High School DxD: Return of the Crimson Dragon Emperor

Chapter 447: Chapter 437 Former President Rias and the others were drenched in cold sweat

”That’s the same blast Asem was using for theatrics... to think it could pierce that barrier in a single shot...!”

Former President Rias and the others were drenched in cold sweat. I was no different. My heart was pounding with a sickening rhythm. The sweat wouldn’t stop.

If Maurice-san and the others hadn’t shouted, we would have been swallowed by that light, erased from existence without a single scrap of flesh remaining. Indeed, everything caught in that path—including the Evil Dragons—had simply vanished.

A Yokai who seemed to be a leader of their unit turned to a subordinate.

”Damage report!”

”T-there is no damage to the Japanese mainland. H-however, that attack just wiped out a huge number of our allies... Reports say we’ve lost nearly thirty percent of our forces...!”

”What?!”

Thirty percent?! A single attack took out nearly a third of our army?!

Alice-san spoke up.

”An attack with that much range... and they didn’t care if they caught their own mass-produced pawns in the crossfire. Even if they lose numbers, they can just keep pumping out more. What a disgusting tactic... It’s the kind of move you can only pull when you have overwhelming numbers to spare.”

A Valkyrie asked Alice-san, ”Do you think the enemy intends to crush us completely?”

”They did call it an all-out war. Up until now, they were just playing around, but it looks like they’re getting serious...”

Everyone caught their breath at those words. Even Xenovia, who had been reaping Evil Dragons with overwhelming power, was white-knuckled, her hands trembling on her sword.

Former Student Council President Sona spoke up.

”However, it strikes me as odd that they didn’t use an attack of that magnitude until now. Does it require a long charge time?”

It was true; there was no lingering sensation that they were about to fire a second shot immediately. Whether it takes time to reload, as she suggested, or if it’s a trap to make us think so, we couldn’t know.

And we didn’t have time to ponder it.

Risha-san narrowed her eyes.

”It seems the difficulty level is going up.”

Following her gaze, we turned back to the Gate. Emerging from the portal were hundred-meter-class, colossal Magic Beasts. Monsters on the level of the Ultra Beast-Demons and Grand Beast-Demons that once ravaged the Underworld.

They came in swarms—hundreds, thousands—stepping into our world. Flanking them were mass-produced Evil Dragons and clones of the Red Dragon Emperor.

The enemy’s level had just jumped exponentially.

Alice-san grimaced. ”This is bad... We can beat them, but we can’t afford to waste time here.”

”Right,” Rias agreed, her mind racing. ”The mission doesn’t even truly begin until we cross over to their world. We can’t get bogged down here... but how do we break through?”

Rias wanted to save Miu-san and Alice-san’s Shin-ki transformations for as long as possible, so we couldn’t use them here. Rias’s own new finishing move could probably wipe out a wide area, but it required significant startup time and wasn’t suited for a continuous stream of enemies.

We needed another way.

Risha-san spoke. ”We break through by force while thin out their ranks. Time is limited. This is our only option. Alice, can you break through the beast wall if you use a micro-duration transformation to minimize exhaustion?”

”Let’s see... If Miu-chan and I—no, if Maurice, Risha, and everyone who powered up in the training dimension focus our strength into a single point, we should be able to blast a hole through them. Then the rest of the offensive units can rush in.”

”It’s settled then. In that case—”

Risha-san nodded, but then stopped.

Koneko-chan’s cat ears twitched violently. She was reacting to something—her eyes were fixed past the divine barrier, toward the Japanese mainland.

Rias asked with a puzzled look, ”Koneko? What’s wrong?”

”Strong... I feel an incredibly strong presence. I know this feeling. There’s no mistake. It’s the Renkan Keikikou (Chain-Link Internal Ki).”

The realization hit everyone at once.

Renkan Keikikou...! That means... the only person who can use that is...!

A smile spread across everyone’s faces.

That’s right. It’s him. He’s here.

In this desperate situation, there’s only one person who would come charging in to save us!

”MILKYYYYYYYYYYY GOD FINAAAAAAAAAAL FLAAAAAASH!!!!!!!!”

...Eh?

[Kiba’s Perspective: End]
