My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Tang Shuang said, ”Didn’t you say you wanted me to be the general manager of the Celestial Phoenix Hotel?”

Mu Lin nodded. ”I did. What does that have to do with what happened today?”

Tang Shuang wiped away her tears. ”But I haven’t officially told anyone! So how did anyone find out?”

Mu Lin’s eyes narrowed. Tang Shuang had hit on the crucial point.

’What should I do then?’ Mu Lin quickly mulled it over.

”This morning, I hadn’t even done anything when my manager called. He clearly already knew about it!”

”He warned me that if I resigned, he’d make me regret it!”

’How tyrannical,’ Mu Lin thought. ’Does his family know he acts like this?’

”Why? Threats always have a motive. Do you owe him money?”

”No, he pursued me before, but I rejected him.”

”Ha? The guy’s so petty. As the old saying goes, even if the business deal fails, the goodwill remains,” Mu Lin said, clicking his tongue.

”That’s what everyone says about him in private...” Tang Shuang lowered her head. ”But no one dares to say it to his face.”

”I feel the same way. I don’t have the slightest interest in him!”

”I think my best friend sold me out,” Tang Shuang said, her eyes narrowing as she slowly recalled. ”I only told her.”

Mu Lin nodded. ”Perhaps. We can ask around later. By the way, do you go to dance halls?”

Tang Shuang shook her head repeatedly. ”Why would I go to a place like that? My brother says only bad girls go there!”

’But a guy like Zhong Haoyu wouldn’t be interested in ’bad girls’,’ Mu Lin thought.

”Then how did Zhong Haoyu end up targeting you? As a dance hall owner, shouldn’t he only know about those kinds of girls?”

Tang Shuang fell silent. ”I don’t know.”

Mu Lin rummaged through his pockets. Zhong Haoyu had given him a business card before he left.

He immediately dialed the number.

”Who is it?” Zhong Haoyu was in a foul mood, terrified by the miserable state of the Hong Family, and his tone was harsh.

”It’s Mu Lin,” Mu Lin’s voice was calm, but it instantly sent Zhong Haoyu into a full-body tremble.

”M-Mr. Mu! I’m sorry for shouting at you,” Zhong Haoyu cried out, trembling.

Mu Lin wasn’t particularly offended:

”How did you find out about Tang Shuang, and why were you willing to go so far as to break her leg?”

Zhong Haoyu thought, ’Mr. Mu is here to call me to account for another victim.’ He wanted to slap himself.

”Mr. Mu, I won’t do it again! I’ll never dare to do something like this again! Please, spare me! I’ll go apologize right now!”

Mu Lin sighed. ’Has he been scared witless?’ ”Just answer the question honestly. What exactly happened?”

Zhong Haoyu said, ”My ’resources’ all come from my thugs. I don’t know the specifics... Wait a moment, sir. I’ll go ask. I’ll definitely get you a satisfactory answer!”

”Be quick about it!”

A loud crash came from Zhong Haoyu’s end; he must have fallen over.

Mu Lin held the phone away from his ear and waited patiently.

A few minutes later, Zhong Haoyu returned. ”Mr. Mu, a woman named Qiao Xi gave him the information. It included her name and photo—it was very detailed!”

Mu Lin frowned. ’Could she be someone who specializes in this kind of racket?’

”Do you know Qiao Xi?”

Tang Shuang tilted her head in confusion. ”She’s my best friend. I was just talking with her last night... Wait, could it be...”

Mu Lin nodded, confirming her unspoken suspicion.

”Exactly,” Mu Lin said.

Fury ignited in Tang Shuang’s eyes. She wished she could tear the treacherous Qiao Xi to shreds. But then she remembered her leg hadn’t fully healed and she couldn’t make any big movements. She could only let out a heavy sigh. ”Sigh... I never thought it would be her... Both things were her doing.”

Mu Lin patted her on the shoulder. ”Let’s go. Time to settle the score.”

Tang Shuang nodded. Mu Lin’s back radiated a profound sense of security.

Mu Lin was about to call a car with his phone when he looked at Tang Shuang. ”Where is your company?”

Tang Shuang took the phone and tapped on it a few times. ”My company is too small; it’s not marked on the map.”

Mu Lin nodded slowly. ”So what’s the deal with you and Qiao Xi?”

Tang Shuang said, ”Qiao Xi and I are both on the design team. We clicked really well, so we became close.”

Mu Lin narrowed his eyes. ”The guy who’s been pestering you is also in the design department?”

”His surname is Cui. He’s the manager...”

Tang Shuang pressed her lips together, seeming to tremble under the pressure.

Mu Lin smiled slightly. ”Look at you. You’re about to resign and will have nothing more to do with him. What’s there to be afraid of?”

Tang Shuang agreed it was unnecessary and nodded. ”You’re right, but that man is really terrible. I often hear about him getting handsy with female employees. Our design department has a lot of women, and many have fallen victim to him.”

”What about you?”

Tang Shuang said, ”He tried to make a move on me too, but I always dodged him. My brother taught me a few moves. After he learned his lesson the hard way, he didn’t dare try again.”

Mu Lin sighed. ”The man is total scum. Why didn’t anyone report him to the boss? If the company isn’t big, it shouldn’t be hard to find him.”

Tang Shuang exclaimed, ”No way! Report him to the boss? Do you want to get fired?”

”It’s so hard to find a job these days. So many recent graduates can’t even find one...”

Mu Lin chuckled. ”That’s true. But you’re the general manager of the Celestial Phoenix Hotel now. You can’t be so timid anymore, or people will laugh at you.”

Tang Shuang thought for a moment and nodded:

”I suppose you’re right.”

She straightened her back.

Meanwhile, in the manager’s office of the design department.

A woman was sitting on a man’s lap, and the man was slowly stroking her thigh, which was clad in black stockings.

”Qiao Xi, it’s all thanks to you! You did a great job. Otherwise, I would never have known that Tang Shuang was planning to resign.”

The man was the Manager Cui whom Tang Shuang had mentioned, a smarmy look on his face.

Qiao Xi squirmed. ”I’m happy I could help you, Manager Cui, but how can you not understand my feelings for you!”

”I understand, of course I understand!” Manager Cui planted a light kiss on Qiao Xi’s cheek. ”You are both my wings!”

Qiao Xi’s face flushed slightly, her expression full of coyness.

Manager Cui gave Qiao Xi’s bottom a light slap, and she hastily stood up.

”Manager Cui, what are you doing! You can’t just slap a girl’s bottom like that!”

Manager Cui said, ”I have another task for you. If you don’t do it well, I’ll be very unhappy.”

Qiao Xi said, ”Tell me, what is it?”

Manager Cui said, ”You need to get the name of her next company out of her! I’ll use my connections to make sure they reject her!”

Qiao Xi nodded, her eyes sparkling. ”Okay! Don’t you worry, I guarantee I’ll complete the mission.”

Manager Cui added, ”The next performance review is coming up soon. Your performance has been excellent, enough to qualify for the deputy team leader position. Keep up the good work!”

Qiao Xi’s eyes shone even brighter. ”Thank you, Brother Cui!”

This was a clear promise. The position of deputy team leader was as good as hers!

After running out of the office, Qiao Xi took a few more quick steps, feeling as if she were floating on air. Her high heels even slipped a little from her excitement.

She ducked into the restroom, found a stall, and laughed to her heart’s content.

After she had her fill of laughter, she returned to her desk, but she still couldn’t completely suppress her smile, her face beaming with delight.

Mu Lin and Tang Shuang got out of the car. After going upstairs, Tang Shuang rushed into the design department, her steps fast, and shouted:

”Qiao Xi, you traitor, get out here!”

With Mu Lin standing behind her, Tang Shuang was filled with confidence, her bearing valiant and heroic.

The surrounding employees couldn’t help but look at her.

’What’s all this fuss about? What’s gotten into her?’

They knew Tang Shuang had taken a few days of sick leave. ’Did she come back just to lose her mind?’

Qiao Xi’s joyful reverie was shattered by the sharp cry. She looked up and was surprised to see it was Tang Shuang.

She hastily stood up and walked over joyfully. ”Tang Shuang, I’ve missed you to death these past few days!”

”Your leg is all better! It’s so straight and beautiful, that’s great!”

Tang Shuang said coldly, ”Aren’t you disappointed?”

”Of course not! Not at all!” Qiao Xi waved her hands frantically. ”I couldn’t be happier for you! Our sisterly bond is so deep. You’re really wronging me!”

Tang Shuang nodded. ”That’s right. Our sisterly bond is so deep that you gave my information to that gangster Zhong Haoyu, which got my leg broken.”

Qiao Xi’s expression changed dramatically. ”Don’t talk nonsense! How could I do something like that? We’re sisters!”

Tang Shuang folded her arms across her chest and watched Qiao Xi’s performance with a frosty gaze.

’It was just a performance, after all. And this lie is about to be exposed!’

’Just a little longer!’
