Chapter 120: Chapter 120 — A New Understanding

Chapter 120 — A New Understanding

The next day, Victor woke up after several hours of sleep.

The fire had burned down considerably, leaving only a few glowing embers.

He slowly sat up and looked toward Lyra.

She was already awake, sitting a short distance away with her eyes closed as she cultivated.

Victor reached toward his waist and drew Liam’s sword.

The blade remained in its transformed state.

Completely black with a white hilt.

Ye were no flames surrounding it.

Victor had already figured out that the Black Phoenix Flames only appeared when he actively activated the weapon.

He stared at the sword for a moment.

He had barely been able to use it during the battle with the Spider Mother.

His Soul Power wasn’t strong enough to maintain the connection for very long.

Ten seconds.

Maybe fifteen at most.

After that, the flames would disappear, and the sword would return to its normal state.

Victor still hadn’t had much of an opportunity to practice with it.

But he had already seen what it could do.

When activated, the sword could cut through the Spider Mother’s transformed body.

That alone made it worth keeping.

I’ll figure you out eventually.

Victor returned the sword to its sheath.

Then he looked toward Lyra.

Something caught his attention.

Victor lifted his hand.

He moved it slightly.

Nothing happened.

The Soul Chain was gone.

Victor blinked.

He moved his hand again, almost expecting the purple-and-black chain to appear.

Nothing.

He looked toward Lyra.

The connection was still there.

He could feel it.

But the physical chain itself had disappeared.

So we can separate now?

Victor wasn’t completely sure.

Maybe the chain had only been a temporary effect.

Maybe the Soul Bond had changed.

Either way, he would need to learn more about the Twin Flame Flower before he could understand exactly what had happened.

The flower was simply too far beyond his current knowledge.

Victor shifted his attention toward Lyra.

He wondered if she had noticed.

She had spent weeks being physically limited by the chain.

She was probably happy that it was finally gone.

Victor continued observing her cultivation.

Something felt strange.

He focused more carefully.

There was something inside Lyra that seemed to be holding her back.

Victor couldn’t quite identify it.

It felt like a blockage.

Something connected to her soul.

Or perhaps her bloodline.

He couldn’t tell.

He concentrated for another moment.

Lyra suddenly opened her eyes.

Victor immediately looked away.

She stared at him.

There was a faintly annoyed expression on her face.

But surprisingly, she didn’t yell.

Victor glanced back.

”I think it’s time we start heading back.”

Lyra nodded.

”Okay.”

They both stood.

Victor gathered the remaining supplies around their campsite and stored everything inside his ring.

Then the two began walking through the forest.

Several hours passed.

Nothing particularly interesting happened.

Victor was finally able to use Flash Step comfortably again.

His movements had become much smoother.

His injuries were also continuing to heal.

Every day, he felt stronger.

At this rate, I’ll probably be back to normal in a few days.

His recovery had been surprisingly fast.

It almost seemed like his body’s ability to heal had improved.

Victor wasn’t sure why.

He didn’t have time to think about it too much.

Throughout their journey, Victor kept one hand extended.

His Black Flame danced above his palm.

He repeatedly expanded it.

Then shrank it.

Expanded.

Shrank.

Again and again.

At the same time, he practiced Flash Step.

Lyra noticed several times.

She didn’t ask what he was doing.

She simply watched before eventually returning her attention to the path ahead.

After roughly a day of traveling, they finally stopped to make camp.

Victor had found a suitable Cavalier during their journey.

He had been looking forward to cooking it ever since.

Soon, the meat was prepared, seasoned, and placed over the fire.

Victor and Lyra sat several feet apart while they waited.

The Soul Chain was gone now.

But neither of them seemed to realize how accustomed they had become to sitting close together.

Lyra could have moved farther away.

She didn’t.

She simply sat where she was.

Victor closed his eyes.

He focused on his understanding of Flash Step.

For days, he had felt like he was standing on the edge of something.

One final piece was missing.

Then suddenly—

Something clicked.

Victor’s understanding deepened.

The technique that had once felt restrictive suddenly became clear.

His Spiritual Energy flowed differently through his body.

His movements.

His timing.

His control.

Everything suddenly made sense.

Intermediate.

He had finally reached the Intermediate level of Flash Step.

Victor’s eyes opened.

He smiled.

He spent the next several minutes consolidating his new understanding.

He had already noticed the difference while traveling.

His speed had increased dramatically.

Even Lyra had struggled to keep up with him at times.

He had actually needed to slow himself down so he wouldn’t leave her behind.

This is incredible.

At his current level, anyone below the Beast Soldier realm would have an extremely difficult time catching him.

Victor continued consolidating his technique.

Across from him, Lyra was doing the same with her cultivation.

She had finally recovered the energy she had lost during the battle.

Her Core had returned to the peak of Rank 10.

Peak Tempered Beast.

But something else had changed.

Lyra stared inwardly at her Core.

For thousands of years, her clan had been trapped at this level.

They had tried countless methods.

None had worked.

Something had always prevented them from reaching the Beast Soldier realm.

A curse.

A restriction attached to the Shadow Fox Clan.

But now...

Lyra could feel something different.

The restriction was weakening.

Only slightly.

So slightly that she almost questioned whether she was imagining it.

But it was there.

The curse that had remained within her clan for thousands of years was slowly degrading.

Lyra’s eyes narrowed.

Why?

She didn’t know.

And she wasn’t going to assume anything yet.

The change was far too small.

But if it continued at the same rate...

Perhaps one day the restriction would disappear completely.

Perhaps the path beyond Peak Tempered Beast wasn’t impossible after all.

Lyra closed her eyes again and continued cultivating.

The two sat quietly beside the fire.

Neither spoke.

Then suddenly—

Victor jumped to his feet.

”Finally!”

Lyra’s eyes snapped open.

Victor clenched his fist with an enormous grin.

”I’ve finally accomplished the Intermediate level in the Flash Step technique!”

Lyra stared at him for a moment.

Then she understood.

That was the movement technique he had been using throughout their travels.

Victor looked incredibly happy.

He walked toward the fire and immediately grabbed two pieces of freshly cooked meat.

He carried one over to Lyra.

”Here.”

Lyra accepted it without complaint.

At this point, Victor bringing her food had almost become routine.

She didn’t even think about it anymore.

Honestly, if he had walked over with only one piece of meat, she probably would have wondered why he hadn’t brought her any.

They quietly ate together beside the fire.

For the first time in a while, neither of them had to worry about fighting.

Neither had to worry about escaping.

Neither had to worry about dying.

For a little while, they simply sat beside the fire and enjoyed their meal.

And for the moment, that was enough.
