System Anomaly: The Sin of Greed[LitRPG/Prog Fem/Anti-Hero]

The air inside the Labyrinth of a Thousand Amethyst Crypts (Level 30-36) smelled of freshly shattered mineral quartz and the metallic chill of compressed arcanum.

The galleries were monumental. Six-meter-wide corridors sliced through colossal blocks of purple amethyst emitting a faint, steady luminosity, sufficient to illuminate the party’s advance without needing torches.

Diana walked at the center of the formation, keeping her [Aura of Arcane Domain] and [Commander’s Loot] active within her 15-meter radius.

Behind Kael’s 630 hit point wall, the squad penetrated the labyrinth’s first sector at a methodical pace.

With every chamber crossed, hordes of Amethyst Gargoyles (Level 30) and Dark Crystal Specters (Level 31) collapsed under the rain of the team’s synchronized attacks.

Kael absorbed the claw impacts with his Volcanic Shield, Aurelia-Elysia covered openings with swift barriers from her staff, Rhea executed energy cores with Agility 82, and Diana pulverized mobs with chained spells fueled by Intelligence 115.

The group’s raw combat efficiency was undeniable.

However, to Diana’s sharp eyes, driven by her 58 Perception points and her [Command Eye] spell, minor operational frictions were beginning to stand out in the squad’s dynamics.

Chamber Eight - Diagnosing the Bottlenecks

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

The clash in the eighth chamber brought those bottlenecks to light.

A horde of six Dark Crystal Guardians (Level 31) emerged from the depths of a vaulted crypt, brandishing heavy stone maces.

Rhea, propelled by her Agility 82, used [Phantom Step] and shadow-blinked fifteen meters forward to decapitate the casting specter in the enemy rear. The kill was flawless and instantaneous.

However, the fifteen-meter distance Rhea opened caused two mace-wielding guardians to spin around and flank her.

Kael, whose Agility was merely 8 points, was forced into a heavy, clumsy sprint with his Volcanic Shield to get within the ten-meter range of his [Iron Taunt].

That abrupt sprint from Kael created a momentary gap in the frontline:

Aurelia-Elysia, positioned just two meters behind the vanguard’s shield, found herself suddenly exposed to a spray of crystal shrapnel fired by another monster. Her Dragon Robe’s automatic mana shield absorbed the impact, but the priestess nearly lost concentration on a [Protection Barrier].

At the same time, Kael slammed his shield into a stone guardian’s chest. Physical impact reflected damage, but the amethyst’s inorganic density suffered insufficient mechanical stun, requiring Diana to spend an emergency [Arcane Ice Lance] to chill the rock before the monster could land a counterstrike on Kael’s arm.

Diana cleared the rest of the room with an [Arcane Storm Orb] and [Greed’s Flame], obliterating the guardians in an explosion of purple sparks and ash.

Tactical Pause in the Safe Niche

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Diana didn’t advance to the ninth chamber immediately.

She raised her left hand, signaling the squad to stow their weapons and step into a natural crystal alcove outside the monsters’ patrol route.

Kael rested his shield against the amethyst wall, taking deep breaths from the sprint’s exertion. Rhea wiped her dagger blades with a dry cloth, and Aurelia-Elysia organized mana vials on her belt.

Diana crossed her arms over her Dragon Chestplate, fixing the three with a clinical, objective gaze.

—Here comes the Commander’s lecture… The System’s voice resonated in Diana’s mind, floating in amused black gold. I admit you’re right: the wolf girl is running way too fast and the big guy looks like a turtle trying to keep pace with a lightning bolt.

Diana ignored the System and focused on the group.

“Our damage efficiency is high, but we have three tactical bottlenecks that will cost us dearly if we face a Level 34 Boss further ahead.” Diana declared, her voice calm and precise.

The three straightened their posture instantly, listening with full attention.

“First bottleneck: Rhea’s engagement distance.” Diana looked at the hybrid girl. “Rhea, your Agility is 82. Kael’s is 8. When you use Phantom Step and hurl yourself fifteen meters out, you force Kael to break his shield stance to run after you and pull monster aggro.”

Rhea lowered her silver ears slightly, embarrassed. “Sorry, Diana… I got carried away with the speed of the new daggers…”

“No need to apologize, you need to adjust your radius.” Diana said in a firm tone. “Your infiltration limit from now on is a maximum of eight to ten meters from Kael’s shield arc. You attack from the formation’s flanks, never beyond Iron Taunt’s line of sight.”

Rhea nodded firmly. “Understood! Eight to ten meters!”

Diana turned to the priestess.

“Second bottleneck: Aurelia-Elysia’s positioning.” Diana continued. “You have 550 MP points and a crystal staff projecting barriers twenty meters out. There’s no reason for you to cling to Kael’s back. Maintain an eight-meter retreat in the rear. That way, no heavy impact area shrapnel will disrupt your casting concentration.”

Aurelia-Elysia adjusted her robe hood, agreeing immediately. “Understood, Commander! Eight meters safety distance!”

“Third bottleneck: Elemental rotation against stone armor.” Diana looked at Kael. “Amethyst monsters have natural resistance to physical blunt damage. Kael, don’t attempt shield strikes before my spell. Standard rotation will always be: I fire Ice Lance to create thermal shock and crack the crystal, you apply Taunt and impact strike onto the fracture, and Rhea executes the exposed core.”

Kael slammed his gauntlet onto his heavy armor chestplate. “Flawless, Commander! Thermal shock first, shield impact after!”

The Perfect Machine in Action

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

The test of the new tactical adjustments took place from chambers ten through fifteen.

The difference in combat speed and fluidity was extraordinary.

When the party entered the twelfth chamber, inhabited by four Lesser Amethyst Colossi (Level 32), the new rotation ran like a well-oiled machine:

Aurelia-Elysia positioned herself eight meters back in secure rear cover, projecting stable barriers without taking interruptions.

Diana unleashed two Arcane Ice Lances freezing the colossi chestplates into a brittle crust. Kael pressed forward with his Volcanic Shield, driving steel into the frozen fracture with [Unshakeable Stance], shattering the molten rock in seconds.

Rhea stayed within eight meters of Kael’s radius, using Phantom Step in short, lethal arcs to decapitate the monsters the second Kael’s shield opened the gap.

Not a single hit point was lost. Not a single spell was wasted. The entire party’s mana consumption plummeted by forty percent.

—Incredible… The System commented in Diana’s mind, the interface glowing in black gold with genuine approval. You turned a good squad into a perfect dungeon-grinding machine with just ten minutes of conversation.

By the end of the fifteenth chamber, the group reached a hall isolated by deactivated stone gates, where a spring of pure underground mineral water gushed from a crystal fissure.

It was the perfect spot for the First Subterranean Camp.

Kael and Diana pitched the two magical soundproof, thermal-insulated tents in the center of the hall, while Aurelia-Elysia prepared the mana stove with hot water and Rhea gathered the accumulated loot from the first fifteen rooms.

Thanks to the passive +30% Commander’s Loot bonus, the coin harvest from monsters and mini-elites in the first sector yielded 8 Pure Silver Coins and dozens of high-purity amethyst fragments.

Inside the magic tent illuminated by a soft lantern, the squad dined on concentrated nutrition pills dissolved in hot medicinal herb broth, seated on soft carpets.

Kael checked his shield joints, Aurelia-Elysia reviewed the intact potion vials, and Rhea drew on the labyrinth map the routes of the first conquered sector.

Diana took a sip of her hot broth, feeling her team’s perfect stability and the calm pulse of her Intelligence 115.

The bottlenecks were fixed. The machine was tuned. And the path toward Level 35 pressed steadily into the depths of the Amethyst Labyrinth.
