”My turn. Draw.”

As it came back around to Gekko’s turn, he took a moment to steady his breathing.

The Spell Canceller was truly unexpected. It was a hard counter to his Armament strategy—a monster that could single-handedly shut down his key tactics, a real headache for Gekko.

If his deck was built entirely around ”Armament Reincarnation,” drawing this matchup could have spelled disaster.

But a true expert never bets everything on just one strategy.

Naturally, Gekko’s deck still held other possibilities.

”No wonder both Seto Kaiba and Yako immediately noticed how unusual you are. I haven’t met such a worthy opponent in a long time…”

Gekko spoke seriously.

”But I’m far from reaching my limit!

I activate my set card, the trap card Good Goblin Housekeeping!”

He triggered one of the traps in his back row.

”I can draw a number of cards from my deck equal to the number of ’Good Goblin Housekeeping’ in my graveyard plus one, then choose a card from my hand to return to the bottom of my deck.”

Currently, there were 0 copies of ”Good Goblin Housekeeping” in Gekko’s graveyard, so he’d draw one card, then return a card from his hand to the bottom of the deck.

”Now I chain a second one!” Gekko said, ”Another trap card— Good Goblin Housekeeping!

And that’s not all, I chain this card—”

Gekko quickly revealed another card in hand.

”Quick-Play Spell—Emergency Provisions! I send any number of Spell/Trap cards I control to the Graveyard, and gain 1000 Life Points for each!”

He pointed to the two ”Good Goblin Housekeeping” already activated.

”I send both to the Graveyard, gaining 2000 LP!”

[Gekko, LP 1000 → LP 3000]

Top commentator Misawa, with his professional insight, immediately realized the trick to this combo: ”Incredible! Removing traps from the field doesn’t affect their resolution!

Because ’Emergency Provisions’ sends the ’Good Goblin Housekeeping’ cards to the graveyard before their effects resolve, both copies are already in the graveyard when the effect resolves.”

Gekko: ”So, for each ’Good Goblin Housekeeping,’ I draw cards equal to the number of copies in my graveyard plus one—that’s three cards each!

A total of six cards drawn, then I return two cards from my hand to the bottom of the deck!”

Gekko swept his arm grandly, drawing six cards in one go.

”At the same time, he replenished his hand and recovered his LP…” Alexis couldn’t help but be impressed. ”So skilled at using the rules of dueling…”

Misawa said nothing but stole another glance at Kira.

He remembered Kira had said he’d beaten Gekko’s brother, Tenma Yako.

The more he realized how powerful the opponent was, the more terrifying it seemed—did this guy beat someone like Gekko’s brother?

”Spell Card—Graceful Charity. Draw three, then discard two.”

Gekko picked two cards to discard. But one of them quickly flashed with a golden glow and returned.

”One of the discarded cards is another Learning Elf!” Gekko said. ”When this card goes to the Graveyard, I draw a card!” (Original card)

He drew another card.

Gekko smiled slightly.

”When Yako first told me about you, I found it hard to believe, but now I’m convinced. You’re truly a special duelist, Fujiki Kira.

Just like Yako felt in his duel, I too feel that urge to go all out, to push myself to my limits just to beat you…”

He closed his eyes briefly.

”It’s strange. We’ve only just met, but it’s like I’m standing before a mountain I must try my best to climb.”

Misawa and Alexis exchanged glances; they seemed to understand Gekko’s feelings.

They’d dueled Kira before and felt that same sense—after just a few turns, it felt like running into a wall, and then realizing you’re facing a towering peak.

And then, they couldn’t help but go all out, trying every way to break through.

Of course, in the end, they lost.

They’d thought only they felt this way.

But it seemed even legendary duelists felt the same.

”You flatter me. I’m nothing special, just doing my best,” Kira replied politely. ”I’m learning and improving with every duel.”

”Doing your best… is that all?” Gekko smiled mysteriously.

But he didn’t continue, instead changing the topic.

”Let’s confirm this further… I activate the effect of Angel O1 from my hand.”

Gekko revealed a card.

”Angel O1 can be Special Summoned from the hand by revealing a Level 7 or higher monster in my hand.”

He then revealed another card.

”I reveal the Level 7 Angel O7 in my hand, and Special Summon Angel O1!”

[Angel O1, ATK 200]

Kira glanced at the Angel card Gekko had revealed.

Angel O7—Gekko’s ace monster in the original manga.

He remembered this one. While not widely used in the real game, it was well-known for lockdown strategies.

When Angel O7 is Tribute Summoned and on the field, all monsters cannot activate their effects.

Just for its lockdown, even today it’s a powerful field mute.

Kira frowned slightly.

It looked like something troublesome was about to appear.

”Then I Normal Summon a second Angel O1!”

[Angel O1, ATK 200]

”Second effect: While there’s a Special Summoned ’Angel O1’ on my field, I get an extra Tribute Summon for a Level 7 or higher monster.

So, I tribute both Angel O1!

Guardian with steel wings, awaken now—”

The two little angels vanished in a storm of tribute. White armor reflected dazzling light, white halos and armor shining together, forming a sacred domain of pure white light.

”—Angel O7, summon!”

[Angel O7, ATK 2500]

The artificial angel descended, its holy light rapidly expanding until it covered the whole field—a forbidden domain!
