The City’s Strongest Son-in-law

Chapter 448: Chapter 449 Liu Lili Was Fired

”What are you looking at? Get lost, there’s nothing to see.” The leader shouted at the neighbors outside.

Although many people in the village are kind-hearted, most adopt the attitude of keeping their distance when not involved, and this time Liu Lili offended those thugs, who clearly don’t want to get involved because of Liu Lili.

The crowd gathered at the door quickly dispersed, but it wasn’t long before rumors spread throughout the village about why Liu Lili was beaten.

Some said Liu Lili was a mistress outside, and the man’s wife found someone to beat her up.

Others said Liu Lili often stole things at work, got fired by her boss, but the boss was still angry and hired someone to hit her.

Though the countryside’s economic level isn’t great, the level of rumor-making is top-notch, even though it never really happened, they spoke as if it were true.

Before long, various versions of the rumors spread all over the village.

After beating Liu Lili, those people got into their car and left.

Liu Lili lay in her small courtyard, unable to stand up. Before those people left, they warned her that if she dared to say a word, they would target Chen Qingqing, making Liu Lili afraid to even think of revenge.

Tears streamed down her cheeks, Liu Lili wiped away the tears and slowly crawled to the door, using all her strength to close the gate.

Liu Lili didn’t want the villagers to laugh at her. Since her husband’s death, they constantly called her a whore, saying she relied on deceiving men to support Chen Qingqing.

Over the years, Liu Lili tried to prove her innocence, but now she understood that no matter how hard she worked, she could never clear her name; after this incident, there would definitely be more rumors.

Su Changfeng and Tang Qiulu slept until the afternoon before waking up. Tang Qiulu felt much better; when she saw Su Changfeng, she blushed as red as if she were drunk, noticing that he was holding her.

”Awake?” Su Changfeng asked.

Tang Qiulu shyly bowed her head and said, ”I haven’t slept so soundly in a long time.”

Su Changfeng smiled and asked, ”If you think sleeping like this is peaceful, I’ll hold you every night from now on.”

Tang Qiulu didn’t respond, but nodded slightly, fortunately allowing Su Changfeng to understand her meaning.

”I’m hungry,” Tang Qiulu said.

”I’ll ask Aunt Liu to make something to eat,” Su Changfeng said, getting out of bed and opening the door to leave.

Entering the living room, Su Changfeng saw Sun Mei and Sun Wei. Normally, Liu Lili should be cleaning.

”Mom, where did Aunt Liu go?” Su Changfeng asked.

Sun Mei deliberately turned her head aside and said, ”Liu Lili said there’s something urgent at home, left in a hurry, and isn’t working here anymore.”

Su Changfeng’s brow furrowed instinctively. If Liu Lili really had something urgent, she would have told him first. Leaving so hurriedly meant something must have happened.

Su Changfeng didn’t speak, he took out his phone to call Liu Lili, but her phone was off, causing anger to build up in his heart.

Su Changfeng could easily guess that Sun Mei had something to do with Liu Lili’s departure, but couldn’t figure out why Sun Mei targeted Liu Lili.

During her time at their house, Liu Lili was hardworking and never caused any harm or trouble.

”I’ll find out what’s going on,” Su Changfeng said and headed straight to the kitchen.

Sun Mei’s expression became stiff, even though she had someone threaten Liu Lili, if Su Changfeng sought her out personally, she couldn’t stop it.

Sun Mei hurried into Tang Qiulu’s room, locking the door behind her.

”Mom, what are you doing?” Tang Qiulu asked, confused.

”I’ve fired Liu Lili. Go tell Su Changfeng not to dwell on this matter,” Sun Mei stated.

”Fired?” Tang Qiulu looked at Sun Mei in shock, saying, ”Why did you fire Aunt Liu? Did she do something wrong?”

”No, I just purely don’t want to see her,” Sun Mei said.

Liu Lili was hired by Su Changfeng, and only he could dismiss her. Tang Qiulu also had a good impression of Liu Lili.

During her time there, Liu Lili did her job well without any faults.

”Mom, you should bring Aunt Liu back. Why fire her for no reason?” Tang Qiulu said.

Bring her back?

Unless Sun Mei’s head was slammed by a door, she wouldn’t do that. If Liu Lili returned, the matter of Su Changfeng being beaten by Sun Gui would be revealed.

”Qiulu, I’m your mother. Do I not have the right to decide on dismissing someone?” Sun Mei asked angrily.

”This isn’t about whether you can fire someone. You can’t be so unreasonable. If Aunt Liu really did something wrong, I wouldn’t say anything about her dismissal. But Aunt Liu’s been hardworking and did everything well; I don’t agree with you firing her.” Tang Qiulu said firmly.

Sun Mei gritted her teeth and said, ”Are you planning to go against me for Liu Lili, a nanny? Do you think I’m less important than a nanny?”

”Don’t make trouble for nothing. This matter doesn’t even relate to what you’re saying, and Aunt Liu was brought by Su Changfeng. You can’t dismiss her without his consent,” Tang Qiulu said.

”In your eyes, it’s all about Su Changfeng, with no regard for how your mom feels. I raised you with all my effort, yet you think I don’t compare to Su Changfeng!” Sun Mei’s eyes started to redden, playing the victim in front of Tang Qiulu.

But Tang Qiulu was used to her behavior and said, ”Think whatever you want; I’m not taking your side on this.”

”Fine, you’re planning to tear this family apart. Tang Qiulu, don’t regret it.” Sun Mei said angrily, pushing the door and leaving.

Tang Qiulu sighed helplessly. It’s just a small matter; it can’t tear the family apart, can it?

In the kitchen, Su Changfeng fried two sugar-coated eggs for Tang Qiulu, and upon returning to the room, noticed Tang Qiulu looking sad and asked, ”What’s wrong?”

”Did you know mom fired Aunt Liu He?” Tang Qiulu said.

”I’m afraid it’s not as simple as firing her,” Su Changfeng noted.

Unless there’s some reason, why would Sun Mei suddenly fire Liu Lili? We must find Liu Lili to understand what happened.

”Do you mean it involves someone else?” Tang Qiulu asked.
