Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 390: Chapter 390: The Him in Her Eyes

Meng Xinian had mentally prepared himself that Chu Liang would bring the gift from Chiang Xiao, of course, if he really hadn’t brought it, he would definitely feel disappointed and let down.

But now that Chu Liang had brought it, he suddenly felt as if the weather had improved, and he didn’t even feel the heat anymore.

”A painting?” Could it be the portrait he had asked her to draw for him last time? Had she really done it?

Meng Xinian took the painting and immediately pulled the scroll out of the sewn cloth bag.

Hu Xibing and Chu Liang both wanted to come over and take a look, but he quickly stepped back a few steps, shooting them a glance that effectively stopped them in their tracks.

”No way, we can’t look?”

”Captain Meng, I’ve heard that your sister-in-law is very good at painting. Last time she drew the layout of my home so accurately it looked just like the real thing, which was a great help for the mission, wasn’t it?” Chu Liang’s impression of Chiang Xiao was vague, based only on a few words he had heard at times.

It was when Chiang Xiao was talking to Meng Xinian that he heard it.

He only remembered a somewhat childish but very sweet voice.

Now that Chiang Xiao and her family had rented his house, he felt indebted to Chiang Xiao, considering her to be his lifesaver. Yet he had still accepted her rent, which he really shouldn’t have.

But when he had told Hu Xibing to return the rent, Hu had brought back Chiang Xiao’s response.

If they were to refund the rent, they would move out and not rent it anymore.

That left him with no choice.

Because of this, he felt somewhat ashamed to face Captain Meng.

However, Captain Meng had also said that the rent should be taken since he had no income at all now.

Meng Xinian said indifferently, ”A painting given to me, I should of course be the first to see it. After I’ve had a look, if I think it’s something you guys can appreciate, then we’ll talk.”

Tch, appreciate indeed.

Hu Xibing and Chu Liang had no more to say, they could only watch as he slowly unfolded the painting.

Then they saw his eyes suddenly light up, as if an entire galaxy had fallen into his pupils.

It was obvious Captain Meng really liked this painting!

They became even more curious about what Chiang Xiao had drawn.

Meng Xinian indeed liked the painting very much, not just because it was drawn by Chiang Xiao, but also because in it, he saw a version of himself that even he had never seen before!

He recognized at a glance that Chiang Xiao had drawn the scene from the last time he had gone to Peace Town, when he happened to see her on the street.

The ancient-style buildings on either side, the very artistic streets, he was walking towards it, with the entire morning sunlight behind him, softly bright with hints of gold, and a glimmer of rosy dawn.

The light draped over his Supervisor Guard uniform.

His likeness was drawn incredibly realistically, his eyebrows and eyes resembled a photograph.

However, Meng Xinian himself had never seen his own lips curved in a faint smile, yet the Meng Xinian in the painting had a subtle smile.

The reason he was so pleased was because it was drawn by Chiang Xiao, proving that this was how Chiang Xiao saw him at that time; the way she saw him was really handsome.

She even captured the hint of a smile on his face at that time, didn’t that mean she was watching him very closely?

And after such time had passed, she still remembered so clearly, didn’t that mean the scene made a deep impression on her?

Didn’t that suggest she had always kept him in her heart?

Thinking of this, Meng Xinian couldn’t help but feel waves of sweetness.

Chiang Xiao’s artistry was even better than he had imagined!

Prior to this, she had drawn landscapes, but now she could paint portraits this well, what else was there that she couldn’t draw?

Could such artistry truly be achieved by a thirteen-year-old elementary student?
