Immortal of the Nine Realms

Fang Chen’s expression shifted. ”This is...”

Before him was what appeared to be a damaged page torn from a book. Countless names were written on it. Among these names, he recognized one—Xie Aman.

”No matter whether you wish to cultivate the Ghost Immortal Path or not, core disciples must leave their true name on this page. You cannot use a false name,” explained Elder Chen, smiling. ”If you use a false name, the mildest consequence is injury and damage to your divine soul. At worst, you’ll die instantly, your soul annihilated.”

”Junior Brother Fang, if you’ve been using a fake name up until this point, you’ll have to use your real name now. This is no joke,” said Senior Sister with a smile.

At that moment, Yin Monarch Tuo looked at Fang Chen. ”With your blood, write your name, and leave a mark on the Book of Life and Death. The Ghost Immortal Path will open for you.”

The Book of Life and Death?

Fang Chen’s expression remained calm, though a ripple of thought stirred within him.

So this is the legendary Book of Life and Death? The ancient Underworld’s ultimate treasure, the prized artifact of Monarch Yan?

If this were real, it could only be a fragment of the Book of Life and Death. At most, it would be a single page torn from the whole.

Where is the rest of the book? Is it intact, or are its pages scattered across the major powers of the Upper Three Realms?

Connecting this with the Divine Furnace, Fang Chen couldn’t help but suspect that the various forces in the Upper Three Realms must have already seized the remnants of the ancient Underworld’s treasures after its destruction in the Floating Pagoda Realm.

”Core Disciple Fang, please proceed,” urged Elder Chen Yuan.

Fang Chen’s expression was a bit strange as he approached the massive, tattered page. He bit his fingertip and wrote his true name in one of the blank spaces on the page.

He was the current Monarch Yan. If this were the Book of Life and Death, it would be a spiritual treasure of the ancient Monarch Yan. What would happen if he left his name on it?

Unfortunately, he could not discern the full effect of the Book of Life and Death. If he understood its purpose, he might also be able to predict most of the events that would follow.

[Fang Chen]

After writing his name, Fang Chen stepped back to stand beside the other three. He felt no injury, nor did he experience any immediate danger. Elder Chen Yuan and Yin Monarch Tuo nodded in satisfaction.

That meant that Fang Chen had not used a false name when joining the Enlightenment God Palace. From the very beginning, he had been forthright. This earned him their trust.

Elder Chen Yuan smiled. ”If you had used a false name earlier, there wouldn’t have been any immediate consequence, as long as you correct it now. We wouldn’t pursue the matter further, but whether it would leave a bad impression on the Palace Master is something we can’t say.”

The Palace Master?

Fang Chen felt a surge of curiosity. The only nine-transformation immortal in the Enlightenment God Palace. However, he had no idea where his Dao Domain was located.

Is it located within the Enlightenment Star, or somewhere else entirely?

Yin Monarch Tuo’s eerie laugh filled the room. ”Hehe, now that you’ve written your name down, you can begin cultivating the Ghost Immortal Path. Can you feel the surrounding Yin Qi becoming something you can refine and absorb? By absorbing this Yin Qi, you’ll be able to cultivate Yin Lifespan to live for countless years.”

As everyone prepared to leave, the broken book page suddenly erupted with a terrifying surge of Yin Qi.

The four of them immediately stopped and turned to look. To their shock, the name Fang Chen had just written began to slowly fade away, dissolving completely until it vanished without a trace.

Elder Chen Yuan was stunned. ”What’s going on?”

As an elder and an Ancient Immortal who had lived for an incredibly long time, almost long enough to retire and seek the Ghost Immortal Path in the Underworld, he had never witnessed anything like that before.

Monarch Yin Tuo’s expression turned serious. He suddenly cast a sharp, cold glance at Fang Chen.

”Write your name again.”

”Understood.”

Fang Chen nodded and stepped forward once more, preparing to write his name again.

After a while, the book page erupted with a terrifying wave of Yin Qi once again, erasing Fang Chen’s name off the page.

”Strange... truly strange.” Yin Monarch Tuo couldn’t help but look at Fang Chen. ”I’ve been stationed here for many years, but I’ve never encountered something like this. Either one uses a false name, and the book retaliates, or one uses their true name, and the Ghost Immortal Path opens. But why can’t your name leave a mark on the Book of Life and Death?”

Fang Chen was left confused. ”I don’t know either.”

Perhaps it’s because I’m the current Monarch Yan?

Yin Monarch Tuo’s expression became serious. He turned toward Elder Chen Yuan. ”This matter may need to be reported to the Palace Master.”

Elder Chen Yuan furrowed his brow. After a long pause, he nodded. ”Indeed, it should be reported to the Palace Master.”

”Senior, will this affect me in any way?” asked Fang Chen.

”It won’t have much impact. You just won’t be able to go on the Ghost Immortal Path,” Yin Monarch Tuo said, his eyes filled with a hint of sympathy.

Senior Sister suddenly let out a light laugh. ”That’s no problem.”

Elder Chen sighed. ”It’s not a big issue. As long as you don’t die tragically at the hands of others, you’ll be fine. If you die, you’ll just become a regular wandering soul. Beyond that, as long as your cultivation continues to improve, your lifespan will be extended. However, eventually, you will face your end and won’t be able to return to the Enlightenment Underworld to protect the Enlightenment God Palace.”

Senior Sister smiled and tugged Fang Chen along, ready to leave. ”Let’s go. We’ll arrange your position now.”

Yin Monarch Tuo glanced at Elder Chen Yuan and whispered, ”Keep a close eye on this child. When something is abnormal, there’s always a reason.”

”I understand.”

After they left the Ghost Immortal Tower, Senior Sister began to introduce Fang Chen to the various divisions within Enlightenment Underworld.

”We don’t have many divisions here, but you’ve probably passed through the Underworld in the Lower Six Realms before, right? You must have seen various divisions in the Lesser Underworld?”

”Yes, I’ve been through it. In the past few years, there have been quite a few new divisions added there.”

The senior sister smiled lightly. ”Mm, that place used to be chaotic, with no real leadership. But now someone has stepped in to take charge. It seems they plan to run things properly. But don’t worry about it too much; those divisions aren’t worth much. In the Enlightenment Underworld, we have six main divisions: the Nether Guard Division, the Judgement Division, the Demon Refining Division, the Soul Capturing Division, the Reincarnation Division, and... the most powerful Central Division.”

”You can choose whichever division you’d like to serve in, but since you’ve just joined, your rank won’t be very high.”

”Any division I want?” Fang Chen was surprised. ”No procedures to go through?”

”Little Xie is the Division Head of the Central Division. All the procedures have to go through her. If she’s not around, another Yin Monarch will handle things. You’ve seen her, we call her ’Old Seven.’”

Elder Chen laughed. ”So now, you can choose any division you like.”

Fang Chen didn’t expect the senior sister to be so influential in the Underworld.

Could it be that Wang Chongsong’s plan involves leveraging her? But that seems unlikely. She does have a good relationship with Wang Chongsong, but she doesn’t seem to be involved in his schemes. She would definitely not agree to help him or let him use this place for his own purposes.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Fang Chen casually said, ”I’d like to serve in the Reincarnation Division.”

The senior sister nodded with a smile. ”The Reincarnation Division? That’s easy.”
