High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1511: Chapter 255: A Small Goal

Similar to the desolate plains in front of the black iron gate, this new black meadow is also quiet and lonely.

There isn’t a trace of vitality.

Moreover, in this meadow, the Talismans are consumed at a fast rate. In just about ten minutes, the Cloud Climbing Charm and the Armor Horse Charm that were originally able to burn for half an hour have already turned to ash.

Zheng Qing lands amidst the grassland.

The black weeds here are lush and soft in texture; stepping on them feels like stepping onto a thick carpet, involuntarily bringing a sense of pleasure to one’s heart.

If it weren’t for their annoying color.

The young cost student, clutching the Charm Gun, looks around warily. While quickening his pace, he mutters to himself — previously, the Yellow-clothed Man had told him that on this new journey, he would see all sorts of things that he could take at will, and whatever he took could be brought back to the real world.

But at the moment, aside from these dark weeds, not even a cockroach is in sight – is the Yellow-clothed Man expecting him to take a bunch of weeds back?

After walking towards the Bronze Gate for about half an hour and feeling the distance has slightly closed in, Zheng Qing took out a blanket from the Grey Cloth Bag, intending to rest his feet.

With jerky and Naan prepared in the bag, as well as various flavors of fruit preserves, Zheng Qing takes out the Law book and silently casts ’Water to Solve Your Worries,’ then neatly concludes a picnic meal.

After the meal, he planned to set off immediately, but looking at the crooked black weeds outside the blanket, a thought suddenly struck him.

During his initial hurry to travel, he hadn’t noticed, thinking these weeds were the same as the ones near the black iron gate. But looking closely now, these new black weeds have thicker leaves and a bit more vitality.

Zheng Qing stares at the black grass outside the blanket and reaches into the Grey Cloth Bag to pull out a pair of silkworm skin gloves, but after putting them halfway on, shakes his head, removes them, and exchanges them for a pair of Deer-skin Gloves.

Dragon-skin Gloves are too thick, silkworm skin gloves are too thin, but Deer-skin Gloves are just the right thickness.

Next, he flips open the weeds, taking a closer look at the black grass.

This time, he discovers more differences - in addition to thicker leaves, there is a very fine line on the stem, extending from the back of the leaf tip all the way down to the root, disappearing into the soil. Some of these fine lines are gold, some white, with a few being red or purple.

Zheng Qing exhales, sets up various anti-curse protections for himself, then directly grabs a black weed with a gold line on its stem and pulls hard.

The soil is loose and not hard to pull.

But when the weed is uprooted, the Young Wizard can’t help but gasp.

This gasp was not because of exhaustion, but because of shock.

For beneath the soil and wrapped in the dense roots of the black grass, there is a golden bean – right at the end of the gold line – genuine and weighty gold beans in hand!

”Wow!”

Zheng Qing takes a sniff, stands up, and surveys his surroundings. Wherever he looks, the dark weeds stretch on endlessly, and there is no end in sight. Assuming every weed conceals a gold bean, Zheng Qing suddenly feels he’s got a new goal.

”This feels like making a fortune... Pull up more weeds, and I can even set up my own laboratory,” the Young Wizard says to himself, without further hesitation, he gets back down on the blanket and starts to pull at the weeds around it vigorously.

Advancing to a high-level Wizard requires not only a solid theoretical foundation but also the completion of various complex magic experiments. And every magic experiment, from raw materials, reagents, samples, packaging and transportation, to the purchase, installation, and maintenance of equipment, as well as laboratory refurbishment, external collaboration, and so on, costing a veritable stream of money – and if pioneering experiments are to be conducted, besides the enormous cost of failure, a series of legal supports and Alliance approvals are needed too.

It can be said that every high-level wizard is essentially forged from an equivalent amount of gold.

In this regard, the school could provide little help. This is why many graduates of the First University would dive headlong into the vast New World, where, amidst the wilderness rife with opportunities, young wizards could quickly accomplish their initial accumulation of wealth.

Soon, Zheng Qing had harvested all the black grass around the blanket.

He had also figured out the meanings represented by the different thin lines.

White lines on the grass stems indicated a varying number of silver dimes at the root; yellow lines meant gold beans; and beneath the red, purple, green, and other colored lines, hid crystal-clear gemstones.

Zheng Qing felt his jaw almost couldn’t hold back his drool.

”I’m rich, I’m rich~”

”Silver dimes and gold beans, rattling as they fall into my cloth bag~”

”A Cat’s Eye Stone in my left hand, an emerald in my right~”

”I’m going to build two labs~”

”And set up a lovely cat house~”

The young wizard hummed an indistinct tune, bent over, and plucked away at the grass incessantly, clearing a large area around the blanket, piling the sparkling gold and transparent gemstones into a small hill on the blanket.

And this was nothing but a drop in the ocean compared to the vast black prairie.

He had reason to believe that from a bird’s-eye view, the area he had cleared would not even be the size of a needlepoint.

’Take as much as you can’

The words of the Yellow-clothed Man suddenly resurfaced in Zheng Qing’s mind, granting him a new understanding of the phrase. It’s impossible to pluck all the grass in this world clean; one must learn to stop when it’s enough.

With this realization, Zheng Qing began stuffing the sorted gemstones and gold into the Grey Cloth Bag.

The capacity of his Grey Cloth Bag wasn’t large, less than five cubic feet, typically holding only five boxes, mainly for various textbooks, tools, and materials. This time, venturing into the Dreamland, he had also prepared some outdoor supplies and food.

Now, for the sake of the gemstones and gold, Zheng Qing reorganized his Grey Cloth Bag, casting out all items of little use including bottles and jars, wooden boxes, and even some textbooks that could be repurchased.

Food could be bundled up and carried on his back.

Talisman papers that could be tucked into his chest, he stuffed as many as he could.

By every possible means, he filled the Grey Cloth Bag to the brim, Zheng Qing finally got rid of that small, shiny ’mountain’ on the blanket.

”That should do it.”

The warlock, carrying a bundle of food on his back, with the Grey Cloth Bag hanging at his waist and a small leather pouch filled with gemstones in each hand, stood in the wild field, bidding farewell to the overturned empty boxes, scattered books, and broken Wide Mouth Bottles on the blanket, before he embarked once again toward the Bronze Gate.

The silver dimes and gold beans scattered on the ground gleamed enticingly under the grey-white sky, but Zheng Qing forced himself to ignore the charming luster.

He wasn’t sure if it was an illusion.

He felt that the distant, towering Bronze Gate seemed to have shrunk just a little from before.
