When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: The General’s Little Pampered Wife 18

The Crown Prince, Xiao Shen, and the others deliberated for a long time before finally settling on a solution.

Meanwhile.

Ji Xiaosong, once again, didn’t wake until the sun was high in the sky.

Xiao Shen had left the previous night and still hadn’t returned, but Ji Xiaosong was used to it.

’A man’s work is important, especially when it’s a matter of life and death.’

Stretching lazily on the bed, Ji Xiaosong called for Rongrong.

”I’m going into my space to check on the maturity of the crops. You keep a lookout for me. There are too many prying eyes around here, after all. I’m afraid someone might barge in and realize I’ve vanished.”

[Don’t worry and go on in. I’ll keep watch for you out here.]

A soft light flashed, and Ji Xiaosong’s figure instantly vanished from the bed as she entered her personal space.

As soon as she entered the space, Ji Xiaosong made a beeline for the farmland.

All the crops in the fields were ripe. The golden ears of wheat hung heavy, their plump grains looking as if they were about to burst from their husks.

The napa cabbage leaves were thick and fleshy, wrapped tightly around their hearts.

The mustard greens were lush and verdant, ready to be picked for pickling.

The radishes poked more than halfway out of the soil, looking adorably plump and white.

Overjoyed, Ji Xiaosong casually pulled up a radish, wiped it on her clothes, and took a bite. It was crisp, sweet, juicy, and utterly delicious.

”Not bad, not bad. I just need to remove all the Spiritual Energy, and it can pass for grain from Prince Qi’s stores, no problem.”

With a thought, she harvested all the grains, fruits, and vegetables in the space and piled them on the ground to one side. Only then did Ji Xiaosong exit the space.

[So, how was it, Song? Have all the crops in your space ripened?]

”Of course. The growth cycle was surprisingly short. The supplies I have in my space are enough to sustain Xiao Shen and his army for at least a month.”

[Oh, right. I was floating above the camp last night and heard Xiao Shen and the others planning a nighttime raid on Prince Qi’s granary for tonight. Do you want to add your supplies to the mix to ensure their raid is a success?]

”Of course, that was my plan as well. During my time in the Northern Sky these past few days, I’ve already removed all the labels from the things I purchased, so even if Xiao Shen and his men investigate, they won’t find much.”

Rongrong and Ji Xiaosong hatched a simple plan: she would wait for Xiao Shen’s unit to depart, then head directly to Prince Qi’s granary to lie in wait.

As night fell, Xiao Shen led a troop of elite soldiers, slinking toward Prince Qi’s granary like ghosts.

Ji Xiaosong and Rongrong had already hidden themselves in the shadows near the granary.

She watched the deployment of guards around the granary, silently calculating.

She had scouted the area earlier and knew of a weak point in the defenses at the rear of the granary.

An idea struck her. Ji Xiaosong took a flint from her robes and lit a small pile of dry grass she had prepared earlier.

The fire flared up instantly, sending out plumes of thick smoke.

”Fire! Fire!”

The guards on duty spotted the smoke immediately, and a number of them broke away to run toward the blaze.

Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Shen immediately led his men in a charge toward the granary’s main gate.

Scouts had already determined that this was the only entrance. To get the provisions, they had to go through here.

However, the main gate was still heavily guarded, and the two sides instantly erupted into a bloody clash.

Hiding in the shadows, Ji Xiaosong felt her anxiety mount.

[Song, aren’t you a plant spirit? Can’t you make plants grow? I see a few thorny vines behind you. If you could entangle those guards of Prince Qi right now, wouldn’t that create an opening for Xiao Shen?]

”If I had the power to sprout that many vines right now, why would I even need to grow so much food in my space? I’d just grow it directly out here, wouldn’t I?”

’It’s not that I don’t want to do something that simple.’

No!

’It’s because I can’t!’

’If I were powerful enough to challenge heaven and earth, I wouldn’t have ended up as a human traveling through countless worlds.’

’Even for Immortals, the punishment is to descend to the mortal realm and live as a human, not as livestock. That just goes to show how hard it is to be a mortal.’

Still, she wasn’t discouraged. ’My Mana might be low now, but that doesn’t mean it will be forever.’

’As long as I complete my missions, I’ll become powerful one day.’

[Sigh. I guess I really can’t count on you.]

”It’s fine. I’m worried, but look—Xiao Shen is truly a brilliant fighter. His martial arts are superb. Those men can’t even withstand a single blow from him.”

Ji Xiaosong’s eyes were fixed on Xiao Shen as he fought amidst the firelight and the glint of blades. He was agile, his sword moving like a flowing dragon, each swing carrying a fierce momentum and decisive killing intent.

It was only then that she realized this husband of hers, who was always so gentle and considerate, was such a brave and fearless hero on the battlefield.

Just then, Xiao Shen let out a furious roar, once again repelling a wave of enemy attacks. In Ji Xiaosong’s eyes, his figure seemed to grow taller, becoming like an insurmountable mountain.

Xiao Shen fought with ever-increasing valor, and his soldiers, inspired by his example, felt their morale surge. The guards gradually found themselves unable to hold their ground.

Finally, Xiao Shen successfully breached the main gate and led his unit into the granary.

They began moving the provisions swiftly and methodically.

However, just as they were about to finish, Prince Qi’s reinforcements arrived, swarming in like a tide.

Xiao Shen immediately commanded his soldiers to form a defensive line and prepare to meet the enemy.

Watching from the shadows, Ji Xiaosong was frantic with worry but dared not make a move.

Prince Qi’s soldiers were shouting, their advance full of menace.

Xiao Shen, his face devoid of fear, shouted, ”Brothers! If we can secure these provisions today, it will be a great victory! For our country, for our people, give it everything you’ve got!”

The soldiers roared in unison, their voices shaking the heavens.

The two sides clashed in close-quarters combat, and the battle was exceptionally fierce.

Xiao Shen led the charge, weaving through the enemy ranks. His sword was a blur of motion, felling Prince Qi’s soldiers wherever he went.

But Prince Qi’s reinforcements were numerous, and Xiao Shen’s men were gradually backed into a corner.

At this critical juncture, an idea suddenly struck Xiao Shen.

He ordered a group of soldiers to feign a retreat, luring Prince Qi’s men into a narrow passage.

Once Prince Qi’s soldiers were inside the passage, Xiao Shen led the rest of his men in an ambush from both sides. Battle cries erupted all around.

Prince Qi’s soldiers were thrown into chaos, unable to coordinate their front and rear lines.

Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Shen had his team redouble their efforts to move the provisions. They successfully evacuated the granary with the supplies just before Prince Qi’s soldiers could regroup.

Only after Xiao Shen and his men had successfully retreated did Ji Xiaosong finally breathe a sigh of relief.

She and Rongrong used the cover of night to fly back toward Xiao Shen’s tent, carefully avoiding any routes where enemy soldiers might be present.

All the way back, Ji Xiaosong’s heart was still pounding from the intensity of the battle.

[Song, be careful. Don’t make any noise when we get there.]

Ji Xiaosong nodded and slowed her pace.

After a nerve-racking journey, they finally arrived near Xiao Shen’s tent.

Ji Xiaosong first scanned her surroundings. After confirming no one else was around, she gently lifted the tent flap and slipped inside with Rongrong.

Xiao Shen had people watching her day and night, but she had still found a way to untie a corner of the tent, allowing her to slip out and back in.

Once inside the tent, Ji Xiaosong changed her clothes and lay down on the bed, but her mind refused to quiet down for a long time.
