Immortal of the Nine Realms

Pei Tu stood up and bowed. ”Greetings, Senior Brother Li.”

Fang Chen also got to his feet. Only the senior sister remained seated, showing no intention to stand. She just smiled faintly and said, ”Old Eight, Junior Brother Fang has already decided to be a Registration Envoy. If you’re going to steal him away, you’ll first have to get past Little Tu.”

”He’s already decided to be a Registration Envoy?” said Li Shanzi with clear regret. ”What a shame. Junior Brother Fang’s talent is so extraordinary. It would have been perfect if he had become a Coffin Sealing Envoy.”

Pei Tu chuckled. ”Senior Brother Li, with so many capable people under your command, why not leave Junior Brother Fang to me?”

He was increasingly sure that Fang Chen’s background was extraordinary. Otherwise, why would Li Shanzi, who had just been promoted, come here so suddenly? After Fang Chen grasped Formation Heart Immortal Technique, his identity and status had changed completely. He was the kind of person who usually wouldn’t bother with trivial matters.

”By the way, where’s Taixu?” The senior sister frowned. ”He’s just taken office, yet he’s not even at the Reincarnation Division?”

”Senior sister, you’re mistaken. He is currently reviewing the list of reincarnated souls. Although the records have already been registered, inspected, and sealed, he still considers this matter extremely important and wants to personally oversee it,” explained Li Shanzi.

”Oh, then it’s fine. Junior Brother Fang is in your hands for now, but don’t assign him anything too important in the first few years. He still needs to focus on his cultivation first.”

The senior sister smiled and nodded before getting up and leaving.

Li Shanzi also stood up to bid his farewell. ”Junior Brother Fang, if you have any questions about the Reincarnation Division, feel free to ask Senior Brother Pei. I’ll take my leave now.”

Once he was gone, Pei Tu smiled and said to Fang Chen, ”Junior Brother Fang, I’ll show you the work of a Registration Envoy and arrange a group of cultivators to assist you.”

Fang Chen smiled and cupped his hands. ”Thank you, Senior Brother Pei.”

Pei Tu led Fang Chen through the Reincarnation Division for a while until they arrived at a large hall.

Inside the hall were rows of long redwood tables. In total, there were thirty three of them. However, only seven tables were occupied at the moment, and each person sitting at them was a core disciple of the Enlightenment God Palace.

In addition to the seven Registration Envoys, there were numerous extra cultivators walking busily around the hall, occasionally holding piles of records in their hands. When the seven Registration Envoys noticed Pei Tu’s arrival, they simply glanced up for a moment before continuing their work.

Pei Tu then led Fang Chen to one of the envoys. Fang Chen noticed that this particular envoy had countless records laid out in front of him. These records contained detailed information about each wandering soul before their death. The envoy would then mark a check next to each record and write a location.

”We send countless wandering souls into reincarnation every day in the Enlightenment Underworld,” explained Pei Tu with a smile. ”The job of a Registration Envoy may seem monotonous, but it actually determines the future fate of these souls.”

Pei Tu continued, ”If they were evil in life, we send them to poor places. If they were good, they’re sent to prosperous lands.”

”My dear Senior Brother Pei,” the Registration Envoy teased, lifting his head. ”Look, with thirty-three of us, we have all this backlog. Only seven are here today. Have the other twenty-six gone on vacation? Or are they fighting in some Ancient Forbidden Area?”

Pei Tu gave a wry smile. ”Junior Brother Zhang, just bear with it for now. I’ve already sent them messages. Once they get the notice, they’ll definitely return.”

After a pause, Pei Tu added, ”Alright, stop your work for now. This is Junior Brother Fang, our new Registration Envoy and a newly promoted core disciple of the Enlightenment God Palace.”

”Really? I heard a Senior Sister Hong just became a core disciple not long ago, and now there’s another junior brother?” one of the envoys said, raising an eyebrow. “Seems like our palace is really thriving.”

The seven envoys immediately stood up and walked over to Fang Chen, cupping their hands in greeting.

The cultivators nearby also stopped, bowing respectfully toward Fang Chen. Among them, a few cultivators were particularly excited. Fang Chen recognized them as Du Rufeng and his group.

The group exchanged introductions. After a few remarks, the seven envoys returned to their desks to continue working. Their work speed was incredibly fast and they could handle hundreds of records in just the blink of an eye.

”Senior Sister said that you should first get familiar with this position. For now, you don’t need to handle any important tasks. Your cultivation is more important. I’ll bring in some cultivators, and you can select one hundred of them to help with the more tedious tasks,” said Pei Tu.

He then ordered for a group of hundreds of cultivators to be brought in. These cultivators were responsible for menial tasks in the Reincarnation Division and had not yet followed any Registration Envoy.

Coincidentally, Du Rufeng and his group were among them. Seeing that, Fang Chen naturally selected them, along with a few others, to form a group of one hundred. Once that was done, Pei Tu took Fang Chen to his residence within the Reincarnation Division, where they spent several hours together before Pei Tu finally took his leave.

In the large courtyard, the one hundred cultivators from the Enlightenment God Palace stood in line. Being in the Enlightenment Underworld meant they were among the best cultivators from the entire Enlightenment Realm.

”Greetings, Core Disciple Fang!” a hundred voices rang out in unison, the sound echoing through the courtyard.

”No need for such formalities,” said Fang Chen with a smile as he raised his hand to gesture for them to stand at ease.

Fang Chen smiled and nodded, then dismissed most of the cultivators, leaving Du Rufeng and a few others behind. The rest were free to go about their business.

”Fang... Core Disciple Fang!” Du Rufeng’s voice held a hint of excitement. ”The moment you became a core disciple, Shaoze came through the Underworld to inform us. I never expected that after so many years in the Floating Buddha Realm, you’d return so quickly and be promoted to core disciple. You’re truly an inspiration to all of us!”

Fang Chen chuckled and shook his head. ”No need for flattery. I’m still getting used to the work of a Registration Envoy. I’ll need you all to help me out to avoid making a fool of myself.”

Du Rufeng immediately patted his chest with confidence and said, ”Core Disciple Fang, don’t worry. We’ve been working at the Reincarnation Division for years and know the ropes here. We’ll handle everything for you.”

Just then, a figure entered from outside the courtyard, walking toward Fang Chen and offered a distant salute. The person exuded a deep and powerful aura and was clearly an Immortal Sovereign.

“Are you the newly promoted envoy, Core Disciple Fang?”

Du Rufeng and his group were startled. They immediately recognized the newcomer as someone closely associated with the Tai Xu Division Monarch.

Fang Chen immediately recognized the man too. It was Ji Gang, Taixu’s first disciple, whom he had met at the Nanqing Constellation Immortal Exchange.

Fang Chen cupped his hands in greeting. ”Yes, that’s me. May I ask who you are?”

Ji Gang replied with a courteous gesture, ”Ah, no need for such formalities. I’m Ji Gang, serving at the side of Division Monarch Taixu. Today, I’ve been sent by him to invite Core Disciple Fang for a discussion.”

”He has requested my presence?”

Du Rufeng and the others exchanged astonished glances, clearly impressed. To be summoned by someone like the Division Monarch was no small matter.

Fang Chen said with a smile, ”Please, lead the way, Fellow Daoist Ji.”

The moment he accepted the invitation, a small but significant thought crossed his mind. The reason Wang Chongsong hadn’t appeared earlier was likely because he didn’t want to cross paths with the senior sister.

Was it to avoid suspicion? Or is there something more to it?

As Ji Gang led Fang Chen away, Du Rufeng and his group couldn’t help but exchange quiet whispers, amazed by how quickly things were moving for Fang Chen. Not only had he risen to become a core disciple, but even the Division Monarch had wanted to meet him. Such a swift rise to prominence was truly awe-inspiring.
