Chapter 124: Chapter 124 — The Monkey Fist

Chapter 124 — The Monkey Fist

The next morning, Victor and Monkasa descended from the upper treehouse bridges in the wooden elevator.

Victor stood near the edge of the platform, stretching his arms as they slowly descended toward the ground.

He let out an enormous yawn.

”Ahhh...”

He rolled his shoulders and loosened his neck, preparing himself for what Monkasa had described as a light spar.

Victor almost laughed at the thought.

There was no such thing as a light spar in Lava Rock Monkey territory.

He had learned that lesson the hard way.

Monkasa glanced at him with his usual huge, toothy grin.

”You ready?”

Victor smiled.

”Absolutely.”

Victor had deliberately left Liam’s sword inside his storage ring.

Today wasn’t about testing the limits of his overall combat ability. He wanted to improve one thing.

Monkey Fist.

He needed to understand the Intermediate stage.

The elevator reached the ground.

The doors opened, and the two stepped out.

The sounds of battle immediately filled the air.

Monkeys were fighting everywhere.

Most were engaged in what looked suspiciously like actual attempts to murder each other.

Victor shook his head.

Yep. Nothing has changed.

They made their way toward the dueling platforms.

Monkasa stepped onto one side.

Victor stepped onto the other.

They stood several feet apart before bowing to each other.

Monkasa straightened first, his grin returning.

”Are you ready, Victor?”

Victor laughed.

”Let’s do this.”

Monkasa instantly dashed forward.

Victor’s expression changed.

Fast.

The pressure coming from Monkasa’s body was considerably greater than Victor remembered.

Then Victor realized why.

Rank 10.

Somehow, Monkasa had broken through while Victor was gone.

Victor hadn’t even known.

The increase in cultivation had made Monkasa noticeably faster and stronger.

He appeared directly in front of Victor.

Victor barely had time to react.

But Monkasa wasn’t the only one who had changed.

Victor disappeared.

Flash Step.

He reappeared behind Monkasa and slammed a fist into his back.

BOOM!

Monkasa’s eyes widened.

He hadn’t even seen Victor move.

A burst of pain traveled through his back, sending him flipping forward before he crashed face-first into the ground.

For several seconds, Monkasa simply lay there.

Then he slowly pushed himself up.

He turned toward Victor with disbelief written across his face.

”That was a cheap shot!”

Victor laughed.

”You never told me you upgraded your movement technique.”

”You never asked.”

Monkasa stared at him.

Victor grinned.

Then he shook his head.

He didn’t want to use Intermediate Flash Step during the fight.

His goal was to improve Monkey Fist, not embarrass Monkasa. But the speed at which he arrived in front of Victor. Force Victor to use Flashed step Without thinking.

”I won’t use the Intermediate level anymore.”

Monkasa’s eyes brightened.

”Really?”

”Yeah.”

Victor lowered himself into his stance.

”I’m here to work on Monkey Fist.”

Monkasa’s grin returned.

”Then let’s fight!”

This time, both of them held back.

Monkasa reduced the strength of his Monkey Fist slightly, while Victor kept his movement technique at the Beginner level.

Then they collided.

Victor threw a kick toward Monkasa’s head.

Monkasa raised his arm and blocked.

He stepped backward, turned his body, and threw a jab toward Victor’s face.

Victor saw it coming and blocked.

He immediately returned a jab of his own.

Monkasa tilted his head aside.

Victor’s fist passed his cheek.

Monkasa responded with a kick.

Victor moved out of its path.

They separated for barely a second before charging at each other again.

Punches.

Kicks.

Blocks.

Counters.

The battle quickly became a constant exchange.

Then Monkasa stepped backward.

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

He recognized the movement.

Monkey Fist.

Monkasa planted his feet.

Step.

Victor watched carefully.

He was studying the technique.

Spiritual Energy began flowing through Monkasa’s body.

It moved with each step.

From his legs.

Through his waist.

Into his shoulder.

And finally toward his fist.

But the energy didn’t simply gather around his hand.

It spiraled.

A violent current of Spiritual Energy twisted around Monkasa’s fist like a miniature tornado.

Victor stared.

That’s what I’m missing.

Monkasa suddenly lunged forward.

”Monkey Fist!”

His fist slammed toward Victor.

Victor raised his arms.

BOOM!

The impact pushed him backward.

But because Monkasa had deliberately held back, Victor was able to absorb most of the force.

He focused on the sensation.

The energy.

The momentum.

The spiral.

For a brief moment, something clicked.

I almost understand it.

Victor immediately attempted to replicate it.

His feet moved.

Step.

He gathered his Spiritual Energy.

His fist tightened.

But nothing happened.

There was no tornado.

No violent spiral.

No strange, static-like energy surrounding his fist.

Just Spiritual Energy.

Victor frowned.

What am I missing?

He tried again.

Step.

Still nothing.

The Monkey Fist gathered around his hand, but it felt incomplete.

Victor pushed forward and threw the punch anyway.

Monkasa blocked it.

BOOM!

Monkasa slid backward slightly.

Victor looked at him.

The excitement Victor expected to see wasn’t there.

Monkasa wasn’t impressed.

Victor understood why.

That wasn’t the Intermediate Monkey Fist.

It was simply a stronger punch.

They continued.

Again.

And again.

For hours, they fought.

No matter how many times he tried, something was missing.

Eventually, both fighters were exhausted.

Victor’s left eye had turned black.

His lip was split and bloody.

Monkasa wasn’t much better.

One of his eyes was swollen, and bruises covered his face.

The two climbed off the dueling platform.

Monkasa threw an arm around Victor’s shoulders.

Despite the vicious fight they had just endured, the brotherly camaraderie between them hadn’t changed.

Victor laughed.

”That was definitely not a light spar.”

Monkasa laughed.

”I thought it was pretty light.”

Victor looked at him.

Monkasa laughed again.

Together, they slowly made their way toward the Monkey Fist Stele.

According to Monkasa, the secret to understanding the Intermediate stage wasn’t simply practicing the technique.

The Monkey Fist Stele had something to do with it.

The stele needed to sense something inside the cultivator.

A desire.

A need.

A determination to become stronger.

But not simply for the sake of power.

There had to be something deeper.

Monkasa had learned this from the elder inside the ranking hall.

At first, he hadn’t understood it either.

But after Monk Bala defeated Victor, something inside him had changed.

He realized that he didn’t merely want strength because fighting was fun.

He wanted strength because he didn’t want to be powerless again.

He wanted strength to protect friends.

That realization had helped him understand the Intermediate Monkey Fist.

Victor stared at the ancient stele.

He needed strength because without it, someone else could always control his life.

The bracelet around his wrist was proof of that.

Everything that had happened since arriving in this world had taught him the same lesson.

Strength was freedom.

Victor slowly lowered himself to the ground.

He sat directly in front of the Monkey Fist Stele.

Monkasa looked down at him.

Victor’s eyes remained fixed on the ancient stone.

Monkasa grinned.

”Good luck, brother.”

Victor closed his eyes.

He didn’t know how long it would take.

It didn’t matter.

He would sit here until something changed.

Until he understood what the Monkey Fist was truly asking of him.

Victor remained perfectly still before the ancient stele.

And he waited.
