Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2584: Chapter 2520: Bitter Memories

On the day when Old Madam Nian and Nian Tang came, they mentioned that Nian Chengcheng had a diary, and they even wanted to use that diary in exchange for this house.

At the time, he thought it was just something Nian Chengcheng casually jotted down, as he remembered she used to have such a habit.

Because they knew Meng Xinian would want his mother’s belongings, Old Madam Nian and Nian Tang had that confidence, but he hadn’t expected that the diary really contained something valuable.

Yet hearing Meng Xinian talk about these things now, his heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.

Could it be that all those events that happened back then were recorded by Nian Chengcheng?

”That’s right, it’s my mother’s diary; she recorded everything.”

”Where is the diary?” Meng Chaojun asked anxiously, ”What else is written in the diary?”

He was desperate to know what was written in that diary.

Meng Xinian said somewhat mockingly, ”Why? Don’t you suspect that what she wrote was meant to cover up the truth?”

”No, she wouldn’t,” Meng Chaojun instinctively replied, ”If she had written it deliberately, she should have shown it to me back then. But she cherished that diary like it was precious. I thought, I thought it was filled with her feelings for other men, and I feared that reading it would make me nauseous, so I never considered looking at it...”

At this point, his body swayed again.

He suddenly recalled, if Nian Chengcheng was writing those kinds of things, how could he frequently find her writing in her diary daily? She should have hidden it from him.

But the truth was, he often saw her at the desk writing, sitting at the windowsill writing, and writing in the courtyard.

She never avoided him when she kept her diary.

So does this mean she wasn’t afraid of him seeing her diary after all?

Realizing this, Meng Chaojun’s face turned pale.

With difficulty, he asked, ”You say, that’s how Nian Che felt about her back then?”

”Otherwise, why do you think he came to cause trouble at the house back then? When he made a fuss, did you not sense anything?” Meng Xinian still thought he was indescribably stupid back then.

If Meng Chaojun hadn’t said what he did earlier, he wouldn’t have been provoked into revealing the truth now.

But after saying it, he didn’t regret it.

Meng Chaojun ought to know what kind of person Nian Che is and guard against him properly.

Lest he ends up in Ke Ku Li, leaving only Chiang Xiaoxiao here, and Nian Che causes trouble for her. Chiang Xiaoxiao already has enough troubles that he wishes he could hide her in his pocket, carrying her with him to shield her from all storms.

But all along, the trouble he seemed to have caused her was minimal, whereas the trouble from the Meng Family was plenty, and even now Meng Chaojun still relies on her.

Therefore, Meng Xinian has always been considerate of Chiang Xiao.

Meng Chaojun couldn’t help but recall the day Nian Che came to make trouble at their house.

Every word, every look, every gesture; he recalled meticulously.

The more he thought about it, the more shocked his heart became.

Thinking back now, it was indeed suspicious in every aspect, especially Nian Che’s gaze back then, which was almost filled with a fire of destruction. That could not possibly have been the look of someone merely angry because his sister was marrying in secret, could it?

But at that time, that’s indeed how he thought.

Then he couldn’t help but think back to the night he thought he was catching an affair, and Nian Chengcheng’s expression when she returned.
