Kirk: ”…”

Mokuba: ”…”

The duel was over, but for a moment, both the spectator and the defeated were silent.

One was reflecting on what kind of duel they’d just seen; the other was pondering exactly what they’d just played.

The Ojama Trio—cards most duelists would throw into a dry well as trash, a ”scrub” series everyone instinctively ignored.

Yet these scrubs just taught expert Professor kirk a lesson, showing him the dark side of dueling.

Whether it was Ojama Trio or the fused Ojama King, their ATK is always zero—only with stat-switching effects do they become remotely threatening.

Yet, facing a deck with almost no actual attack power, he’d never felt so powerless in a duel.

He’d never played a duel so stifling in his life.

Kirk looked at Kira with a complicated expression, then glanced strangely at Mokuba.

At the start of the duel, he’d looked at Mokuba with contempt, as if to say, ”Is KaibaCorp sending a scrub to insult me?”

But after just one duel, that contempt had turned to deep grievance: ”We didn’t even have a grudge, I just wanted a duel—sending out a deck like this is a bit much, isn’t it?”

Mokuba was a little surprised too. He coughed and said, ”Anyway, you lost. As agreed, talk—what’s the deal between us and Industrial Illusions? Why attack our servers?”

Kirk stood, collected himself, and got to business.

”It’s a misunderstanding,” he said.

”Oh?” Mokuba raised an eyebrow. ”What kind of misunderstanding?”

Kirk shook his head.

”I’m just a grunt, and this was all online using a virtual avatar—even if I told you, you might not believe me. Lord Tenma said so himself.

At 7 pm tonight, he will meet you in person at the Foundation headquarters. He’ll explain everything himself.”

The Foundation was a Duel Monsters-related foundation Tenma established, independent of his foster father Pegasus’s Industrial Illusions.

”Tenma Yako, huh?” Mokuba frowned slightly.

Kira roughly understood what he was thinking.

KaibaCorp and Tenma Yako did have some history.

Kira had researched past events and realized this world was a fusion of anime and manga. Major events tended to follow the anime, but Tenma Yako (a manga character) also existed here.

In the manga, while Kaiba was in America, Tenma Yako occupied KaibaCorp’s HQ, hijacked their servers, and challenged Yugi.

Kaiba rushed back, but in his duel against Tenma Yako—who wielded the Wicked Gods—Kaiba lost.

Tenma’s motivation in the manga was revenge for his foster father Pegasus’s death during the Duelist Kingdom, wanting to challenge Yugi. However, in this world, Pegasus was still alive, so history differed.

Nonetheless, even here, Tenma Yako, as the Wicked God wielder, was corrupted by those cards and challenged Yugi, who held the Egyptian Gods.

He also dueled Kaiba and, with the Wicked God’s power, defeated him—just like in the original. That was an unforgettable loss for Kaiba.

Afterward, Yugi defeated the Wicked Gods and helped Tenma Yako return to normal.

After that, Pegasus and Tenma realized the Wicked Gods were too strong and dangerous, so they were destroyed.

That was many years ago.

After such events, it’s understandable there’d be some bad blood between Seto Kaiba and Tenma Yako.

”Lord Tenma assures you, our organization had nothing to do with the hack. In fact, Industrial Illusions was a victim too,” Kirk said solemnly.

”Please come discuss in person tonight.”

”Alright, I understand,” Mokuba nodded. ”I’ll let my brother know too.”

”Thank you. I’ll take my leave now. Also, the Link System is a great invention. We’ll restore and erase all data in the area we hacked.”

”Good,” Mokuba nodded.

Professor Kirk Dixon bowed and logged out. Before leaving, he gave Kira one last look.

He opened his mouth as if to say something, but his expression was complicated, and after hesitating for a while, he said nothing, his form dissolving into a stream of data.

From the looks of it, he’d probably have a psychological shadow whenever he saw the Ojama Trio from now on.

Kira and Mokuba also logged out from the Link System.

After taking off the equipment, Mokuba told Kira to wait a moment, then hurried off to call President Kaiba and report what had happened.

The president was currently on a business trip abroad.

…

”Tenma Yako, huh?”

Kaiba squinted after picking up the phone, humming thoughtfully.

Apparently, like Mokuba, he was remembering some rather unpleasant old memories.

”So?” Mokuba asked.

”Hmph, interesting. Since they’ve invited us, of course, we’re going,” Kaiba sneered.

”Understood. I’ll go tonight then.”

Mokuba thought for a moment and smiled.

”By the way, big brother, quite the coincidence today. Do you remember the first year at Duel Academy, Fujiki Kira?”

”I remember,” Kaiba replied blandly.

”I happened to be showing him the Link System when this incident happened. Thankfully, he was with us—he stepped in for us and beat Tenma Yako’s Card Professor.”

”Hm,” Kaiba said. ”Yako’s minions may be competent, but that’s their limit.

If he can’t even handle them, he’s not worth paying attention to.”

”Haha, I thought the same—so I let him duel. But…”

Mokuba hesitated, searching for the right words.

”I watched his duel, and… how do I put it… it was a strange feeling.”

Kaiba: ”What, you think he’s amazing?”

Mokuba scratched his head.

”It’s not about being amazing—he’s really… special.”

He realized it was hard to describe that feeling in words.

”…But I recorded it. If you’re interested, you can watch. I think his duel was pretty interesting.”

Mokuba, recalling Kirk Dixon’s ”eaten shit” expression during the duel, couldn’t help but laugh again.

”Anyway, whatever the case, I found it pretty entertaining.”

He didn’t know about ”amazing,” but as a spectator, it was very satisfying.

”Oh?”

As soon as Kaiba heard about the duel, he was interested.

”Alright, send it to me.”
