She Used Me for a Dare… Now I Own Her Mother

Chapter 569: Let the Wolves Come

The elevator doors slid shut, sealing away the muted hum of the upper floors. As the numbers began their smooth descent toward the ground level, a faint, satisfied smile curved Alex’s lips.

He looked down at the heavy leather folder in his hand. With a simple thought, a faint ripple blurred the air around his fingers, and the folder vanished into thin air, safely stored inside his System inventory.

Tonight had yielded far more than just the foundation for Eclipse Holdings. If he played his cards right over the next seven days, he wasn’t just securing a prime piece of real estate... he was locking in a Middle Stage Ascended powerhouse.

And Cole wasn’t merely a terrifying weapon in combat; he was a seasoned veteran who had spent decades navigating the ruthless waters of high-level business. Having an asset like that under his banner would solve months of organizational headaches in a single stroke.

Of course, there was one minor detail.

On that terrace, he had looked Cole dead in the eye and boldly claimed he knew every name, motive, and hiding spot tied to his son’s murder.

In reality, he didn’t know a single detail yet.

A quiet, amused chuckle left Alex as he watched the elevator display tick downward. It didn’t worry him in the slightest.

He still had Catherine. With her standing and the vast underground reach she commanded, unearthing the truth behind a five-year-old cold case wouldn’t be an issue. Besides, her private auction was coming up in just a few days anyway... the perfect opportunity to cash in a favor and put her network to work.

Ding.

The chime echoed softly as the lift eased to a halt on the ground floor.

The polished doors slid open, and Alex stepped out into the grand lobby. Warm light from the massive crystal chandeliers spilled across the immaculate marble floor, reflecting off his shoes as he strolled toward the main exit with an unhurried, steady pace.

As he neared the reception counter, the young receptionist sitting behind the desk happened to glance up. The moment she recognized him, her eyes brightened instantly.

She quickly set down her pen, smoothed her uniform, and hurried around the counter toward him with a wide, cheerful smile.

”Leaving so soon, sir?” she asked, her voice bright and welcoming. ”How did your meeting go? Did everything turn out well?”

Alex slowed his stride, offering her a relaxed, effortless smile.

”Better than expected,” he said, tapping the folder lightly with two fingers. ”Everything went smoothly.”

Her smile widened, genuinely pleased by his answer.

”I’m so glad to hear that! Please make sure to visit us again soon, sir. Have a safe trip back and a wonderful night!”

”Good night,” Alex replied with an easy nod.

Leaving the blushing receptionist behind, he pushed through the revolving glass doors and stepped out into the cool, refreshing evening air.

Near the grand entrance, the two uniformed doormen remained stationed at their posts, backs straight and hands neatly folded. As Alex approached, both men dipped their heads in a sharp, respectful bow, one of them extending an arm to signal his car waiting in the VIP lane.

Alex offered a faint nod in return. He walked over to his sleek vehicle, pulled open the door, and slid into the leather interior. The solid thud of the door closing instantly shut out the muffled city noise, enveloping the cabin in tranquil silence.

Settling back against the headrest, Alex exhaled a slow, relaxed breath, finally letting the coiled tension bleed out of his shoulders.

A soft, melodious chime resonated in his mind, followed by Lilith’s playful, velvety voice echoing in his thoughts.

”Congratulations, Alex. You survived your very first dance with an Ascended Realm powerhouse.”

A quiet, self-deprecating chuckle left Alex’s lips as he tilted his head back against the cool leather.

”Thrilling doesn’t even begin to describe it,” Alex replied inwardly, a wry smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. ”More like dancing along the edge of a razor.”

?On the surface, he had played the part of the unfazed prodigy to perfection. But only he knew the sheer agony of holding that mask together.

?When Raymond’s emotions had spiraled... the sudden flare of murderous grief, the raw, suffocating fury of a father mourning his butchered son, swiftly replaced by the cold, paranoid scrutiny of a wounded predator.

For three agonizing seconds, it felt as though his lungs were collapsing, suffocating from a sheer lack of oxygen while a mountain pressed against his chest. He had endured it through sheer, stubborn willpower, banking entirely on the fact that his poker face wouldn’t crack before the old man reined it in.

”I have to admit, even I didn’t expect you to walk out with the deed on your very first try,” Lilith purred, her tone dripping with amused fascination.

”I was just lucky,” Alex replied with a quiet, dry chuckle.

?Alex knew the old fox hadn’t trusted a single word that came out of his mouth.

?Handing over the deed without even haggling over the price wasn’t an act of surrender—it was a weaponized gamble. For months, the Three Families had been circling Cole like starving hyenas, tightening the noose around his neck and waiting for him to break.

?If Alex was just an arrogant kid riding high on an empty boast, the three families would rip him apart before the week was out.

?But if Alex survived the onslaught? If he stood his ground against three prominent clans for seven straight days? Then his claims were real, and Cole would finally have an ally capable of crushing the monsters who murdered his family.

?A cold, razor-sharp edge crept into Alex’s thoughts, his fingers tightening slightly against the steering wheel.

?’He thinks he’s tossing me into a lion’s den to see if I can swim,’ Alex thought, a ruthless smirk touching his lips. ’He doesn’t realize he just gave me the stage I’ve been looking for. If those three families think they can take what’s mine, I’ll carve Eclipse Holdings into that district with their blood. Whether they accept my presence or not, that building belongs to me.’

Alex’s lips curved into a faint smirk.

”Alright, let’s close the first half of the deal. Lilith, transfer the funds for the property directly into Raymond Cole’s account. Full market valuation, plus the premium.”

A soft, familiar chime echoed inside his mind as a translucent blue interface unfurled across his vision.

He didn’t hit ’YES’ just yet.

His sharp eyes swept across the details of the notification, confirming every hidden variable.

His finger tapped the glowing [YES] on the virtual interface.

The blue screen rippled like disturbed water, the characters dissolving into golden embers before violently reassembling themselves in a cascade of brilliant light.
