t want to fight, Auston’s side was somewhat lacking in fighting spirit. By contrast, Wayne’s right-hand horse and left-hand hound were immediately barking at the enemies.

Yes, both were barking. It seemed that Do had taught Julia to bark like a dog.

“Megan?”

Auston refused to be outdone by Wayne, at least not in appearance. He immediately ordered Megan to transform into a great dragon.

Megan struggled to say something, averting her eyes. “Maybe you should reconsider, Master. It’s Young Master Wayne. And... isn’t it pretty good? You’ve found out about each other’s weaknesses. Why don’t you sit down and talk rather than fight?”

How are we going to sit down and talk? x2

I could’ve kept my secret if this guy hadn’t tricked me! x2

“Don’t bother, Megan,” Wayne raised his voice and said. “He’s the Darkness Knight, totally evil. I want to pet the cat. Go home and bring Monica over.”

“Evil? What’s evil is the silver tongue you keep twisting facts with. Do you think the Death Knight’s reputation is any better?” Auston growled.

“That’s the Death Knight in Palis. He’s a murderer, but I’m not. I’m a good guy who has never done anything bad!”

“Haha, says who?”

Do and Julia sensed that something was wrong. They stopped barking and lowered their heads to look for ants instead. The two men’s relationship seemed a little complicated. They needed time to process it.

“Julia, who is the all black guy there?” Do asked.

“Auston Lando.”

“Oh? Master’s father is the Darkness Knight?”

“I didn’t know, either. It’s enough to scare a horse to death.”

“Or a dog.”

The dog and horse chatted with their thoughts, while Wayne and Auston went through the stages of grief and reached the depression stage. Both of them had a strong will, and the strong were often easily shattered. Their glass hearts could not take the absurd failure they had met, and they launched into a verbal fight, hurling litanies of curses at each other.

They were using the most offensive vocabulary they had learned in their lives.

Megan was hit with a severe case of secondhand embarrassment. She took a few steps back and hid herself in the dark, realizing that the two scumbags wouldn’t go beyond cursing each other out when Silvia and Veronica were there to shackle them. The Dragonbloods had such a good eye for people that the moment they finally picked someone, they settled on someone chosen by a deity without fail. The hit rate had been a hundred percent so far.

Veronica picked one with one try, and Silvia picked two with two tries. Their luck should be studied.

It would’ve been perfect if they weren’t members of the Church of Nature.

In the living room, Megan served black tea before retreating to the side with a tray, standing right between the two scumbags to announce her neutral stance.

The two men transformed back and stared at each other from their seats on the sofas, their gazes alternating between vicious, dazed, and disbelief.

Auston was the first to break the silence, saying accusingly, “Why? You should’ve been smart enough to realize that you weren’t exposed. Why did you admit your secret? Why didn’t you test me more?”

I only thought I was exposed because you’re you, Wayne thought, but didn’t voice it, refusing to compliment Auston in person. He responded with another accusation. “What about you? You’ve never met me as the Darkness Knight even once... not counting that one time. You’ve hidden yourself so well. You could’ve felt things out more.”

Because you’re you! Unwilling to praise Wayne, Auston picked up his cup of black tea and took a sip, schooling his dark expression into something less dark.

Not wanting to lose, Wayne picked up his cup and finished the tea in one go.

“You can’t even drink tea quickly. You’re destined to be toyed with by me!!”

“Ha, how childish.”

At this moment, their hostility toward each other peaked. The reason was simple: the Darkness Knight or Death Knight shouldn’t be part of the Lando family. It was risky for Silvia and Veronica.

“You are the Darkness Knight, yet you hid your identity and married Master. You deserve death!”

“You are the Death Knight, yet you hid the fact and became Silvia’s student and fooled Veronica. You deserve death more.”

“I wasn’t yet the Darkness Knight then.”

“I wasn’t yet the Death Knight then.”

“...” x2

“I’ll ask first!” x2

“...” x2

“Why don’t I do the honors? Or you’re just going to go in circles.” Megan raised her hand weakly. As the neutral third party, she believed she was most qualified to ask the question. And now that she was watching them as an outsider, she found the scene immensely entertaining.

“No, you’re Auston’s lover. You’re always going to take his side.” Wayne shot her down and glared at Auston. “I’ll ask first. If you even care about the family a little bit, Auston, answer me.”

Auston scoffed as a form of agreement.

“Tell me, how did you become the Darkness Knight? Is the Goddess of Darkness blind? What did She see in you? Your black heart?”

“The goddess didn’t choose me. I chose Her.”

Wayne frowned. Why did that... sound like his story?

“It was many years ago...”
