Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1344: Chapter 1345 Insufficient Intelligence

Chiang Xiao fell silent for a while.

She did not know why, but the news about that man had stirred something inside her.

”Then, does that old gentleman not know where he went either?” Ge Liutao couldn’t help but ask.

The man who looked similar to Chiang Xiao, also seemingly the right age, they truly couldn’t avoid caring.

”He doesn’t know either. Our little girl always wanted to take him home to live, right? When she heard he was gone, she kept asking that old gentleman until he was almost in tears, saying he really didn’t know. I remembered because she suddenly brought up that child from the past again that day.”

His cousin’s little girl remembered the child from back then, for nearly twenty years.

She was already married with children, her own children now about the same age as Chiang Xiao, but whenever she mentioned the child from the past, she still couldn’t help but show a bit of a girlish attitude.

”She said he was the handsomest man she had ever seen, and also, the man with the most charisma.”

Chiang Xiao suddenly thought of Chiang Qingzhu.

If that man could captivate a girl from the Bai Family, then, of course, he might have also captivated Chiang Qingzhu.

If that man had left a nearly twenty-year impression on the girl from the Bai Family, then why couldn’t Chiang Qingzhu have left her and her parents behind to find him?

The more she thought, the more she felt that this man was very likely her biological father.

It was just that she had never thought before that her biological father might have been mentally challenged.

If he truly was mentally challenged, what right did she have to resent him?

The man simply couldn’t be responsible; he wouldn’t even conceive of the notion of responsibility!

Now, she didn’t know what she was feeling inside.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were both looking at her, not knowing what to say.

Chiang Xiao fell silent again for a while, then asked Old Bai, ”Old Bai, is that gentleman from back then still alive?”

”He has already passed away.” Old Bai shook his head, ”He had no relatives, no children. I had someone take care of his funeral back then. However, he still had some books copied by that child, which I’ve kept and brought with me. I figured since that man resembled you, there might be some fate between you, and those two books were of no use to me anyway, so I brought them for you.”

Only then did Chiang Xiao notice that Old Bai had been holding a bag in his hand all along.

She had initially thought it was a New Year’s gift prepared for her, but it turned out to be books transcribed by that man?

Old Bai gave her the books.

Speaking of books, they were merely two thin volumes, filled with copied Tang and Song Dynasty poems.

But when she saw the handwriting, Chiang Xiao was shocked.

Despite their age, the incredibly beautiful cursive script on the paper nearly made her applaud in admiration.

Elegant, exquisite, and full of character, each character was admirable.

Such handwriting, even today, would outshine many calligraphers by miles!

The next volume was in a different script; it was running script.

Equally beautiful.

This calligraphy had already won Chiang Xiao’s heart.

To be able to write such words, that man must have originally been outstanding, right?

”We guess that the kid wasn’t born with mental issues, otherwise how could he learn so much?”

Old Bai said, ”If you say he was mentally challenged, he could recite lengthy ancient texts perfectly without a single error. I don’t know why he just couldn’t remember his own name and hometown. Thinking of this child now, my heart suddenly feels very concerned, that’s why I came in person to talk to you properly about this. These things, I cannot explain clearly over the phone.”
