Chapter 114: Chapter 114 — The Last Goodbye

Chapter 114 — The Last Goodbye

Samal’s eyes immediately turned toward the direction of the signal.

The moment he sensed the protective treasure break, something inside him panicked.

What is Riker doing?

What happened to Liam?

His thoughts became a blur.

There was only one thought left in his mind.

I need to save my son.

Samal abruptly looked across the table.

A man sat on the opposite side.

He was one of the few people in the world Samal considered his equal.

In fact, Samal had never been able to defeat this man in a fight.

”I’m sorry. I have to go.”

The man looked at him in confusion.

”What?”

”I’ll be right back.”

Before the man could ask another question, Samal disappeared.

His body shot into the sky.

He flew toward the distant signal at incredible speed, his expression completely focused.

Back inside the tent, Liam slowly backed away from Riker.

Fear was evident in his eyes.

”My father will be here soon.”

Riker simply smiled.

”Oh, I really hope he is.”

Liam froze.

Riker’s smile grew darker.

”I really hope he arrives soon.”

”What do you mean?”

Riker laughed.

”Boy, the entire reason I waited to kill you was so you would break that bracelet and signal your father to come.”

Liam’s eyes widened.

He instinctively looked down at his hand.

”Wait...”

His voice became quieter.

”You knew?”

”Of course, boy.”

Riker shook his head.

”You weren’t exactly subtle about it.”

He took another step forward.

”You think that with my cultivation, I can’t see exactly what you’re doing?”

Liam froze.

His mind raced.

He had thought he was being clever.

He had thought he had found a way to save himself.

But Riker had known.

He had known the entire time.

And suddenly, Liam understood.

The bracelet hadn’t been his escape.

It had been exactly what Riker wanted.

Whatever plan this hidden organization had created, Liam had walked directly into it.

His fear slowly disappeared.

Not because he felt safe.

Because there was nothing left to fear.

Instead, disappointment filled his eyes.

He had failed.

His father had trusted him.

And now he had led his father directly into a trap.

Riker slowly walked toward him.

Riker reached out and grabbed him by the neck with one hand.

Liam’s feet lifted from the ground.

Riker stared into his eyes.

Then, with a single fluid motion, a burst of energy entered Liam’s body.

It tore through his Core.

Liam’s body went limp almost instantly.

His head fell to the side.

Riker released him.

Liam’s body dropped heavily onto the ground.

For several seconds, Riker simply stared at him.

Then he smiled.

”Finally.”

He looked toward the entrance of the tent.

”Finally.”

His smile widened.

”The Beast Gods will rule.”

The moment the words left his mouth—

Samal appeared.

He stood at the entrance.

His eyes immediately found Liam’s body.

Then they slowly moved toward Riker.

For a moment, neither man spoke.

Samal’s gaze remained fixed on Riker.

Then he understood.

”Ah.”

His voice was quiet.

”You’re a part of that organization.”

Riker smiled.

Samal looked down at his son.

A faint sadness appeared in his eyes.

”This was all my fault.”

He walked toward Liam.

”My poor boy.”

Samal knelt beside his son.

”Your father let you down.”

His hand rested against Liam’s chest.

”I wasn’t able to get here in time.”

He remained there for several seconds.

Then he slowly stood.

When he looked back toward Riker, there was no rage on his face.

Only focus.

Riker smiled.

”The plan is finished.”

He reached into his mouth and bit down on something.

”Humans will soon learn their place.”

His eyes gleamed.

”They will finally understand who the real masters of this world are.”

A faint crack sounded.

Whatever was inside his mouth shattered.

Riker’s body suddenly went still.

His soul vanished almost instantly.

He was dead.

But Samal wasn’t going to let him escape that easily.

He walked toward Riker’s corpse.

His expression remained completely calm.

Then he grabbed Riker’s face.

A massive burst of energy erupted.

The force tore through Riker’s body, destroying it completely. Pieces of Riker flew all over the place.

His attention returned to his son.

Slowly, he walked over.

He knelt beside Liam.

Then he pulled his son’s body into his arms.

For a long moment, Samal said nothing.

He simply held him.

”I’m sorry.”

His voice was barely audible.

”I wasn’t there to protect you.”

His arms tightened around Liam.

”I failed you as a father.”

For the first time in his entire life, Samal’s eyes became wet.

Then the scene changed.

The battlefield disappeared.

Victor and Lyra found themselves standing inside the crypt once again.

Samal was there.

He was carrying Liam’s body.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He approached the transparent coffin.

At its base, Samal released a small strand of his flame.

The formation beneath the coffin activated.

The transparent lid opened.

Samal stepped forward.

He gently placed Liam inside.

He adjusted his son’s head against the pillow.

Then he crossed Liam’s arms over his chest.

Samal stared at him for several seconds.

”I’ll miss you more than the stars, my son.”

He reached into his robes and removed a black ring with a silver circular line.

He placed it carefully on Liam’s chest.

Then he lowered Liam’s hands so they rested just beneath the ring.

Samal leaned forward.

He placed a gentle kiss against his son’s forehead.

Then he slowly closed the coffin.

The lid sealed shut.

Samal stood there for a moment longer.

His eyes moved toward the statue behind the coffin.

A statue carved in the image of his son.

Liam.

Samal stared at it silently.

Then he turned around.

He walked away.

The scene slowly began to fade.

Everything dissolved into darkness.

Victor’s eyes opened.

He sucked in a breath and immediately pushed himself off the floor.

Beside him, Lyra also woke.

For several moments, they simply tried to understand where they were.

Everything came rushing back.

Victor slowly looked toward Liam’s preserved body.

Then toward Lyra.

Lyra was already looking at him.

Neither of them needed to say anything.

Their eyes eventually moved toward Liam.

Something had changed.

There was pity in both of their expressions.

And now they understood why his body had been preserved here.

Victor turned toward the statue.

He stared at the image of Liam for several seconds.

He finally understood a little more about Samal.

He had seen the man as a warrior.

A leader.

Someone who had carried an enormous burden during the Beast War.

But now Victor had seen him as a father.

A father who had loved his son.

A father who had failed to save him.

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

Yet the visions only created more questions.

Why could these statues show the past?

What was so special about them?

Why was Victor able to experience these memories?

And what exactly had happened during the ancient Beast War?

His thoughts returned to Riker.

The hidden organization.

The Beast Gods.

The army.

The mysterious allies Samal had been traveling to meet.

And whatever plan had been set into motion thousands of years ago.

There were too many unanswered questions.

Lyra didn’t understand everything either.

But she had seen the grief of a father who had lost his son.

For several moments, neither Victor nor Lyra spoke.

They simply stood there in silence.

The ancient crypt remained completely still around them.

And between them, the Soul Chain quietly connected their hands.

After everything they had just witnessed, one thing was becoming increasingly clear.

The deeper they went into Samal’s past, the more questions they found.
