The Archmetamagician: The Weave Collapses Again

Poison attacks are a very unique type of damage, including magical toxins and biological toxins, and sometimes also inflicting conditions such as poisoning or paralysis.

They do not belong to any element and can only be resisted through Constitution.

Without relevant resistances or equipment, one would die miserably—just like these kobolds.

Anser raised the magic telescope to his eyes and cautiously observed the surrounding environment, but found no danger or abnormalities.

Bluewater City was almost empty, with only some elderly and weak people remaining, along with a group of individuals dressed in blue robes searching for something everywhere.

”Who are they?” Iris frowned slightly.

”The Order of Blue Fire, a cult organization. Last night they kept hovering around the battlefield collecting dragon blood.” Anser pointed toward the group in the distance that was handling the wyvern corpses as he spoke.

Strictly speaking, all of that should be the spoils of that bald bigshot; the Order of Blue Fire was taking it without being told.

Iris shot them a sidelong glance and continued flying forward. ”Ignore them for now. Where was the final battlefield?”

”The bay, by the docks.” Anser extended his hand and pointed downward.

The magic flying carpet descended in altitude and hovered several dozen meters above the sea surface.

After half a day had passed, the color of the seawater had already returned to normal and was basically no longer poisonous. However, fish-men corpses floated along the shore one after another, which looked somewhat horrifying.

In the bay, several small boats drifted back and forth. The people aboard them were also dressed in blue robes, as if afraid others would not recognize them.

’The green dragon probably didn’t die,’ Anser inferred.

If the green dragon had died, the wyverns and half-dragons would certainly not have retreated; they would only have launched frenzied retaliation, striving to demonstrate loyalty so as to avoid being held accountable by the green dragon queen.

Therefore, the green dragon most likely suffered severe injuries and retreated under the escort of the half-dragon commander and the wyvern guard.

If that was the case, the man named Stoll was probably in grave danger.

Iris had thought of this as well, and a trace of coldness appeared in her eyes.

She turned to look at Anser, the wand in her hand silently pointing downward. ”Your turn.”

”Ah, I’m the one diving in to search?” Anser said in surprise. ”Isn’t there some kind of magical mark to track and locate?”

”If there were, why would I need you?” Iris shifted her gaze and gestured toward the telescope in his hand.

”Got it.” Anser sighed inwardly. Having taken the money, he had to resolve the trouble—besides, he did not want to delay any longer.

He stowed the telescope away, leapt forward, and plunged headfirst into the water.

The instant he entered the water, he had already transformed into a half-dragon. This state was even stronger than Alter Self’s ”water adaptation”—not only could he breathe freely, his dragon eyes could also see underwater.

The dock area was huge and not easy to search. Just as he was thinking about where to start, he ”smelled” the aura of a true dragon.

’Dragon blood!’

Dragon blood contained extraordinary power. It was said that killing a great dragon—or witnessing a great dragon’s death—might grant a draconic bequest, allowing one to grasp abilities unique to dragonkind. Bathing in dragon blood also had a chance of gaining a dragon’s power.

’It might be flesh or hide that fell off the dragon. I’ll follow it and see.’ Anser inferred.

With all his senses fully open, his long tail swayed as flexibly as a fish’s as he rapidly tracked the scent of dragon blood, and before long he had gone deep into the bay.

At a certain moment, a trace of green appeared on the seabed ahead. The texture of the scales was clearly visible. His heart jolted—he immediately stopped and held his breath.

After quite a while, the green scales still did not move at all.

He quietly approached. The green area grew larger and larger. It was not the shattered scaly flesh he had expected, but a long, slender tail.

’No way, no way—could it be badly wounded and dying, or already dead here?’ He could not help but feel his heart pounding in alarm.

He continued swimming along the tail, keeping a bit of distance, not daring to touch it rashly.

A few seconds later, a tall figure appeared. He was straddling the dragon tail, his waist and back straight, his head slightly lowered.

Anser’s heart skipped. He moved around to the front and found that the dragon tail had been severed. A bald man held a sword in both hands, still maintaining the downward-stabbing posture. The blade was deeply embedded in the flesh and bone of the severed cross-section, and there were obvious tearing marks along the edge of the dragon tail.

His armor was tattered beyond repair, his skin ashen, veins bulging on his face. His eyes were wide open, filled with indignation and unwillingness.

’He’s dead!’

Anser stood quietly before him for a long time, his emotions indescribably complicated.

Death was a warrior’s destination, but if one failed to kill the enemy, how regrettable would that be?

However, his battle record was absolutely not poor. Severing an adult green dragon’s tail with a single strike was a scene many warriors would not even dare dream of.

’I don’t know if there’s still any saving him.’

Anser did not delay any longer and tried to drag the dragon tail, but it did not budge in the slightest.

This section of tail was six to seven meters long and extremely thick. With his arm span, he could not wrap his arms around it at all, and it was difficult to exert force underwater.

He had no choice but to try to pull the bald man instead, but the man’s hands were clamped tightly around the sword hilt and could not be pried apart.

’Can’t damage the corpse.’

After thinking it over, he revealed his dragon claws and chopped downward along the direction of the blade. But the dragon bone was hard. After struggling for more than ten minutes, he finally managed to pull the greatsword out.

Anser first set the man off to the side, took out the Rod of Security, and placed several magic power marks on the dragon tail. Then he activated the rod and forcibly teleported the dragon tail to Holrewen.

Seawater rushed in to fill the void left behind when the dragon tail vanished, forming a small whirlpool behind him that buffeted him until he swayed unsteadily.

’It’s not that I’m greedy—I really can’t drag it.’

He found an excuse for himself, then circled the area again. Finding nothing else, he grabbed the corpse with one hand and floated up to the surface.

Iris spotted the commotion from afar and drove the flying carpet in low over the sea surface, stirring up ripples in its wake.

When she saw the corpse, her expression went blank. She stared fixedly at the man’s face, and an inerasable sorrow rose in her purple eyes.

After a long while, she pressed her lips together. She did not say a word, only forcefully hauled the corpse up onto the flying carpet.

The man’s corpse was very stiff—perhaps he was in the stage of rigor mortis, or perhaps it had something to do with being a classed professional. In any case, once he was laid down, his body could not be stretched out. His legs were set like he was holding a horse stance, and his hands held the sword against his chest.

On top of that, the flying carpet was very small. After the corpse was placed on it, Iris and Anser could only sit sideways on the other side, their legs hanging off the edge.

The flying carpet began to climb slowly. Compared to before, its speed was reduced by a large margin.

It was a bit overloaded.

Those blue-robed people at the docks kept their distance from the flying carpet from far away, behaving themselves—no provocation, and no intent to intercept either.

After Anser and Iris had flown far away, the blue-robed people hurriedly took boats to that stretch of sea. One after another, they jumped into the water—their purpose was self-evident.

Anser felt something was off. Could it be that the Order of Blue Fire had discovered that sorcerers’ blood was unstable, and had shifted their target onto draconic creatures instead?

Ever since hearing that the Order of Blue Fire was hunting sorcerers, he had regarded them as a potential enemy. But up to this point, those people indeed had not come to trouble him, nor had he heard of any famous sorcerer dying at their hands.

Considering that Iris was somewhat unsettled right now, he did not want to invite trouble. The two sides simply crossed paths like this.

Watching Claw Bay recede into the distance, Anser felt that the Emerald Kingdom would return. Even if the green dragon queen had no interest, that tail-severed green dragon would not be able to swallow this grievance.

’I wonder if a great dragon’s severed tail can grow back?’

He was rather curious what a tailless green dragon would look like—probably very ugly.

While he was on the way, the people in Holrewen were stunned by the dragon tail that suddenly appeared in the plaza.

Especially those three hundred kobolds who were repairing the plaza’s stone slabs. Once they saw the dragon tail appear out of thin air beside them, they were so frightened they collapsed on the spot, trembling like chaff in a sieve.

They were natives of the Emerald Plains and often saw green dragons, but precisely because they had seen them with their own eyes, they were even more terrified.

Even their master had been chopped—there was utterly no hope left in their ”dog lives,” and they did not dare let even the slightest stray thought arise.
