Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Does it Count as a Token of Love?

Since there was no time to go up the mountain today, Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang decided to head home early.

There was work to be done at home, too; Liu Pei and Ge Xiaotong had recently found a type of handcraft work—sewing handkerchiefs, which they could take home and be paid per piece.

Although the pay was only a fifteenth of a penny for two handkerchiefs, making more in a day could earn them a little living expense.

Ge Liutao had just been listening to them and felt tempted, planning to find an opportunity to ask them to bring some for her to try. If she could do it, she also wanted to join in.

Liu Pei and Ge Xiaotong naturally agreed. They now wanted to get back to their work as soon as possible to earn a few more dimes.

Meanwhile, Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang still had to look for a house.

Chiang Xiao opened the door, and Ge Liutao, seeing her with that box, understood and patted her shoulder, ”Put away the things and come out to see your great-uncle off.”

Chiang Xiao looked up to see Meng Xinian looking at her questioningly, and she pursed her lips slightly.

Initially, she really had intended to take that item back.

Why should she give it to him?

It was something from the Chiang family, so valuable at that!

But after hearing her grandfather’s words, she changed her mind.

An engagement party had been held, and no matter whether the marriage arrangement between them would be canceled in the future, for now, they were legitimately engaged.

It made sense to give it to him.

She didn’t want to only take gifts from him.

Chiang Xiao carried the box into her bedroom and immediately sent it into the Space.

As soon as it was placed inside, the box was automatically arranged on the shelf inside the Bamboo Hut. It seemed that after the Space’s upgrade, it could automatically organize items. Things placed inside were no longer simply left on the surface of the Black Land.

After seeing off Ge Dejun’s family, both Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao looked somewhat exhausted.

”Grandpa, Grandma, go get some rest. I should be heading back to the league on the bus soon. Even though I’m on leave to recover, I can’t stay too far from the league. There’s a medical room there, and I will recuperate and gradually resume training,” said Meng Xinian. ”I might not be able to come back for a while, so please take care of yourselves. If there’s anything, have Little give me a telegram or a call.”

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao knew that a Supervisor Guard couldn’t stay here indefinitely, and actually, they didn’t want him to stay either.

After all, Little was still young, and it would be better for the two to be apart for the time being.

Hearing his words, they both agreed in unison, and Ge Liutao felt a little embarrassed, ”You see, we don’t really have anything to send with you...”

She had intended, since Meng Xinian was their future son-in-law and was leaving, that they should prepare some things for him to take along.

But right now, there really wasn’t anything at home, aside from the fabric that he had brought.

The food had mostly been consumed by today’s guests.

”Grandma, we’re family, no need for formalities,” Meng Xinian naturally wouldn’t mind these details.

Chiang Songhai nodded, ”Then we won’t see you off later, and in the future, we’ll have Little write to you.”

He and Ge Liutao went off to rest while Meng Xinian immediately pulled Chiang Xiao into her room.

He stuffed the ring and silver dollars into Chiang Xiao’s hands.

”Keep these, and give them back to Grandpa and Grandma whenever you have the chance,” he said and then pulled out the necklace from his pocket that he had previously taken from the hospital. Grabbing her hand, he placed the necklace into it.

”And this too, keep it.”

Originally, his grandmother had intended to give it to his future bride. He had gotten carried away thinking it suited her and wanted to give it to her. Now it was proper and official.

The Jade Little Gourd was destined to be hers.

Chiang Xiao pressed her lips together and said, ”I’ll accept the gourd, but you should keep the ring.”
