Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 24 - 24 Jungle Exploration Activity

The other side almost instantly initiated a video call with him.

Why does she love video calls so much... Luckily, Xu Xin had already freshened up after getting up, so he accepted the call directly.

”Did you really kill a beast? Thatʼs so strong! Did you really dare to go out in last nightʼs situation?”

It was that energetic voice again, the screen showing Li Wenxi dressed in a noviceʼs two-piece outfit. Her curvy figure and long, white legs made Xu Xinʼs eyebrows twitch a bit.

Goodness, so unguarded early in the morning, showing a full-body shot directly.

The noviceʼs two-piece actually looked pretty good.

”I got lucky; they fought each other, and I reaped the benefits,” Xu Xin replied casually. ”So, do you want it? Trade it for blue materials.”

”You want my blue materials in exchange for your white backpack?” Li Wenxi put her hands on her hips, looking displeased. ”Now the novice protection period is over, beasts are out, and there are ways to obtain beast skins. Do you think itʼs worth it at such a high price?”

It seemed she was indeed interested in the backpack, but she felt the price was too steep.

”Donʼt forget todayʼs event called ʼJungle Exploration,ʼ which will definitely have resources that werenʼt available in the past three days. You wouldnʼt want to carry things with your hands like before, would you?” Xu Xin spoke knowingly, aware of how convenient the backpack was. It wasnʼt just about reducing weight—being able to put large items into this small backpack and free up your hands was the most important aspect.

”Hmm...” The little beauty furrowed her brows. She still felt it was too expensive, even though she had quite a few blue-quality stones and ores. But she just peeked into the mine without going very deep and heard more than just some animal snoring inside. At least until she could chase away or kill the beasts in the cave, these blue resources would be used up one by one.

”Youʼre... youʼre taking advantage of the situation! This white backpack will definitely be plenty once today is over! People canʼt beat lions and tigers but surely can deal with rabbits and such!” Li Wenxi tried to argue.

”You wouldnʼt want to encounter resources during the exploration and have to give them up because you canʼt carry them, right? How about this: two pieces of blue stone, two pieces of blue iron ore, and Iʼll give you the backpack along with a red berry and two kilograms of bear meat.” Xu Xin coaxed her.

”...You actually killed a bear!”

After last nightʼs beast tide, some strong individuals managed to obtain some things. Even without a crafting table, they could make wooden sticks and hammers, which, although were basic blunt instruments, had damage potential comparable to Xu Xinʼs stone spear when wielded by powerful hands.

At this point, the trading platform was no longer as monotonous as it was before the novice protection period ended. Meat products had been listed, and Xu Xin also put up wolf meat that was gnawed by a bear, with a note asking for green or blue resources in exchange.

Even so, the trading platform didnʼt yet offer backpacks and beast skins for sale.

It was easy to understand—even if someone did obtain broken beast skins, those with a crafting table would prioritize making backpacks for themselves. Those without a crafting table wouldnʼt sell materials that only appear for the first time. Those who could seize benefits during the beast tide obviously wouldnʼt be so foolish.

However, Xu Xin saw a callout from someone named ”Ji Chaoyang” in the regional channel, saying he had a crafting table. If anyone had beast skins but no crafting table, they could message him privately for help in crafting backpacks. Itʼs uncertain if anyone believed him, as outsourcing requires the buyer to hand over the raw materials first, and without trust, no one would agree to that.

Upon seeing the added bonus, Li Wenxi was instantly tempted. She had already witnessed the effect of the red berry last night, which was extraordinarily good, making night and day almost indistinguishable. Torches attracted beastsʼ attention, while the red berry completely eliminated this concern. Given her situation, offering just two of each was acceptable.

”How much do you think I can sell the backpack for on the trading platform?” Xu Xin added more pressure.

”Deal!” Li Wenxi made the decision and sent the trade offer directly.

[The other party initiated a trade with you, exchanging blue stones *2 and blue iron ores *2 for a repaired white backpack *1, large red berry (blue) *1, and green bear meat 5kg]

”Hey, two kilograms of bear meat, why are you asking for five kilograms?” Xu Xin looked somewhat speechlessly at the little beauty on the screen, whose face flushed as she turned her head and whistled.

Xu Xin shook his head helplessly and clicked agree. After all, he did have a bit of an opportunistic approach; though he could indeed sell the backpack on the trading platform, others werenʼt as wealthy as this little rich lady. It was essentially a case of having value but no market.

Giving her a little advantage was no big deal; he had plenty of bear meat anyway.

The little beauty on the other side looked a bit displeased at the patched-up and ugly backpack she held: ”Hmph, if I donʼt find some good resources today, Iʼll curse you tonight!”

Xu Xin laughed lightly but before he could say anything, she suddenly screamed.

”Wow! Whatʼs that? Itʼs so cute!” On the screen, Li Wenxiʼs eyes widened, her whole body practically leaning on the screen.

Xu Xin looked down and saw that Keke had climbed onto his lap, rubbing its eyes with its small paws, not fully awake yet. Hearing Li Wenxiʼs scream startled it, and it whimpered, staring blankly at the screen ahead.

”You, you, you! You actually have a little raccoon!” Li Wenxi was envious; even Xu Xinʼs enormous treehouse had only made her slightly envious, thinking it was impressive, but now she was truly envious enough to go crazy.

”Itʼs a red panda,” Xu Xin corrected, lifting Keke up and waving its little arm. ”Come on, Keke, say goodbye to sister!”

With that, he was about to end the video call.

”Wait, you...”

The video call was cut off. It was almost nine oʼclock, and Xu Xin didnʼt want to explain a bunch more things to the other side.

On the other side, Li Wenxi looked at the screen where the video had exited, blinking her wide eyes. A surge of emotion welled up inside—she had never been hung up like this before!

Moreover, that little creature was just too adorable!

She was about to call back when a voice rang out.

[Dear survivors, the first reward event, the Jungle Exploration, is about to begin!]

[Next, we will introduce the eventʼs content. Please listen attentively, survivors.]

[Within a three-kilometer radius around each personʼs treehouse, there are three treasure chests: bronze, silver, and gold. Each chest contains resources exclusive to that chest, which can only be obtained inside.]

[The bronze chest can be opened directly, the silver chestʼs key is inside the bronze chest, and the gold chestʼs key is inside the silver chest.]

[The goal for survivors is to find these three treasure chests, obtain exclusive resources, enhance the treehouse and the survivor themselves, and increase the survival rate for the next impending danger.]

[Friendly reminder: Do not explore areas outside three kilometers from the treehouse, or terrifying things will occur.]

[This reward event lasts from 9:00 today until 18:00 tomorrow.]

[Donʼt dawdle, as the bottom fifty survivors in terms of resource value obtained during the event in each region will permanently leave this beautiful world.]

[Are you ready, survivors?]

[The Jungle Exploration event begins now!]
