The Shadow of Great Britain

Chapter 1231: Chapter 146: The Neighboring Prime Minister Grows Up (Part 2)

As soon as Bismarck heard Schublan mention him being beaten up by Arthur, his face turned red and his neck thickened: ”Gustave! If you think you can take him down, you can challenge him anytime! He’s just upstairs at the inn now. Do you want me to call him down for you?”

When Schublan heard Bismarck mention calling the School Director down, he immediately stopped him: ”Otto, I’m not as out of my mind as you. Challenging the School Director to a duel, losing means going to the hospital, winning means a few weeks in the school’s confinement room.”

Bismarck rolled his eyes and said: ”You really think you have a chance to get to the confinement room? How many times do I have to tell you to believe it, he’s really not someone to mess with. Although he’s a jerk, his character and swordsmanship are unrelated, and he’s a genuine Fiore Style Italian Swift Sword master. Did you know? That well-known Paris Sword Saint Francois Bertrand lost miserably to him!”

”Hmph...” Schublan didn’t believe Bismarck’s words: ”The French Foil is just a flashy show, the Paris Sword Saint might not be all that great either.”

Bismarck argued: ”But he’s not using the French Foil, he’s using the Italian Swift Sword, and besides that, he’s also quite good with the England Silver Flow Short Sword Skill and the British Military Saber. I’m not exaggerating when I say he could defeat most people in ’Pomerania’ even with his pointy cane.”

Schublan heard Bismarck’s exaggerated words and thought he was just trying to save face for himself: ”Yeah! Not to mention his cane, just seeing him in his School Director’s robe, I’d be scared enough to throw down my sword and surrender, yet you could withstand a few rounds under his cane, which is indeed better than many in ’Pomerania’.

Bismarck saw Schublan’s attitude and knew it was unlikely he could persuade him.

If it were on a normal day, even if he had a good relationship with Schublan, Bismarck would still at least leave a few marks on his jaw for this level of sarcasm.

But after all, his status was different now, as the Student Union President, Bismarck desperately needed to recruit more people for the Gestapo.

If he sent those small-town students to carry out the tasks assigned by the Hastings School Director, who knew what kind of trouble would arise. But if these ’Pomerania’ club brothers were willing to help, everything would become much easier.

”Enough, let’s not talk about this.” Bismarck said: ”Gustave, do you remember what I just said?”

”What? The big plan?”

”Yes, that’s right, that one.”

Bismarck extinguished his pipe, cleared his throat, and said: ”Gustave, in ’Pomerania’, you are a well-respected master, and that’s due to your exceptional swordsmanship. But, if you graduate, leave Gottingen, leave us brothers, will others respect you? Will you still enjoy being called ’Light Sword Schublan’? Don’t be silly, in society, people don’t call each other ’Light Sword’ and such, they call each other ’Minister’ ’Director’ ’Judge’ ’General’ and so on.”

”I...” Schublan was immediately stumped by Bismarck’s question, and his former composure in mocking Bismarck vanished, replaced by awkward head scratching.

Actually, Schublan had considered the issues Bismarck mentioned.

He was a year ahead of Bismarck, so it wouldn’t be long before he had to face employment issues.

But like Bismarck, even though he could barely handle his studies, he wasn’t someone who could immerse himself in research.

Therefore, even without considering the difficulty of obtaining a university teaching position and the necessary impoverished life before becoming a professor, Schublan couldn’t pass on the dedicated attitude and exceptional learning ability.

If he couldn’t pursue an academic path, then direct employment was the only option left.

But the worrisome thing was: although there weren’t many university students in Germany, there were even fewer positions suitable for them.

If he went straight into employment, the jobs he might get could easily be done by high schoolers.

In that case, what was the point of going to university at all?

After thinking it over, Schublan finally pursed his lips and said: ”I think I’ll probably join the military. I’m good with a sword, and I have knowledge. I could start from a lower-ranking officer and then slowly climb up. Maybe, decades from now, when we meet again, you’ll have to call me Chief of Staff.”

Bismarck saw through Schublan’s insecurity: ”Come on, you know what the military is like, don’t you? Even those with ’von’ in their names like me aren’t specially favored, because my ’von’ is only plated with copper, while some others’ are plated with silver, and some are not only plated with gold but also embedded with diamond edges. If someone with von like me can’t guarantee making a name in the military, what about someone without ’von’ like you?”

Upon hearing this, Schublan became somewhat irritated: ”What can I do then? And, Otto! Weren’t you going to talk about your big plan? Is your big plan to flaunt the ’von’ in your name to my face?”

Bismarck quickly waved his hand: ”Sorry, Gustave, I didn’t mean to hurt you, I was just stating a fact. If not for that, why would you have the patience to listen to my big plan?”

”So, what exactly is your big plan?”

”My big plan starts with my life plan.”
