Who Let Him Play Yugioh? (Re-Upload)

Catapult Turtle, summoned!

Kira frowned slightly.

Even Catapult Turtle is here.

No need to elaborate, this is a legendary monster that has left its mark on Yu-Gi-Oh! history. Not only is it known as one of Yugi Muto’s signature monsters, but it’s also been a staple in various FTK (First Turn Kill) combo decks, a soul card for countless combo players.

”’Jewel Sword’s effect: When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, draw 1 card from the deck.” (Original card)

This is also an equip card used by Chazz against Kira in the Moonlight Cup.

”Now for Catapult Turtle’s effect,” Gekko said. ”By tributing monsters on my field, I can inflict damage to my opponent equal to half the tributed monster’s ATK.” (Old effect)

The key point is that this effect isn’t once per turn, which is why it became a crucial part of various FTK combos.

Of course, this effect was nerfed in 2014. The new effect adds a once per turn limit, greatly weakening it.

But in this world, Catapult Turtle has no such restriction.

”Damn it, ’Waboku’ prevents battle damage and destruction, so he’s switched to effect damage. Kira only has 2000 LP, and Mr. Gekko has plenty of ammo on his field...”

Misawa’s expression grew grave.

”This is the power of a legendary duelist,” Alexis said, getting nervous for Kira. ”Even ’Waboku’ can’t stop Mr. Gekko’s offensive rhythm.”

She glanced at Kira worriedly.

Can Kira withstand this move?

”First, ’United We Stand’!” Gekko said. ”Tribute ’United We Stand’ to inflict damage equal to half its ATK!”

United We Stand still has 3700 ATK, so this attack will deal massive damage!

But Kira snapped his fingers.

”Counter Trap - Divine Wrath!” Kira declared. ”Discard a card from my hand to negate the effect of an Effect Monster and destroy it!”

He selected a card and sent it to the Graveyard. The field was filled with dark clouds. Flashes of lightning and silver serpents danced. A divine thunderbolt shot from the clouds, shattering Catapult Turtle.

”You even blocked that... Impressive.”

Gekko raised his arm to block the shock and dust, smiling slightly.

”But since I summoned ’Catapult Turtle’ this turn, I activate the Spell Card ’Card of Heaven and Earth’ from my hand!” (Original card)

A magic card appeared in front of Gekko.

”If I conducted a Tribute Summon this turn, I draw two cards. But cards drawn this way cannot be used this turn, and if possible, at least one must be set.”

Gekko drew two more cards.

”Next, I activate my set Spell Card—”

He waved his hand.

”Spell Card ’Armament Reincarnation’!” (Original card)

As the card flipped, more Equip cards appeared on his field!

Misawa was shocked: ”A second copy!?”

Kira was also surprised but quickly understood. For a key card in a deck’s strategy, of course, you’d run more than one if possible.

”I don’t need to explain the effect again,” Gekko said. ”I revive ’United We Stand,’ ’Mage Power,’ and ’Jewel Sword’ from the Graveyard as Equip Monsters with 500 ATK/DEF!”

[United We Stand, ATK 500]

[Mage Power, ATK 500]

[Jewel Sword, DEF 500]

”They gain their respective equip effects and boost their ATK!” Gekko said. ”With five monsters on my field, United We Stand gains 4000 ATK!

I have four equips up front and one set card in the back, for five Spells/Traps total. Mage Power gains 2500 ATK!”

[United We Stand, ATK 500 → 4500]

[Mage Power, ATK 500 → 3000]

This time, Jewel Sword is summoned in Defense Position.

”Then I set three cards to my backrow!” Gekko shouted. ”At this moment, the number of Spells/Traps on the field increases, so Mage Power gains another 1500 ATK!”

[Mage Power, ATK 3000 → 4500]

”In an instant, he’s back to this formation,” Misawa took a deep breath. ”Two monsters with 4500 ATK again...”

Fortunately, the Battle Phase is over this turn, and ’Waboku’ prevents Gekko from further attacks for now.

Alexis stayed silent, but she was thinking the same thing as Misawa.

Legendary duelists are terrifying!

Her eyes couldn’t help but shift to Kira.

He still looked the same as always, showing no change in expression.

She’d noticed this long ago. Kira’s duels always had a strange calmness, no matter who the opponent was.

Whether facing a pro or a rookie, a legend or not, it seemed to him they were all just duel opponents. His duels never felt tense or passionate.

It was as if he was just playing randomly, and somehow always ended up winning.

So, like Alexis, many at the academy felt he’d never actually gone all out against anyone.

She’d always thought it was because of his absolute confidence, built on his strength—that maybe he just didn’t think any opponent at the academy was worth his full effort.

But now, even facing this level of opponent, he’s still the same...
