High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 665: Chapter 13 Jiang Yu’s Plan_1

Boys growing up in modern society, many of them have once held this ’heroic dream’ of wandering around carrying guns, occasionally stepping in to uphold justice.

Like the railroad guerrilla squad riding on plump date-red horses, climbing onto speeding trains barehanded; or an enemy behind-the-lines demolition squad inconspicuously infiltrating watchtowers with their old-fashioned explosive boxes; or the western cowboy, with a Winchester repeating rifle on his shoulder, a Colt revolver at his waist, driving hundreds, maybe thousands of fat cows, and fighting three hundred rounds with feather-hatted Indians in the wilderness, and so forth. Boys have always dreamed of such heroic feats, yearning for the day when they too might become heroes.

Zheng Qing was no exception.

Originally, he thought that once he stepped into the world of wizards, this dream would gradually fade away with the advent of magical reality. He had no idea that happiness would come so suddenly. Two months after he entered university, he got his gun.

Although it wasn’t a firearm but merely a magic gun. However, this didn’t affect the growing sense of a dream come true, boiling up from the bottom of Zheng Qing’s heart whenever he tucked the gun at his waist.

”This truly is a magical world.” The young scholarship student stroked his revolver, sighing lightly.

”What did you say?” Dr. Du Zemu seemed not to have heard what he had just said clearly.

”I mean, do we need to apply or submit any documents to use this Charm Gun?” Zheng Qing quickly revised the question, ”Like any qualifications...gun license or something?”

”Do you need a ’book license’ to use Law books?” Dr. Du Zemu mumbled gruffly in response, ”Theoretically speaking, Law Books are more lethal than your Charm Gun...Social stability is maintained not by restrictive laws, but by the reverence each wizard has for the law.”

The doctor made noncommittal remarks as he was adeptly using tools like suspended filigree needles to examine the elves, and occasionally directed the feather pen floating in mid-air to do some recording.

”I have an earnest respect for laws.” The young scholarship student immediately made his stance clear.

The witch, who was standing by the window playing with a caged canary upon hearing this, couldn’t help but chuckle.

”A wizard should not fear the law, but the unknown.” Jiang Yu yawned and looked up at the darkening sky outside the window, cheerfully adding, ”Only the unknown is worthy of awe.”

”That’s another matter.” The young scholarship student muttered, chewing over the term ’unknown’. He suddenly realized, and his gaze involuntarily fell upon the Kun Bag hanging from the witch’s wrist.

Then he furrowed his brows, his thoughts gradually shifting away from the gift he had just received. He was debating if should discuss the matter of the small potion bottle with Jiang Yu.

Although it seemed she was reluctant to let him in on this, since he had conjectured it, he felt it was his duty to say something, if an opportunity arose.

Of course, this wasn’t something appropriate to say in front of Dr. Du Zemu.

In this way, with a belly full of words, Zheng Qing managed to wait till Dr. Du Zemu finished his examinations on the little elves. Only when the two young witches had left the ’Institute of Abnormal Life Research’, could Zheng Qing finally start the conversation.

”Um, thank you for your gift.” He thanked Jiang Yu sincerely for her gift.

”Don’t be so polite... you’ve thanked me five times already.” The witch had an ironic smile on her face, ”If you really want to thank me, give me a few good amulets.”

”Absolutely!” Zheng Qing nodded emphatically but soon pointed out, ”But my skills are limited, the talismans I make can’t compare to the gun you gave me...”

With these words, he patted his grey cloth bag. The box containing the Charm Gun had been safely placed deep inside the bag alongwith the small zitan box filled with jade coins.

Jiang Yu shook her head with a laugh, staying silent.

For a while, the two sank into an awkward silence.

Watching the alleyway growing shorter, about to reach the end and lead to the Pedestrian Street, Zheng Qing finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. He halted and reached out to stop the witch at his side.

Jiang Yu stopped in her tracks, tilted her head, and looked at the young wizard in surprise.

After taking a deep breath, Zheng Qing asked directly, ”Are you planning to practice transfiguration?”

The witch paused, instinctively reaching for the Kun Bag on her wrist, and hesitated for a moment before asking back, ”Why would you say that?”

She neither denied nor confirmed.

A notch higher went Zheng Qing’s internal certainty.

”I guessed so.” He didn’t hold back and quickly explained his reasoning to the witch, ”You know, I used to suffer from headaches. After starting school, Old Yao took me to the school hospital for an examination, and after consultations with other professors, they finally determined that my headaches were due to a hyperactive paracausal field, causing bodily stress reaction due to informational disruption... Ahem, this concept is a bit twisted.”

”In short, the treatment plan determined by the professors was ’transfiguration’.”

”By transforming and then reducing informational disruption, this involves a certain obscure conjecture - any catastrophe, once it cannot trace the target organism, its scale will continually collapse until it is annulled.”

Having said so much in one breath made the young scholar’s throat dry. Fortunately, it was early winter and the weather was quite chilly in the evening, so he didn’t feel thirsty.

Jiang Yu, arms crossed, was quietly staring at Zheng Qing. The direct gaze made the young wizard feel uncomfortable all over and he couldn’t help but laugh.

”Actually, you don’t have to explain everything.” The witch tilted her head, ran her fingers through her hair, lightly chuckling, ”Didn’t Professor Yao and others ask you to keep this matter confidential?”

Zheng Qing scratched his head and grinned, ”Well, I haven’t signed a confidentiality agreement... I guess he’d allow me to tell my friends.”

The witch suppressed her smile, and extended her hand in front of the wizard.

”Hand it over.”

”What?” Zheng Qing was a bit taken aback.

”The notes!” The witch raised her eyebrows, ”You’ve said so much, aren’t you suggesting that you have a lot of experience in transfiguration, and can teach me?”

”Oh, sure, of course.” Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly, quickly taking out his transfiguration notes from his grey cloth bag. All this information was recorded during Professor Yi’s private lectures every Tuesday evening.

But before he could hand the notes over to Jiang Yu, he hesitated.

”If you don’t mind,” He chose his words cautiously, asking in a tentative tone, ”Could you tell me what you are planning to do with transfiguration?... Actually, according to our curriculum, we will be learning these courses in our senior year.”

”Catching the murderer.” Jiang Yu snatched the notes from Zheng Qing’s hands, shoved them into her bag, slightly raised her chin, and resolutely said, ”Since the school isn’t seriously taking up tracking the killer, I have to find a way to serve justice for Xiao Bai by myself!”
