High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1542: Chapter 286 Beneath Kela Mountain

The sound of the rushing wind echoed in his ears, and Zheng Qing could hear the flapping of robe corners; he vaguely guessed what the old man was doing.

A moment later, the wind gradually subsided.

”This is a farewell gift...”

The voice of Elder Atar faded into the distance. Zheng Qing slowly opened his eyes, and all he saw was lush greenery. They had already left that magnificent golden hall and found themselves in a strange land.

The sky was late, and the forest was dark.

Furry Bean rushed out of the darkness, eagerly wagging its tail at the young cost student. The brief meeting had allowed the dog to familiarize itself again with the new aura of the warlock.

Zheng Qing scratched its head while keeping his Charm Gun firmly pointed at Nikita.

”You really don’t need to be so cautious,” the female demon shrugged helplessly, pointing at the Jade Talisman hanging on herself, ”All my magic power and demon energy are sealed by this talisman... If your finger accidentally trembles, wouldn’t my death be very unjust?”

”Your death wouldn’t be unjust at all,” Zheng Qing first retorted the female demon’s words, then shook the muzzle of the gun, ”Be honest. My finger is very steady... Exactly because you’re sealed, I need to be extra careful.”

Merlin only knows what cunning tricks this female demon might have up her sleeve.

While speaking, the corner of Zheng Qing’s eye was always sizing up the surrounding environment—at this moment, the five hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team, along with two female demons and one dog, were standing at the edge of a lush forest. Below them was a forked path, with a wooden sign at the entrance.

Three wooden arrows hung under the sign. One arrow pointed to a vacant white spot with the label ’Enchanted Forest · Zu Ge’; another arrow pointed behind the wizards, labeled ’Wusa City’ with a cat head drawn in white chalk.

The last arrow pointed deep into the forest, with the words ’Kela Mountain · Engla’s Old Mansion’ written on it.

Zheng Qing followed the last arrow’s direction, his face showing some tension and unease. Kela Mountain should be the mountain that Elder Atar mentioned they needed to climb, and Engla’s Old Mansion was located at the mountain’s entrance; to get up the mountain, they must pass through that mansion.

Zheng Qing remembered Elder Atar said there was a Black Wizard in the mansion.

”Oh, damn it,” Xin Fat Man groaned softly, scratching his hair forcefully, ”Couldn’t he have sent us here tomorrow morning? Staying in a strange forest at night, what if we encounter an ancient ghost!”

”Kill it or catch it and put it in a bottle. The price of a wild ghost is not cheap on the island, very profitable,” Zhang Ji Xin replied, glancing sideways at the fat man, ”It’s just a ghost, is it scarier than a demon?”

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but laugh, tightening his grip on the Charm Gun.

The red-faced male wizard’s words were ostensibly responding to Xin Fat Man’s complaint but effectively dispelled the unease in everyone’s hearts. Looking at his companions, Zheng Qing suddenly realized that as a wizard, theoretically, he shouldn’t fear ghosts, spirits, or any other dangerous beasts.

After all, his gun was aimed at a bona fide female demon right now, and those two muscled guys were drooling and looking around, hoping a big tiger with white stripes would jump out from the bushes to provide everyone with a hearty dinner.

”Demons are afraid of ghosts too,” Zhuzhu murmured softly, tugging at Nikita’s clothes.

Zheng Qing’s gaze fixed on the little female demon, suddenly realizing something.

He turned to Nikita, ”Where are your subordinates? Those Ancient Leather Giants, Shatake bird flock, and Ghouls... Can you reach them?”

”How would I know,” the female demon tugged at the corner of her mouth, ”But I guess, the old man from the temple probably doesn’t have enough mana to relocate an entire army here.”

”I hope they don’t destroy Wusa City,” Zheng Qing prayed for a second for the small city without much confidence. As a Black Cat, he liked that Cat City and didn’t want to bring disaster to it because of his actions.

”Since Elder Atar sent us here, he surely has a way to deal with those demons and ghosts,” Xiao Xiao reassured Zheng Qing and adjusted his glasses, ”Now, we need to consider the issue of climbing the mountain... And whether we should enter the mountain now.”

Breaking into a Black Wizard’s mansion at night doesn’t sound like a smart choice.

But given that Elder Atar chose to teleport them here at this time, there must be some deeper purpose. Zheng Qing looked up at the dim sky, felt the gaze of his companions, and finally made up his mind.

”Let’s go,” he said with confidence, shaking his Charm Gun, ”I feel ready for another shot anytime.”

”I like this reasonable approach,” Zhang Ji Xin rubbed his hands, chuckling.

Jiang Yu, as soon as Zheng Qing spoke, opened the Law book in his hand and quietly recited a spell: ”Biyue Feiwei, this day is not trivial.”

A group of slender vine-like plants lined up neatly, jumping out of the Witch’s Law book, hopping towards the depths of the forest.

Golden sunlight sprouted from their mushroom heads, drifting like bubbles into the air, then bursting with a bang, scattering sunlight all over the ground, dispelling the dense night.

The forest, path, and wooden sign were coated with a layer of halo, pulling this small area from the clutches of night back to twilight.

”The feeling of having light is so good... I wonder if after we return to school, there will be a chance to visit the Black Prison,” Xin Fat Man said loudly, walking behind Nikita, ”It’s said to be a prison always shrouded in darkness, with guards that eat every trace of light there. The prisoners in the Black Prison seem to have to rely on touch to figure out if they’re at a dining table or a toilet...”

”I think a normal person could make the right judgment just by using their nose,” the female demon casually glanced at the fat man, ”Of course, there could be someone whose excess fat blocks their nasal passage.”

The blue face of the fat man looked a bit gray under the dim light.

To prevent him from being further reprimanded by the sharp-tongued female demon, Zheng Qing quickly changed the topic, ”Fat Man, did you and the Elders come down this path?”

Xin Fat Man opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something harsh to the female demon, but ultimately chose to give up, grumbling in frustration, ”Yes.”

”Tell us about that mansion.”

”There’s not much to say... just a gloomy house. When we came out of the yard, we didn’t see the Black Wizard that Elder Atar mentioned... If a Black Wizard did live there, we couldn’t have left so easily, right?”

”...Perhaps that’s exactly why Elder Atar sent us over at night,” Xiao Xiao’s voice came from behind Zheng Qing, not loud but clear enough, ”Many areas sealed by magic only reveal their true face under the moon or in the night.”
