Chapter 148: Chapter 126: With the Body of a Human!_2

Never mind that he’d charged in and, with a couple of quick punches, knocked down Hu Zi, the guy responsible for grabbing the kids.

The problem was, he was like a stubborn leech, clinging to them relentlessly.

He’d chased them all the way from the suburbs into the mountains, and he was still damn well chasing!

Honestly, in all his years in the business, aside from the police and the distraught parents of missing children, this was the first time he’d encountered someone so persistent!

The boss’s brows furrowed. A cold glint flashed in his narrow, slanting eyes. After a moment’s thought, he said to the man in the driver’s seat, ”Since he enjoys chasing so much, let’s show him the consequences of chasing us. Xiao Wu, I remember the road ends after that patch of forest up ahead, right? Punch it through there, then make a sharp turn. We’ll trick these clueless little bastards and lose them! If they dare chase me, I’ll fucking kill them!”

To this, Xiao Wu in the driver’s seat shook his head. ”Can’t do it, Boss. We can’t trick him!”

”Why not? This isn’t your first time doing this kind of thing. You should be a pro by now.”

”Er... well, sure, Boss, you’ve got a point. But the problem is, the people I’ve tricked before were all driving. This time, *he’s* not in a car.”

Peering through the rearview mirror at Zhang Beixing, who was tailing their vehicle closely, Xiao Wu had to admit he’d never seen anything like it.

Hearing this, the boss was stunned again. ”What the hell? The guy chasing us isn’t driving?”

”Yeah, Boss, didn’t you see? He’s just running after us on foot, and he’s all alone!”

”Fuck! Why didn’t you say so earlier? Damn it, d’you think I had time to look outside when I’d just knocked the kid out? I thought he was driving, with a whole crew behind him! Since he’s running, just ignore him. Let him chase if he wants. I thought he was some tough bastard, but it turns out he’s just a dumbass. Trying to outrun a car? He’ll run himself to death!”

The boss cursed under his breath. After glancing outside to make sure they wouldn’t hit a tree, he rolled down the window, leaned out, shot Zhang Beixing a contemptuous look, and spat a thick glob of phlegm.

”Idiot!”

Seeing this, Zhang Beixing, who was relentlessly pursuing them about a hundred meters behind the van, felt his face darken.

Have I been too easy on these bastards? Do they think the storm’s passed, the rain’s stopped, and they’re fucking invincible again?

Unbelievable. Sticking his head out to taunt me.

Zhang Beixing couldn’t tolerate it. Noticing the mountain road ahead flattened out slightly and that the traffickers were trying to use the opportunity to speed up, he immediately increased his own speed, closing the distance.

Seeing Zhang Beixing accelerate in response to his provocation, the trafficker boss watched as the distance between them, instead of widening, continued to shrink.

Yet, he wasn’t panicked in the slightest.

He even had the composure to light a cigarette. Watching Zhang Beixing with a vicious smile, his eyes glinting with mockery, he drawled, ”Kid, come on. We’ve got no beef, you and I. All I did was snatch a little girl in front of you. Is it really worth all this? Good grief, you’ve chased me all the way from the Shishi suburbs. Don’t you think it’s time to call it a day?”

”Don’t just stay quiet, that’s no fun. Want a smoke? This is top-shelf ’95 True Dragon,’ five bucks a stick. Can’t afford this kind of good stuff unless I sell a few kids.”

”Oh, right, almost forgot. You’re running, so you can’t smoke. What a shame.”

”Kid, listen to your Uncle. Don’t try to be a hero over something like this. It’s pointless to keep chasing. How about we both take a step back? You stop chasing me, and I’ll let this whole thing slide today. What do you say?”

”If you think that’s not enough, your old bro here can concede even more. I saw you take down Hu Zi—that middle-aged fella—in just a couple of moves. You’ve got skills. How about joining us? With talent like yours, if you join us, I can’t make huge promises, but earning tens of thousands a year would be a breeze.” Turning to the others in the van with a sinister smile, he added, ”Ain’t that right, boys?”

The others in the van immediately caught on and burst into laughter.

One of them patted his bulging wallet, which made a dull THUMP-THUMP sound. Grinning, his fleshy face creasing, he yelled, ”Yeah, the Boss is right! Ever since I started working with you, Boss, my pockets have been getting fuller and fuller! These kids are a real gold mine. Just one quick sale, and you can make a hundred thousand or so!”

Another licked his lips, a lecherous expression spreading across his face as if savoring a thought. ”HAHAHA! Hey, kiddo, why not join us? If you do, we can definitely hit a new high, snatching a hundred-odd kids a year, no problem! And if you have... special tastes, we can even let you have first pick. How about it?”

Still another chuckled grimly, his voice like a broken gong, ”You guys are twisted. But hey, so am I! It’s a real shame this little girl has to be sold intact. Otherwise, I’d love to see if she could break the last kid’s record if I chopped off her arms and legs and threw her on the street to beg. Just thinking about it gets me a little excited, you know.”

Listening to the cacophony of harsh voices from the minivan.

At that moment, Zhang Beixing finally understood the saying: Hell is empty, and all the Devils are here on Earth!

There was nothing these people wouldn’t do!
