Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 2309: Seek Destiny

The journey to find the retired elder proved to be a formidable challenge.

Julianʼs last encounter with Grand Magus Marius had been over a decade ago during his visit to the Nephilim world. The elder had made a significant impression on him, but tracking down Mariusʼs most recent whereabouts was far from straightforward.

Surprisingly, Athena chose to accompany Julian on this quest. Her assistance was invaluable, helping him navigate the complex web of Nephilim bureaucracy and overcoming various obstructions. She was determined to help Julian not only find Marius but also to persuade him to offer his aid.

”Why are you helping me? Whatʼs your goal here?” Julian asked, still skeptical of her motivations.

Athenaʼs answer was tinged with sincerity. ”Aside from what I believe to be the will of the Nephilim gods, I just want to prove that not all Nephilim are bad.”

For a few weeks, Julian and Athena journeyed across multiple planets, their search seemingly in vain. Each attempt to locate Marius only led them to more dead ends. Just as they were about to lose hope, they were unexpectedly contacted by the elder himself, who had managed to track them down.

To Julianʼs surprise, Grand Magus Marius revealed that he, too, had heard the same mysterious voice urging him to assist Julian.

However, unlike Athena, Marius was not inclined to follow such directives without scrutiny. His deep understanding of the Nephilim faith and its complexities made him cautious of blindly accepting divine instructions.

”Elder… please advise me… What are all these voices? What do they want? ” Marius, with his extensive knowledge and experience, provided a more nuanced perspective. He explained that within the Nephilim faith, there were two distinct denominations. One believed that such divine voices originated from the three supreme principalities, the highest beings in their pantheon. The other faction, however, held that these voices came from even higher, more abstract entities, beyond the principalities.

The elderly grand magus who had grown weary of the political machinations and intrigue within the Nephilim factions, was skeptical of claims that the voices came from the true gods. He had long distrusted the political use of divine messages for manipulation and control. Despite his skepticism, Marius was genuinely fond of Julian. He had witnessed Julianʼs potential and dedication during their previous interactions. ”I am willing to give you a chance to prove yourself. If you truly are chosen by the true gods”

Julian, who held Grand Magus Marius in deep respect, was deeply honored by the elderʼs willingness to assist him. Despite his current personal turmoil, Julian maintained his resolve and addressed Marius with unwavering honesty. ”Elder, I canʼt lie to you… I do not have faith in the Nephilim gods.”

Mariusʼs response was unexpected ”It doesnʼt matter how you feel. It is the gods who chose you, not the other way around.”

Having learned of Julianʼs predicament involving the problematic planet purchase, Marius offered a solution. ”I will help you secure the necessary permits and clear the bureaucratic hurdles,” Marius said, ”but in return, I need your commitment. You must pledge to participate in the Trial of Faith that will take place in five years.”

The Trial of Faith was a significant event, designed to test the resolve and worthiness of those who sought divine favor. Marius wanted to see Julianʼs determination and was willing to offer guidance and support over the coming years.

To ensure Julianʼs unwavering commitment, he insisted on a strict condition: Julian must not allow himself to be distracted by any other burdens or concerns for the next five years. Julian carefully considered the offer, weighing the implications of the elderʼs request. He had always envisioned establishing his foundation independently, free from Nephilim or any other external influences. However, after much reflection, he accepted the harsh reality of his situation.

Julian realized that few aspects of the universe were untouched by Nephilimʼs influence. The Nephilim had deep roots within Earthʼs history, and their presence extended to its various factions, including the Terra factions, which had origins entwined with their influence.

Acknowledging this pervasive reality, Julian made a firm decision. He agreed to the elderʼs terms and promised to devote himself fully to the Trial of Faith, committing to set aside all other distractions for the next five years.

Next, Elder Marius facilitated Julianʼs connection with the Papal Church organization, a powerful entity within the Nephilim sphere that wielded considerable influence without its demanding terms and commitments.

All that was needed for his acceptance was proof of his faith, something Julian had in abundance due to his proficiency with the Law of Sovereignty.

Additionally, Julian underwent a symbolic baptism of faith, marking his official entry into this new chapter. As part of this rite, he received his new name, Julius, a gesture that represented his renewed identity and commitment to his path.

Within weeks, Julian not only secured the necessary permits for his planet but also saw justice served as the Magus officials who had deceived him were located and executed.

Although Julian understood that the magus official was merely a pawn in a larger scheme, he took solace in this small victory, viewing it as a sign that justice had been served, even if only partially. ᚱ𝐀Ｎȱ𝐁Ε𝙎

Over the next few years, Julian dedicated himself to developing his newly acquired planet. He established a thriving kingdom and made significant strides in mastering the Law of Sovereignty. His relentless pursuit of knowledge and skill did not go unnoticed within the Papal organization. He steadily climbed the ranks, progressing from a mere scribe to achieving the esteemed title of Holy Knight.

Julianʼs efforts culminated in the Trial of Faith, a rigorous and prestigious examination. His success in this trial earned him the revered title of ʼHeavenly Ruler,] marking his official coronation as the Nephilimʼs prestigious ʼHeavenly Sonʼ. This accolade not only solidified his status but also recognized his profound achievements and commitment within the Nephilim hierarchy.

The five years proved to be a period of remarkable transformation and success for Julian. Each year seemed to bring a new miracle, affirming his commitment and progress.

Elder Marius, having observed Julianʼs unwavering dedication and the significant advancements he made, was increasingly convinced that Julian was indeed chosen by the true gods. Mariusʼs conviction was so strong that he came out of retirement, pledging his loyalty to Julian. He became the first Elder of Nove Roma, a testament to Julianʼs rising influence and the respect he garnered within the Nephilim community.

During this time, Julianʼs relationship with the Nephilim gods deepened. His journey brought him closer to the divine, solidifying his faith and tempering his resolve.

He had grown both in stature and spirit, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and readiness to share his achievements with his friends. Julian felt a surge of pride as he prepared to deliver the good news, his head held high and his heart full of hope.

However, before he could do so, a figure approached him personally. It was Emery, who came to challenge his path and bring his personal justification.

”Canʼt you see what youʼve become?!! Youʼre nothing more than the Nephilimʼs slave now!”
