High School DxD: Return of the Crimson Dragon Emperor

Chapter 446: Chapter 436 If these were the knights of my past

If these were the knights of my past, it would have ended there.

But this is where the Crimson Drag-Troopers truly show their worth.

The clone that had destroyed the knight suddenly underwent a horrific change. Fire, ice, and lightning erupted from within its body, ravaging it from the inside out. The armor cracked, crumbled, and finally dissolved into ash.

In its place, crimson particles gathered and reconstructed the knight. The knight immediately locked onto a new target and swung its blade.

This was the second power of the Crimson Knights: They inflict every elemental attribute upon those who destroy them as a ”curse.” Furthermore, any knight destroyed is instantly resurrected and returns to the fray—stronger than they were before.

A group of knights surrounded a clone, blurring with high-speed movements to disorient it. Through perfect coordination, they carved through the clone’s armor before finally impaling it from four directions simultaneously.

Miu-san watched the scene, whispering in awe.

”Their movements are different... Are they actually learning?”

”Yes. The Crimson Knights return in an enhanced state. When they do, they study the attack power and speed of the opponent that defeated them, adapting their tactics to achieve a perfect kill. In short, the more they are destroyed, the stronger they become.”

”...You really don’t stay down, do you? You fall, and you get right back up. Kiba-kun, your abilities really have been heavily influenced by your ’brother,’ haven’t they?”

I honestly feel the same way. But this is also the power I wished for.

Alice-san, her hair turned pure white and crackling with pale lightning, gave a half-lidded, weary look.

”Kiba-kun’s power is starting to border on ’cheat’ territory, too... I wonder if that’s Maurice’s influence?”

I wonder...

That man’s power is a bottomless abyss. Even with Xenovia, Irina, and myself all reaching new heights, it takes the three of us attacking at once just to make it a fair fight.

I decided to ask Alice-san a question.

”In that training dimension, Maurice-san was trying to reach an even higher realm... I wonder, what exactly is he aiming for?”

”Don’t ask me. That old man... at this rate, he’ll probably just keep getting infinitely stronger while laughing about it.”

”That’s not funny, that’s terrifying!” Miu-san shouted, her face turning pale.

It really was terrifying. In fact, he was laughing while he traded blows with the three of us after we leveled up!

I called out to Maurice-san, who was currently cleaving through tens of thousands of enemies with a single swing.

”Um... just how strong do you intend to get?”

”Hah? Isn’t it obvious? I’m gonna keep pushing the limit until I drop dead. Today’s me is stronger than yesterday’s. Tomorrow’s me will be stronger than today’s. And right now, I’m stronger than I was a minute ago—a second ago. I told you that during training, didn’t I?”

He certainly did. During our daily hell, Maurice-san hammered those words into us constantly.

Do not decide where your end lies. You only find your limit when you die. Until that moment comes, a person can refine themselves forever. The only question is: will you do the work, or won’t you?

Maurice-san flashed a wide, feral grin.

”Yuto. You guys are gonna get a hell of a lot stronger. There’s no ceiling for you.”

Xenovia, Irina, and I continued to unleash the results of Maurice-san’s hellish training. Combined with the female members of the Occult Research Club who had been coached by Risha-san, we managed to annihilate a massive portion of the Evil Dragons flooding into our world in a short amount of time.

The ”Gate” was finally within reach. Everyone braced themselves for the final push—and then it happened.

”EVERYONE, GET AWAY FROM THE GATE! NOW!!”

Maurice-san’s voice, sensing something, shook the very foundations of the battlefield.

”Everyone, evacuate the combat zone! Hurry!”

Even Risha-san turned pale, urgently ushering everyone to retreat.

Some were startled and confused, but the sheer sheer force of their voices made our bodies react instinctively. We fell back, creating a massive distance from the Gate.

An instant later—the space beyond the Gate began to shimmer, and a cataclysmic torrent of light came screaming toward us!

Everyone who saw it scrambled to get out of the way.

The torrent, well over a hundred meters in diameter, roared past us. It collided with the barriers the Gods had painstakingly erected, tearing through them like wet tissue paper.

That attack just now...!
