”Wait! Sensei is a user of body reinforcement magic! Fighting head-on with a sword is…”

”No problem. Ruby, stay back.”

”B-but…!”

Ruby said looking worried.

In front of such her eyes, the male teacher grinned.

”Fufufu… Do you think a first-year who can’t even use body reinforcement magic can win against this me?”

”…Who knows? That won’t be clear until we fight.”

Rigel drew his sword from the scabbard.

Then he readied it.

”Hoh… The stance alone is solid. It also looks as if you’re used to fighting. However, in the end it’s wasted effort.”

The male teacher readied his sword.

Such his eyes became sharp.

”Then… Here I go!!”

In the next instant, the male teacher’s figure disappeared.

Moving at a speed the eye could not follow, he attacked from behind Rigel.

”Haaaah!!”

”Oops.”

Rigel turned behind with quick reaction speed.

The male teacher’s sword grazed the tip of such his nose.

”…Hoh?”

When the male teacher narrowed his eyes, he again readied his sword.

To such him, Rigel said.

”That one strike just now… was rather something. Even though you’re finding it troublesome, it shows you’re serving as the advisor of the Swordsmanship Club.”

”That’s kind of you. However… this much is something the teachers of this academy can do as a matter of course.”

The male teacher grinned.

Then he again circled around behind Rigel.

”Ha!!”

This time, a sharper slash than earlier assaulted Rigel.

But Rigel had seen through even that.

”What…!?”

”Here.”

”Gua!?”

The male teacher raised a voice of surprise and knelt on the spot.

At his nape was Rigel’s sword.

”Match over… isn’t it.”

”Kh…! Impossible…!! That this me… would lose to trash who can’t use magic…!”

The male teacher bit his lip looking frustrated.

With the sword still pointed at such his nape, Rigel said.

”Sensei… You seem to look down on those who can’t use magic as ’trash’… but you should revise that thinking.”

”W-what…?”

The male teacher’s face distorted in anger.

Without caring, Rigel continued.

”You saw my movements just now, right? Without even using body reinforcement magic, with only bare physical ability and technique I was able to overwhelm Sensei. In other words, there are also those who possess combat power above ordinary humans even without using magic.”

”Th… that’s…”

The male teacher choked.

Rigel pointed the sword at such his nape.

”I would like you to stop looking down on Ruby just because she can’t use magic. She is living earnestly. If you properly guide her… she will surely be able to become a wonderful swordswoman.”

”U… Gu…!!”

The male teacher floated a frustrated face.

To such him Rigel said.

”Sensei… You are the advisor of the Swordsmanship Club, and I will become its new member. From now on please take care of me.”

”U… Uu… I-I understand…”

The male teacher floated a frustrated expression.

When Rigel turned his back to him, he said to Ruby.

”Alright… With this I’ve been able to become a new member of the Swordsmanship Club.”

”…Ah.”

To the blank Ruby, Rigel directed a smile.

In this way, Rigel succeeded in infiltrating the Swordsmanship Club.

One week had passed since Rigel entered the Swordsmanship Club.

”Ha!!”

Rigel swung his sword.

That one swing was sharp, and fast.

”Gua!?”

”Match over… isn’t it.”

Rigel’s sword was pointed at the nape of the opposing club member.

Around such him, ten Swordsmanship Club members had collapsed.

(Hmm… As expected, against swordsmen without body reinforcement magic, I don’t feel a threat in one-on-one.)

Rigel thought inwardly.

In this one week, Rigel had crossed swords with the members of the Swordsmanship Club many times.

But he never used body reinforcement magic even once.

Even so, he was able to overwhelm the other club members.

There was the difference that Rigel was ”intentionally not using” while the other members were ”unable to use even if they wanted to.”

But in a comparison of swordsmanship skill it was unrelated.

Rigel was purely overwhelming others with swordsmanship without magic.

”Next. Anyone is fine.”

Rigel said quietly.

In front of such him, one club member stood.

”…Next is me!”

The one who shouted that was Ruby.

When she readied a longsword, she closed the distance all at once.

(…Hmm)

Rigel parried Ruby’s attack.

The next attack as well, the one after that and the one after that as well…

”Haa… Haa…!!”

While gasping for breath, Ruby continued swinging her sword.

But all of it was being parried by Rigel.

”…Is it already over?”

”Kh…!”

At Rigel’s words, Ruby gritted her teeth looking frustrated.

At such her nape, Rigel’s sword was pointed.

”Match over… isn’t it.”

”U… Uu…”

Ruby groaned looking frustrated.

To such her, Rigel smiled.

Then he declared.

”It’s fine. Your sword skill is rather something. If you train you will definitely be able to become strong.”

”…Really?”

Ruby tilted her head.

To such her, Rigel said.

”Of course. I’ll guarantee it.”

”I see…!”

A smile floated on Ruby’s face.

Toward such her, Rigel asked.

”By the way… Ruby. Why did you enter this Swordsmanship Club?”

”…?”

Ruby tilted her head.

Into her ear, Rigel whispered.

”Tell me honestly. Your eyes are serious. It doesn’t look as if you’re just casually swinging a sword.”

”…!!”

Ruby opened her eyes wide.

Then, as if resigning herself, she said.

”I… want to become strong.”

”…Hmm.”

Rigel thought deeply.

To such him, Ruby continued.

”I’ll conceal the family name, but I was born into a lineage that was granted a peerage for sword techniques.”

”I see… A title holder.”

At the Royal Academy there are many promising youths.

Many of them are children of nobles or great merchants who have received advanced education from early childhood.

Ruby was apparently also so.

Although inquiring about others’ status or showing off one’s own status within the academy is prohibited…

In this way, speaking about oneself is no problem.

Ruby continued.

”That’s right. I grew up mastering proper swordsmanship… but…”

Ruby’s expression clouded.

Toward such her ear, Rigel said as if whispering.

”The usefulness of swordsmanship is being questioned, and your house is about to be abolished… or something?”

”…!? W-why do you know that!?”

Ruby was surprised.

Rigel grinned.

”This level of deduction is a trivial matter. Looking at your ability, earnestness toward training, and usual demeanor.”

”I… see… Adding a clear mind to swordsmanship, as expected…”

Ruby floated an expression as if understanding.

At such her nape, Rigel’s sword was placed.

”U…!?”

Ruby involuntarily distorted her face.

To such her, Rigel said.

”Let me hear it. You want to become strong. For that purpose, you entered this Swordsmanship Club. Right?”

”Th-that’s right…!”

Ruby nodded.

While pointing the tip of the sword at her chin, Rigel continued.

”Do you have the resolve to endure strict and harsh training in order to become strong?”

”I have!”

Ruby answered immediately.

At such her reply, Rigel smiled.

”…Fine.”

Saying that, Rigel sheathed his sword.

To such him, Ruby said.

”So… What should I do? I want you to give me training right away, but…!”

”Don’t rush. Things have an order.”

”But…! Until the match between the Swordsmanship Club and the Flame Magic Club begins, there aren’t even 10 days left!”

Ruby desperately appealed.

Match.

A kind of event held between club activities of the Royal Academy.

It is a team match of elimination in which three people from each club participate, and a system where a portion of the budget of the defeated club is absorbed by the victorious club.

That match card differs by year.

This time a practice match between the Swordsmanship Club and the Flame Magic Club will apparently be held.

There is no clear superiority or inferiority between swordsmanship and magic itself.

If Rigel handled swordsmanship he could be invincible, and if he used magic mass slaughter was also possible.

However, as the actual state in the club activities of the Royal Academy, the Swordsmanship Club was a weak club where those who could not even use body reinforcement magic gathered.
