The City’s Strongest Son-in-law

Chapter 947: Chapter 946: So What If We Change Our Family Name?

In fact, Shangguan Sichen’s subordinates had already reported to him that his grandson, Shangguan Xuanjie, had been killed by Su Changfeng. However, he felt no sorrow in his heart, nor did he blame Su Changfeng. He believed that Shangguan Xuanjie’s death was insignificant now. After all, it was his own overestimation of his abilities that led him to seek trouble with Su Changfeng; not dying would have been unusual.

Now Shangguan Sichen was ready to implement the plan to make Su Changfeng the head of the Shangguan Family. No matter how convoluted the process, no matter what demands Su Changfeng might have, Shangguan Sichen would agree to them all.

Shangguan Sichen was fantasizing about the future glory of the Shangguan Family when suddenly there was a noise outside.

”Come in,” Shangguan Sichen said, putting away his smile and speaking in a commanding tone.

Shangguan Wenchuan pushed open the door. His capabilities were, after all, limited, so naturally, he received the news later than Shangguan Sichen. He had only just learned about Shangguan Xuanjie’s death at Su Changfeng’s hands. Upon hearing this, he was immediately shocked and hastily came to find Shangguan Sichen, wanting to see what his attitude was.

If Shangguan Sichen didn’t care at all about Shangguan Xuanjie’s life or death, he would immediately abandon the idea of opposing Su Changfeng and would even try in every possible way to ingratiate himself with Su Changfeng.

Even if he couldn’t become the head of the Shangguan Family, at least he wouldn’t be directly ousted. If that were to happen, he would be left with nothing.

”Grandfather, I heard from my subordinates that Shangguan Xuanjie is dead,” Shangguan Wenchuan said fearfully.

”Didn’t I warn him before? But he refused to listen. Now that he’s dead outside, who can he blame?” Shangguan Sichen said calmly, as if it wasn’t his own grandson who had died.

Upon hearing this, Shangguan Wenchuan shuddered. Even though he had suspected that Shangguan Sichen already knew about it and might say something like that, he still found it hard to accept when he heard it with his own ears.

Although Su Changfeng had some blood relation with the Shangguan Family, there were many in the family who found it difficult to accept making Su Changfeng the head of the Shangguan Family.

”Grandfather, even if Su Changfeng’s surname is Ye and ours is Shangguan, do we really have to make him the head of the Shangguan Family?” Shangguan Wenchuan asked.

”What do you think? In my eyes, as long as Su Changfeng is strong enough to bring unparalleled honor to the Shangguan Family, I don’t really care what his surname is. If Ye Changfeng is willing, I would even willingly change the Shangguan family name,” Shangguan Sichen said.

But a knot formed in Shangguan Yan’s heart; Shangguan Sichen’s words had surprised him too much.

Suggesting that the Shangguan Family change their surname to Ye was simply ridiculous.

”Grandfather, I plan to leave for the Capital City. If you have anything you want me to convey to Su Changfeng, you can tell me now. Once there, I will fully support him,” Shangguan Wenchuan said helplessly.

Now Shangguan Wenchuan understood that his status in Shangguan Sichen’s heart couldn’t compare to Su Changfeng’s. From Shangguan Sichen’s attitude, it was clear that the head of the Shangguan Family had to be Su Changfeng. Since he couldn’t obtain the position himself, he had to hold on to what he had.

Shangguan Sichen was somewhat surprised to hear Shangguan Wenchuan say this, as he expected him to be like Shangguan Xuanjie.

Fortunately, Shangguan Wenchuan was much more perceptive than Shangguan Xuanjie.

”You are indeed more perceptive, child. Let me tell you, ingratiating yourself with Su Changfeng is not shameful. As long as Su Changfeng is able to enter there, it means new opportunities for the Shangguan Family. Although you won’t be the head of the family, if you get in Su Changfeng’s good graces, your future will be limitless, perhaps even surpassing the position of the head,” Shangguan Sichen reminded him.

Shangguan Wenchuan bowed slightly to Shangguan Sichen and said respectfully, ”Thank you for the advice, Grandfather. I will make sure to build a good relationship with him this time.”

”Very well, if there’s nothing else, go prepare yourself,”

Shangguan Wenchuan nodded, took his leave from Shangguan Sichen, and pushed the door open to leave.

From the time he entered until he left, Shangguan Wenchuan’s mood had undergone a dramatic change because when he went in, he was still worried about preserving his status. But Shangguan Sichen’s words had completely enlightened him.

He also realized why Shangguan Sichen was so eager to court Su Changfeng, even at the expense of giving him the family head position—it was to ensure the better development of the Shangguan Family. If Su Changfeng could enter Tuo Shi, then establishing a good relationship with him would make the position of head of the Shangguan Family pale in comparison. He would only gain more.

”Shangguan Xuanjie, I should thank you. Perhaps you didn’t expect things to develop to this point. If you were still alive, we might still be fighting against each other. Now that’s no longer necessary,” Shangguan Wenchuan said with a smile.

After Shangguan Wenchuan left the study room, Shangguan Sichen took up the phone to contact someone.

”The time is about right; let them meet. Now they are ready to head to the Capital City,” Shangguan Sichen said.

At this moment, in the Cowpen District of the Capital City.

Three weeks had passed, and the entrance to Su Changfeng’s house was still crowded with people, all holding gifts. However, despite so many days passing, there was no sign of Su Changfeng. Yet, this long wait hadn’t bred any resentment or impatience among the scions of noble families.

After all, to them, no matter how much effort was spent or time wasted, as long as they could meet Su Changfeng and establish a connection, it would all be worth it.

”An Shiwen, tell those people outside to disappear from our doorstep. If they don’t leave, they will bear the consequences,” Su Changfeng instructed An Shiwen.

An Shiwen was quite amused on hearing this. Those heirs had waited for over twenty days, and now Su Changfeng didn’t even want to see them and was ordering them to leave. He was really curious about their reactions.

”Brother Changfeng, should we let a few of them in?” An Shiwen asked cautiously.

”Are you trying to be like them and get yourself kicked out as well?” Su Changfeng replied indifferently.

An Shiwen initially intended to play some tricks, but hearing that Su Changfeng might issue an order for his expulsion too, he dared not act rashly and nervously said, ”Brother Changfeng, I’ll tell them to leave right away.”
