Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1307: Chapter 1308: Hard to Mention

Aunt Guo had a strange expression on her face as she looked at Chiang Xiao, seemingly wanting to tell her something yet feeling it inappropriate. As for telling Meng Xinian, she found it equally uncomfortable.

”Aunt Guo, just say what you want to say,” Meng Xinian furrowed his brows.

Chiang Xiao seemed to catch on to something and directly asked, ”Aunt Guo, do you think Duan Qingqing is showing signs of pregnancy?”

Aunt Guo suddenly coughed violently.

She hadn’t expected Chiang Xiao to be so blunt, nor had she expected her to actually know.

”Miss Chiang, how would you know about this?”

Chiang Xiao’s age should have made her clueless about such matters.

Chiang Xiao remained composed, ”It’s nothing, I’ve seen a lot of it in the countryside. Whenever those sister-in-laws and aunts start throwing up, the elders get happy, saying there’s no need to see a doctor because it’s just pregnancy.”

So that was it.

Perhaps people in the countryside are just more straightforward.

Now, not only did Aunt Guo believe her, but Meng Xinian also suddenly realized.

In the countryside, the gossiping aunties and old women could speak more crudely than men, let alone discuss pregnancies.

But if Aunt Guo was bringing this up, did it mean that Duan Qingqing was indeed pregnant?

Chiang Xiao glanced at Meng Xinian and caught a hint of difficulty in Aunt Guo’s demeanor, immediately asking again, ”Is there something not right?”

”This... I’m not sure if I should say it.”

”Go on,” Meng Xinian said indifferently.

Aunt Guo felt that by revealing this, they might view her as an unethical gossip, but considering the gravity of the situation and her affection for Meng Xinian, whom she had always treated like her own child, she worried he might be harmed and finally decided to speak up.

”It was like this, some days ago, while I was preparing supper for the elder sir, I overheard the chief arguing with his wife.”

Though she had decided to speak, talking about such matters still made Aunt Guo hesitant. Facing Meng Xinian, a grown man, she found it particularly hard to say, and ended up pulling Chiang Xiao aside.

”Miss Chiang, I’d rather just tell you, and then you can discuss it with Young Master Meng!”

Meng Xinian: ”...”

Watching Aunt Guo pull Chiang Xiao to a corner of the courtyard, he shook his head and went upstairs with Chiang Xiao’s luggage first.

After a while, Chiang Xiao came upstairs.

Meng Xinian had quickly showered and changed into clean clothes, exuding a fresh soapy scent mixed with his own fragrance, which was extremely pleasant.

Meng Xinian could become infatuated with Chiang Xiao’s delicate scent, and indeed, Chiang Xiao loved the clean and fresh smell on him.

She walked up to him, staring at him.

Noticing her peculiar expression, Meng Xinian raised an eyebrow, ”What exactly is it that makes Aunt Guo so hesitant to speak?”

Chiang Xiao initially couldn’t figure out what Aunt Guo wanted to say, but after hearing it, she finally understood why Aunt Guo couldn’t say it in front of Meng Xinian.

”Aunt Guo said that night she heard your father arguing with Duan Qingqing. It seemed like Duan Qingqing wanted to do that something, and your father didn’t want to, and Duan Qingqing ended up crying...”

Wanted to do that something?

Didn’t want to do that something?

Meng Xinian was initially perplexed, ”What?”

Ah, men of this era are still very naive indeed.

She bit her lower lip and then vaguely repeated, ”You know, that thing.”

It was only then that Meng Xinian understood, feeling as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on him.

Once he grasped it, his intellect kicked into gear, and he immediately pinpointed the crux of the matter, ”That woman wants to have the baby herself?”
