The City’s Strongest Son-in-law

Chapter 918: Chapter 917: The Mastermind

In truth, Su Changfeng had carefully considered who was behind this. The first person that came to mind was Kong Yafei, given that besides Ye Litian, Kong Yafei was the most suspicious. But Ye Litian certainly wouldn’t dare confront him now.

”However, the Kong Family is already in a dire situation, and Kong Yafei can hardly handle these matters. Yet, he somehow found time to abduct Yue Qingshan. He must have received help from others; otherwise, he absolutely doesn’t have the capability,” Yue Fei said.

”I thought the same, which is why I came to find you,” Su Changfeng said.

Su Changfeng thought, if Kong Yafei didn’t have help, how could he possibly have the power to kidnap Yue Qingshan? After all, there are many Zhou Family bodyguards around Yue Qingshan. Moreover, Kong Yafei shouldn’t be foolish enough to think he could handle things alone.

So Su Changfeng believed that Kong Yafei dared to act this way because someone was supporting him from behind.

”Su Changfeng, do you realize that recently, this area hasn’t been peaceful? A lot of well-trained assassins have arrived,” An Yufei said.

”Well-trained assassins?” Su Changfeng furrowed his brow slightly. He truly didn’t know about this, as he was in a foreign land with little influence.

”From my experience, it’s likely they’re after you. The mastermind behind these assassins might be the one supporting Kong Yafei,” An Yufei said.

Initially, An Yufei didn’t plan to directly tell Su Changfeng about the assassins. He wanted to give his nephew An Shiwen a chance to perform well—having An Shiwen send help when Su Changfeng was surrounded, thus earning Su Changfeng’s gratitude.

However, since Su Changfeng had proactively sought him out and mentioned Yue Qingshan’s kidnapping, he couldn’t continue delaying.

The mastermind of the assassins?

Su Changfeng was contemplating who could be behind this, spending so much to have him killed.

His mind raced with possibilities until one person suddenly came to mind—Shangguan Xuanjie. Because Shangguan Xuanjie had contacted him just a few days earlier under false pretenses.

Thinking of Shangguan Xuanjie, Su Changfeng realized who was behind it. Other than Shangguan Xuanjie, he couldn’t think of anyone with such deep hatred for him. His death would greatly benefit Shangguan Xuanjie, who was eager for him to die soon.

An Yufei noticed Su Changfeng’s expression and understood he had figured out who was behind it. ”Now you probably know who’s orchestrating this. Things become much clearer. We just need to find the mastermind to rescue Yue Qingshan without a scratch.”

Su Changfeng nodded slightly and calmly said the name: ”Shangguan Xuanjie.”

”Telling me this is pointless because it’s not my area of expertise. You should directly ask An Shiwen to check the hotel guest registrations; I believe we will soon have leads,” An Yufei said.

Now An Yufei was paving the way for An Shiwen again. Although Su Changfeng had expressed he didn’t want to be Mr. Wu’s direct disciple, as long as the matter hadn’t been settled, there was still hope. An Yufei felt Su Changfeng would eventually agree—it’s just a matter of time.

Following this, Su Changfeng hurriedly contacted An Shiwen, instructing him to immediately check the hotel records.

Shangguan Xuanjie probably hadn’t considered that his clever plan to use Kong Yafei as a tool to kill Su Changfeng and watch the drama unfold would backfire and expose him.

Meanwhile, Shangguan Xuanjie sat in a lavish hotel, savoring a cup of tea with a confident demeanor.

In Sister Shangguan’s eyes, he was a person who could orchestrate grand plans. With a single word, there would be someone to execute on his behalf. With Kong Yafei as a pawn, he didn’t have to lift a finger; even if Kong Yafei’s actions were exposed, it would just be a vendetta against Su Changfeng, unrelated to him. Nobody knew.

”Having Kong Yafei as a pawn is really quite beneficial; I don’t even need to act myself. I just need to enjoy the drama, and the better the show, the happier I’ll be. Anyway, they’ll never trace it back to me,” Shangguan Xuanjie said, grinning.

”Su Changfeng is so short-sighted, he’s no match for you. By becoming your enemy, he’s practically asking to die,” an assassin beside Shangguan Xuanjie said.

Shangguan Xuanjie had paid a hefty sum for this assassin, tasked not only with assassination but also with pleasing him.

”I like hearing that. What capabilities does Su Changfeng have? He imagines he can compete with me?” Shangguan Xuanjie said disdainfully.

”That’s for sure. Su Changfeng’s only bit of luck was associating with Shangguan Jia’s blood, but it’s just a hint. How can he compare to you?” The assassin flattered Shangguan Xuanjie.

Shangguan Xuanjie nodded in satisfaction, thinking Su Changfeng was indeed incredibly presumptuous.

”If I had Ye Nianhai in my hands, I’d torture him to death, making sure Su Changfeng saw it—to show him the consequences of crossing me,” Shangguan Xuanjie said, hating Su Changfeng deeply enough not to spare even a child.

Back then, Su Changfeng’s entry into the Shangguan Family was under his subordination. Su Changfeng only had the fortune of joining the Shangguan Family because of him; without his lead, Su Changfeng couldn’t have entered.

Su Changfeng was previously just one of his subordinates, yet now, he brazenly aims for the position of the Shangguan Family’s master, which fills Shangguan Xuanjie with jealousy. This jealousy drives Shangguan Xuanjie to wish for not just Su Changfeng’s death but to see him tortured to a fate worse than death.

”If you intend to kill Ye Nianhai, it’s not impossible; I can send people to inquire about his whereabouts,” said the assassin beside Shangguan Xuanjie.

Though Shangguan Xuanjie indeed wanted to kill Ye Nianhai, especially in Su Changfeng’s presence, it was just a thought.

Currently, Su Changfeng was protected by Shangguan Sichen’s people, so even if Shangguan Xuanjie wanted to confront Su Changfeng, he couldn’t openly do so. More importantly, he dared not lay a hand on Shangguan Chen’s subordinates.

”Let him go for now; maybe another opportunity will arise in the future,” Shangguan Xuanjie said, feigning magnanimity.

The assassin beside him knew full well Shangguan Xuanjie said this because he lacked the guts to provoke Shangguan Sichen, thus secretly looking down on Shangguan Xuanjie.
