Immortal of the Nine Realms

Fang Chen’s expression shifted slightly, suddenly coming to a realization.

He had originally thought that both sides were competing for the reincarnated bearer of the Heavenly Dao for the sake of deduction techniques. However, what he had forgotten was that the Three Calamities and Nine Tribulations were themselves rules established by the Heavenly Dao. He could not imagine what that level of existence truly looked like. He only knew that, at the very least, traces of the Heavenly Dao’s laws existed throughout the Nine Mortal Realms, the Immortal Realm, and the Underworld.

Among the three realms, perhaps only the Underworld experienced the least interference because its mode of operation was fundamentally different from that of the Nine Mortal Realms and the Immortal Realm.

If the awakened demons truly had a way to make the reincarnated bearer of the Heavenly Dao unleash the demonic calamity researched by that Holy Son, then across the vast Taicang Realm, countless awakened demonic disasters would rise in full consciousness. And once that moment arrived, the outcome would essentially be decided. Human cultivators would have no ability to purge the awakened demons. Even if the awakened demons were defeated, they could still easily secure a foothold within the Nine Mortal Realms.

The best possible outcome for humanity would be coexistence with the demon race.

Fang Chen noticed that when Yu Feng said this, the other demons also revealed a trace of shock. This meant that only Yu Feng possessed this information. The other seven did not know it, further proof that Yu Feng’s status was above theirs.

”Can someone like you even intervene in a struggle at this level? What use is knowing all this so clearly?” Yu Feng looked at Fang Chen with cold mockery. ”At most, you’ll take this information back to your sect elders in exchange for some merit. But even they won’t be able to change the fate of the Taicang Realm. It will be crushed.”

”The Shenwang Realm and Fangcun Realm have sent several experts this time, yet you’re so certain Taicang Realm will fall,” said Fang Chen. ”Have you allied with the Demonic Beast Race again?”

Yu Feng felt immediate regret. He shouldn’t have spoken so much just to save face.

That unbearable sensation struck again, almost instantly. He quickly nodded. ”As far as I know, we have indeed made contact with the Demonic Beast Race. Most likely, we will join forces.”

Yu Feng didn’t notice that after he spoke, the other seven awakened demons all showed stunned expressions, staring at him in disbelief.

Fang Chen felt the situation turning grim. The demon race intends to ally with the Fallen Immortals, and now the demons are also joining hands with them... that means the Human Race will have to face four major factions at once...

He had previously discussed the broader situation with Xie Aman and Chen Enxue. They had unanimously agreed that the Demonic Beast Race posed the greatest threat to humanity. At least the demons, due to their method of rebirth by seizing bodies, would not carry out large-scale massacres of humans even if they won. But the Demonic Beast Race was different. Based on all the signs over the years, the Demonic Beast Race had only one pure objective—the complete extermination of humanity.

Now that the demons and the Demonic Beast Race had allied, regardless of whether they would turn on each other later, the current situation in Taicang Realm had already become extremely perilous. The cultivators who came as reinforcements from Fangcun Realm and Shenwang Realm were very likely to be completely wiped out.

”Fellow Daoist Yu, how could you reveal such critical information to him!?” one of the awakened demons exclaimed in shock.

Yu Feng paused briefly, then replied indifferently, ”Wasn’t it you who said it? He already knows enough. Even if he knows this now, what difference does it make?”

Another awakened demon was furious, glaring at Yu Feng. ”The information he knew before was something the Wandao Immortal Sect likely already knew. But even we didn’t know about this alliance with the Demonic Beast Race. Naturally, the Wandao Immortal Sect wouldn’t know either. This matter has a massive impact on the situation in Taicang Realm. By telling him, you’re essentially telling the Wandao Immortal Sect how to guard against us!”

As Yu Feng’s muddled mind started to clear, regret flooded his heart.

Fang Chen nodded. ”This piece of information is indeed very useful.”

With a flick of his sleeve, the remaining awakened demons were also struck by a sealing decree.

He smiled and pressed, ”You awakened demons, if you have any other useful information, you might as well tell me. After all, you’ve already said most of what you should and shouldn’t have.”

Yu Feng and the others stared at him blankly, remaining silent for a long time.

Yu Feng forced a smile. ”You mean those who have fallen into demonic cultivation, right?”

Fang Chen burst out laughing. ”What ’fallen into demonic cultivation’? You’re clearly demons who have awakened memories of your past lives. Do you really think I know nothing?”

”You’ve been lying to us this whole time!?” exclaimed Yu Feng, nearly cursing.

This was completely unlike his usual demeanor, but he no longer cared. Everything about the man before him, from head to toe, even the smile on his face, felt utterly hateful. He wished he could tear him apart just with his eyes and shred him inch by inch!

”He kept giving us hope... making us trade information for that hope again and again...” one of the awakened demons muttered, then laughed bitterly. ”I never thought that one day I’d become a traitor to my own race.”

Yu Feng gritted his teeth. ”If you all hadn’t kept persuading me, I would have died long ago and wouldn’t have revealed so many secrets to him!”

”When did we ever persuade you? The one who kept persuading you was...”

Swish, swish, swish!

Everyone’s gaze fell on one awakened demon.

Thinking back carefully, from beginning to end, it had been this person subtly guiding the conversation, step by step, which led Yu Feng to reveal everything. If not for her timely persuasion at every critical moment, Yu Feng might have chosen to die rather than betray them!

That awakened demon glared at the others. ”Why are you all looking at me? Don’t tell me none of you tried to persuade him?”

”Ye Qinghun... are you a traitor to our race?” said Yu Feng, his tone heavy.

Fang Chen’s expression shifted slightly as he looked toward the rather attractive female cultivator.

”How could I be a traitor to my race!? When I, Ye Qinghun, was alive, I belonged to my race! Dead, I’ll be a ghost of the people of my race!” Ye Qinghun shouted angrily.

”What people of your race? And you still claim you’re not a traitor!?”[1]

Someone immediately caught the flaw in her words and flew into a rage.

”I clearly said ’my demon race’ earlier,” Ye Qinghun argued back.

Yu Feng and the others fell silent, no longer bothering to argue with her. Facts spoke louder than words. Everything was already clear.

”This time, we were outplayed by the two of them. It’s not an unjust defeat. I’m afraid that from the very beginning, Ye Qinghun had already sent word to him, allowing him to prepare an ambush for us,” Yu Feng said calmly.

Fang Chen suddenly looked at Ye Qinghun and asked, ”Are you an awakened demon, or a human?”

”I am a demon!”

Immediately, a searing fire started eating away at Ye Qinghun’s soul, so she quickly changed her words. ”I am human! I am human! I’ve never awakened. I merely seized this body.”

Yu Feng and the others rolled their eyes.

Fang Chen smiled. ”We didn’t know each other before, did we?”

”That’s right, we didn’t. If we had met earlier, this body of mine wouldn’t have been destroyed. But I don’t understand. Why is it that even after my physical body was destroyed, my soul still looks like this? I was clearly a man, yet now I look exactly like the original Ye Qinghun. So who am I, really? Am I Ye Qinghun... or Zhou Wuchang?”

Ye Qinghun lowered her head and looked at herself, confusion evident in her expression.

Yu Feng and the others, however, were utterly shaken.
