High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1525: Chapter 269: Jiang Yu’s Story

The young hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team stood at the edge of a ’clearing’ in the Maze Forest, staring at the flat ’clean’ land in silence for a long time.

Although there was a certain distance between Wusa City and the Maze Forest, it was not enough to hide the brilliant light, as dazzling as the rising sun, that appeared last night.

The enormous, startling, and distinct magic fluctuation from the Dreamland and the sensitive direction gave the young hunters, who were like headless flies after losing their captain, an immediate target—even if Zheng Qing was not there, they would definitely find enough clues there.

This conclusion was drawn by Xiao Xiao through divination using a crystal ball and turtle shell.

Thus, the next day, before dawn, while Elder Atar was still asleep after a hangover, the young hunters packed their gear and set out for the Maze Forest.

Their target being clear, they moved quickly and reached the edge of the Maze Forest by noon.

This time, they did not encounter the lurking brown figures in the forest, nor any hindrance or interception—Xiao Xiao even gave up collecting the new mushrooms they encountered—so they quickly reached an area close to the center of the forest.

Then the young hunters stopped.

It wasn’t because they discovered Zheng Qing’s traces, nor did the forest’s owners suddenly appear to block their path—in fact, everyone doubted whether there was still any living creature in this forest because along the way, they hardly saw a living bug—you see, they stopped because they saw the destruction caused by Zheng Qing’s ’unleashed’ power.

Almost a quarter of the forest disappeared.

Leaving only a world intertwined with charred blackness and deathly silence.

They vaguely guessed the reason for the quietness of this forest.

Their sight could pass through the entire forest without any obstruction, seeing the massive blue-gray mountains outside the Maze Forest. The edge of the destruction was exceptionally neat, and Xiao Xiao could even see not far away there was a tree, with half of it disappearing into the air, the other half still lush and verdant, while the missing section was charred black.

Jiang Yu squatted down, reached out her finger, and pinched a cluster of black ash.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

Feeling the dryness from her fingertips, her face became even paler. Everything before her was so familiar. Not long ago, in the Silent Forest, she had seen such a scene.

At that time, a small world and a warlock disappeared simultaneously with this scene.

The witch suddenly stood up, looking around, feeling a bit dizzy.

”Is anyone here?” she shouted hoarsely into the empty, quiet forest.

”Cat?” she changed the word, but still, no one answered.

”Sir?” she changed to another word, yet the forest remained silent. Only a small breeze passed through the treetops, rustling a few leaves and lifting a wisp of ash from the charred ground.

The companions looked at her bewilderedly.

”Have you seen such a scene?” Xiao Xiao keenly sensed the witch’s anomaly, and his expression gradually became serious: ”Or do you think what happened here is related to the captain? That gentleman of the captain?”

Jiang Yu was stunned for a few seconds before realizing that the others did not know what happened in the Silent Forest.

When Zheng Qing exploded last time, the other hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team were at the lakeside of Lin Zhong Lake, watching the conflict between classmate Nicholas and Alpha Academy—for most of the students, Nicholas’s act of removing the werewolf bloodline affected them more significantly.

And those who had seen such a scene of destruction, besides Vice Principal Ruoyu and his wizards, were only Jiang Yu, Korma, and a Yellow Flowered Cat.

She was silent for a moment, unsure if she should tell the others about this incident.

Xiao Xiao made the choice for her: ”If it’s inconvenient to say, you only need to nod or shake your head to confirm my questions... However, without enough clues, I can’t perform a more precise divination.”

Jiang Yu closed her eyes, took a light breath, and bravely straightened the cat ears in her hair.

The other three watched her intently.

The witch opened her eyes: ”I can tell you what I know... I don’t know what he told you, but I believe if he didn’t say, he must have his reasons.”

No one doubted this.

Jiang Yu was silent for a long time again. This time, she was considering where to start—from the deal she made with Nikita, or the small world that Sister Korma discovered, or perhaps a bit earlier, beginning with her relationship with a black cat?

Soon, she confirmed that everything revolved around that ’black cat.’

”You should all know that he can turn into a black cat, right?” Jiang Yu’s gaze swept across the faces of several warlocks, seeing them nod before calming herself and continuing to explain: ”That black cat can grow larger or smaller...”

Thus, the witch began with the black cat, detailing her agreement with Korma and Elena, the magic circle in the small world, the two Outer Gods descending through that magic circle, the battle of the giant black cat with Satoguya, and most importantly—how Zheng Qing used self-destruction to destroy that small world and the projections of the two Outer Gods.

At that time, Jiang Yu, outside the small world, had seen a scene identical to the charred world before their eyes.

This could be testified by Vice Principal Ruoyu of the school and Great Wizard Colmar from North Beta Town.

”Wait, it’s a bit confusing.” Xin Fatty raised his blue hand, unable to hide his shock and a hint of confusion on his face: ”Do you mean the captain ’once’ ’already’ self-destructed? ’Boom’ like that? Blown to pieces?”

He enunciated each word clearly, seemingly worried about ambiguity, using several descriptions deliberately.

The witch nodded silently.

”And then he’s still alive?” The Blue Fatty was a bit unsettled: ”Alive like an ordinary wizard? Are you sure there’s no important content missing in between?”

Of course, parts were missing.

Jiang Yu glanced at the fatty, not mentioning the small store named San You Bookstore, neither bringing up the Yellow Flowered Cat, nor revealing the contract she signed with Zheng Qing to everyone.

”To be precise, I’m not clear on exactly what happened,” the witch paused for a moment: ”It could be time reversal, causal inversion, or other more magnificent magic... In any case, I know his return is related to that gentleman.”

Xiao Xiao did not dwell on how Zheng Qing was reborn, aware that for powerful wizards, resurrection was not impossible.

He just noticed another name.
