Chapter 762: Chapter 763: Battle for the Top Three Rankings! (4 updates)

The moon was bright and the stars were sparse; the riverbank was graced with a gentle cool breeze that made the shadows of the trees sway, producing an appearance of ethereal grace.

Ling Feng and Yue Yunlan sat side by side on the river dike, each preoccupied with their thoughts. After exchanging greetings, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere became somewhat eerie for a moment.

Finally, it was Ling Feng who broke the silence, slowly saying, ”Miss Yue, tomorrow...”

”Tomorrow is the day of the final competition between Central Courtyard and East Courtyard, Young Master Ling. Are you contemplating how to face your friend here?” Yue Yunlan’s bright eyes shone like stars as she looked at Ling Feng and spoke softly.

”The first time we met, Miss Yue saved me from the river. You granted me a favor that saved my life, I should not be contending with Miss Yue for anything...”

Ling Feng sighed softly. He truly did not wish to raise his hand against Yue Yunlan, but facing a formidable opponent like the Central Courtyard Sword Team, if he did not compete, victory was by no means assured.

”Young Master Ling, seeing you in dilemma over me... I’m actually quite happy,” Yue Yunlan said with a gentle smile. ”At least it shows that in your heart, Yunlan holds some weight.”

”However, Young Master Ling truly need not trouble yourself. Yunlan is not a petty woman who can’t see the bigger picture. Although I and every one of my companions from the Central Courtyard Sword Team wish to win, competition is competition. Victory and defeat will be determined by strength. Tomorrow’s battle, Young Master Ling, do not hold back, and I, too, will not play easy.”

”What I hope to see is a true contest between sword teams. No matter the outcome, I seek only to have no regrets.”

”Aye, a contest without regrets. Miss Yue, I understand!”

A faint smile appeared on Ling Feng’s face. These past few days, he had said nothing about the final competition because he did not know how to face Yue Yunlan in the arena.

Now, it seemed he was not as insightful as Yue Yunlan.

”Tomorrow’s final, I will give it my all.”

A sharp glint flashed in Ling Feng’s eyes, and the shadows within his heart cleared away; tomorrow’s battle would carry no burdens.

Finally, Yue Yunlan delicately pursed her lips and with a voice almost imperceptible, murmured, ”On a personal note, Yunlan hopes that Young Master Ling can win tomorrow!”

”Miss Yue...” Ling Feng was taken aback for a moment. Seeing Yue Yunlan’s cheeks slightly flushed, he felt as if his heartstrings had been lightly plucked.

”But, I won’t go easy on you, you know.”

Yue Yunlan bit her silver teeth and raised her fist in a threatening pose, revealing a rare playful demeanor.

”Hahaha...”

Ling Feng laughed heartily and gave Yue Yunlan a respectful fist salute, ”Then I shall look forward to Miss Yue’s guidance in tomorrow’s competition.”

Yue Yunlan gave Ling Feng a feigned glare, then swiftly changed the topic, biting her lip she said, ”Let’s talk about tomorrow when it comes. Tonight, let’s speak only of the beauty of the night and set aside all other matters.”

”Alright, we’ll speak only of the beauty of the night, and nothing else.”

Ling Feng nodded slightly, his mood suddenly brightening. If he had known it would come to this, why had he been so troubled these past few days?

...

The next morning, Ling Feng and Jiang Xiaofan, among others, were already gathered at the East Courtyard Sword Team’s training ground, quite early on.

And the support group, led by the beasts such as Wang Yishan, Ouyang Jing, and others, had also gathered outside the training ground quite early.

The final showdown of the Five Academies Swordfighting Competition was upon them, and these beasts seemed incredibly excited, even more so than the members of the East Courtyard Sword Team.

After all, it had been many years since East Courtyard had been considered weak, to suddenly reach the finals and even be favorites for the championship was a fantastic turnaround that changed the entire atmosphere for East Courtyard.

In the past, when people spoke of East Courtyard, they thought of terms like ”chicken” and ”rookie,” but now the disciples of East Courtyard, walking within the academy, held their spines straighter than before.

Surrounded by a throng of the support group, the entire East Courtyard Sword Team marched magnificently to the Central Great Sword Fighting Arena.

Today, within the Great Sword Fighting Arena, tens of thousands of seats were filled without exception.

This day’s peak battle had been long awaited.

Although the East Courtyard Sword Team had been overwhelmingly dominant, crushing opponents left and right, the Central Courtyard Sword Team was certainly no mere name with no substance.

Today’s battle for the top three places was bound to be a fierce fight between dragons and tigers.

Before the competition even started, both sides’ support teams had already begun to shout out loud for the contestants they supported, like: ”Ling Feng! Ling Feng!...”

”Muu Liufeng! Muu Liufeng!...”

”Little Sword God! Little Sword God!...”

The varying shouts rose one wave above the next as if they had the momentum to move mountains and seas, almost deafening.

Some were supporting the East Courtyard Sword Team, others the Central Courtyard Sword Team. By comparison, the Central Court Second Team, which also qualified for the top three battle, seemed somewhat overlooked.

After all, the Central Court Second Team had already lost to the East Courtyard Sword Team; meeting them again seemed to have no suspense.

As for facing the Central Courtyard Sword Team, there was even less need to mention it, for if they could win, they wouldn’t be called the second team.

”Finally, we have reached the finals!”

General Deng sighed lightly and looked at his beloved granddaughter sitting beside him with a helpless feeling in his heart.

Under this precious granddaughter’s ”coercion,” he hadn’t missed a single match; he had watched all the East Courtyard Sword Team’s matches from beginning to end.

”Grandpa, grandpa, who do you guess will win today!”

Before the match even started, Deng Yongshi was so excited she couldn’t sit still, bouncing around.

General Deng rolled his eyes, ”If I say it’s the Central Courtyard Sword Team, can you, girl, let me, an old man, off the hook? You’re so biased towards that kid Ling Feng, I won’t guess! I simply won’t guess!”

Deng Yongshi’s face turned red, and she gave her grandfather a disgruntled look, spitting out softly, ”Stinky grandpa, when have I ever been biased towards that stinky guy!”

Deng Xian stroked his long beard, smiling without a word.

It’s worth mentioning that today, Leng Jianfeng actually didn’t hide in a corner with his cloak on purpose, but stood together with Wang Yishan and the others, boisterously boasting about how the East Courtyard Sword Team’s current ”half of the kingdom” was all trained by him, Leng Jianfeng.

Other academy instructors, despite finding this shamelessly thick-skinned fellow rather annoying, to the point of grinding their teeth in irritation, were helpless in the face of his claims.

Because what he said wasn’t wrong at all.

Ling Feng, Jiang Xiaofan, and Lee Bufan were all students he had brought up, and they genuinely made a difference!

Now that his students had made it into the finals, Instructor Leng was naturally eager to come forward and revel amid the glory.

This fellow, after all, was quite thick-skinned—it hadn’t taken him long to recover from the shadows of his ”lost love,” although he still seemed a bit awkward when he saw Instructor Su Qingxuan.

Finally, when the red sun in the east was high in the sky, a ”rumble” of drum sounds rose from the venue.

Boom! Boom! Boom!...

Each beat of the drum was like the evening drum and morning bell, resonant and powerful, shaking the Nine Heavens.

Then, Tong Chengtai, the chief judge presiding over this session’s Five Academies Sword Fighting Tournament, leaped forward, raised his hands slightly, and the whole venue immediately fell silent.

This also meant that the final showdown of the Five Academies Sword Fighting Tournament had officially begun!
