Immortal of the Nine Realms

Chapter 1701: There’s Something on Me, Isn’t There?

“What is he doing?”

“I don’t know.”

“Why haven’t you struck yet?”

“He might be setting an ambush. If I strike now, I might fall into his trap.”

“You have a point.”

Wang Zhanqi and the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal whispered quietly not far away.

The two, one wandering soul and a sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal, kept their eyes fixed on Fang Chen’s every move. They saw him standing atop the snowy peak, motionless, as if observing something.

To an onlooker, this behavior truly did seem like he was intentionally setting an ambush.

Wang Zhanqi said thoughtfully, “If there is another sixth-transformation immortal hidden nearby, together with the one on him, that makes two sixth-transformation immortals. It truly wouldn’t be easy for you to kill him.”

At that moment, he saw Fang Chen pull out a jade-green object.

“A Formation Heart? Mine? No, wait!”

Wang Zhanqi was slightly startled. The Formation Heart Fang Chen had taken from him had been fragmented, not nearly this smooth or powerful. That Formation Heart was clearly above standard quality!

Both he and the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal saw Fang Chen toss the Formation Heart from his hand.

When it collided with the void before him, it was as if it had encountered an invisible barrier. The Formation Heart instantly transformed into a liquid flow, spreading across the barrier and extending in all directions.

“This is...”

A look of gravity appeared in the eyes of the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal.

At that moment, Wang Zhanqi finally saw an illusory mountain appear within the void. He instinctively glanced at the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal, who couldn’t see the illusory mountain.

Wang Zhanqi’s gaze toward Fang Chen was filled with solemnity. This person actually knows a seal exists here. He is using the Formation Heart to dissolve the seal...

He had originally intended to have the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal act to stop Fang Chen’s current movements. But then he thought. If the Yellow Spring Road were opened here, wouldn’t he be able to walk the Path of Yin? He could leave through the Floating Pagoda Realm and then send the news back.

With that thought, Wang Zhanqi suppressed the distracting thoughts in his mind and watched Fang Chen’s actions in silence.

Soon, the illusory mountain’s seal was dissolved under the power of the Formation Heart, which had collapsed and returned to nothing.

In an instant, the Yellow Springs Road on Lone Light Star was completely unsealed. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

At that exact moment, the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal noticed something and muttered, ”Interesting. I feel like I can now travel to the Underworld from here. What method did he just use to force the Yellow Springs Road open here?”

As a Ghost Immortal, his perception of the Yellow Springs was extremely keen. The moment the change occurred on Lone Light Star, he sensed it.

Wang Zhanqi said, ”I don’t know. Since we can travel to the Underworld now, take me away quickly.”

At that moment, they heard a creepy laugh.

Who was laughing?

Wang Zhanqi and the sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal looked at each other. Shock appeared on Wang Zhanqi’s face as he stared blankly at the neck of the Ghost Immortal.

Noticing the look Wang Zhangqi was giving him, the immortal squeezed a nervous smile. ”There is something on me, isn’t there?”

He felt a chill on his neck.

A sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal like him, the ultimate embodiment of the yin, should not feel a sense of coldness. Yet, he did. Combined with that sudden, eerily laughter, it gave him an ominous premonition.

”Yes, there is... a small child.” Wang Zhanqi nodded stiffly. ”Don’t move yet. This child is just sitting on your shoulder. Perhaps it’s just an ordinary wandering soul?”

”How could an ordinary wandering soul get close to me?”

The sixth transformation Ghost Immortal slowly turned his head to look to the side.

The next second, he was immediately slapped back.

”A palm print has appeared on your face...”

Wang Zhanqi slowly floated backward, his gaze incredibly wary.

To leave a palm print on the face of a sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal, this ghost child could not possibly be an ordinary wandering soul.

Just as Wang Zhangqi retreated, he noticed that the Ghost Immortal’s eyes had widened as he looked behind Wang Zhangqi.

Wang Zhanqi instinctively turned around, only to see a young man standing behind him, smiling at him with narrowed eyes.

Wang Zhanqi was stunned. ”You... can see us?”

Fang Chen said with a smile, ”The Yellow Springs Road here has opened. You two should not linger in this realm anymore. Come with me to explore the Underworld here.”

He pulled the still-sleeping sugar glider from his chest pocket. ”Daoist Mi Yu, go back and find Old Ji and the others first.”

With that, Fang Chen flicked his wrist, and Mi Yu turned into a streak of light, flying back the way she had come.

In the next moment, a thick white mist instantly submerged one human and three ghosts.

Mi Yu was startled awake from her deep sleep, but Fang Chen was no longer in sight. He only remembered hearing him say to go back and find Ji Gang and the others.

Fang Chen strolled toward the Forgotten River along the weed-choked Yellow Springs Road, playfully teasing the ghost infant as he walked. Wherever he passed, the weeds along the path he walked were erased from existence.

The sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal and Wang Zhanqi followed closely behind, matching his speed. They exchanged occasional glances and one could clearly see over a dozen tiny handprints on the Ghost Immortal’s face.

”Who exactly are you?” Wang Zhanqi finally blurted out, unable to restrain himself any longer.

As a core disciple of the Grand Wei Study, he was a man of vast experience who understood many secrets of the world. Having awakened his memories of the demon race, he had the combined experience of two lifetimes. He had a very thorough understanding of the world and its great powers and circumstances.

Even this defeat only came down to a difference in raw strength. It was something he had foreseen and found unsurprising.

However, ever since this man had unsealed this place, opened the Yellow Springs Road, and summoned a miraculously powerful ghost infant that had beaten a sixth-transformation Ghost Immortal into submission, Wang Zhanqi felt that the situation had spiraled far beyond his expectations.

Fang Chen replied nonchalantly, ”Wang Ye of the Enlightenment God Palace. Didn’t you know that already?”

”You shouldn’t be Wang Ye. Earlier, the members of your expedition team were still calling you Core Disciple Fang,” said Wang Zhanqi, brows furrowing as he shot a resentful glare at the Ghost Immortal.

If the Ghost Immortals of the Motian Division had delivered their intelligence more promptly, he wouldn’t be in the dark about his opponent’s true identity even now.

”Just treat me as Wang Ye,” said Fang Chen, putting an end to the conversation.

Before long, they arrived at the banks of the Forgotten River. Fang Chen looked down into the water. Countless wandering souls were teeming beneath the surface. A massive dark shadow flickered momentarily deep within the river before vanishing.

A faint smile touched Fang Chen’s eyes. He retrieved the Yin Gourd, and with a thought, a young nun flew out from within.

”This is...”

Wang Zhanqi and the Ghost Immortal looked at each other. The former was relatively unfazed, merely thinking that the man had a knack for hiding people on his person. The latter, however, sensed a heart-palpitating aura emanating from Abbess Qing He.

It was an aura even more terrifying than that of the ghost infant.

Upon seeing Abbess Qing He, the ghost infant seemed stunned for a moment before letting out a shriek of delight, lunging forward to cling to her.

Before setting out on the journey, Fang Chen had made one last trip to the Underworld. His primary goal was to collect the centuries of accumulated Yin Lifespan to reinforce the barrier between the two realms. While there, he had brought Abbess Qing He along.

Having such a unique existence that was neither human nor ghost following him would be of immense help for the journey to the Taicang Realm.

”Lord Fang, who is this little baby?” Abbess Qing He asked in surprise, holding the ghost infant up and turning it over to inspect it.

She felt that the aura on this child was quite peculiar.
