Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 2152: Inheritance

Ever since learning the truth behind Shintaʼs existence and setting his mind on rescuing his daughter, Emeryʼs inner turmoil had mostly settled. Boarding the Ouroboros mothership, he patiently adhered to the Queenʼs arrangements. Assured that Shinta was not in immediate danger, the ship embarked on a journey to visit other Serpent clan allies to garner their support.

With at least a week before reaching their destination, Emery retreated to his Magus Domain, determined to further prepare himself for any challenges that lay ahead.

One immediate step to increase his strength was to fully comprehend Mo Yanʼs inheritance. Since Emery began dominating the hunchback slave masterʼs soul, he had gleaned fragments of the manʼs memories. When he fully devoured the spirit master, Emery successfully acquired a few of Mo Yanʼs secret techniques, though they were incomplete.

In the last few weeks, Emery meticulously delved into these fragmented memories. Each piece of information was like a puzzle, gradually revealing the intricate details of Mo Yanʼs legacy. Three high-grade techniques from Mo Yanʼs inheritance stood out above the rest: [Spectral Gaze], [Spectral Form], and his renowned [Enslavement techniques]. Given his lack of high-grade spirit attack spells, Emery decided to focus on learning the tier 7 [Spectral Gaze] first, as it was the most complete of the three.

Utilizing VIAʼs assistance, Emery meticulously reconstructed the spell. He purchased multiple related tier 6 spirit attack spells and high-grade materials, successfully forming the spell two weeks ago during his time at the academy. However, mastering this tier 7 spell required months of dedicated practice. Currently, its potency was comparable to a tier 6 spell, providing minimal effects against grand magus realm figures.

[Spectral Form] was a tier 7 spell that transformed the strength of souls into a tangible form, providing both defensive and offensive capabilities. This spell had the potential to significantly enhance Emeryʼs combat repertoire, especially by compensating for his lack of robust defensive skills. However, it came with a significant drawback: its effectiveness was directly tied to the number of souls captured.

Emery had witnessed the soul prison that Mo Yan had created, a formidable structure that required vast resources and a minimum of a thousand captured souls to reach its basic stage of power. To maximize its potential, even more souls were needed. Building such a prison would be a monumental task, demanding not only the collection of valuable materials but also the procurement of a staggering number of souls.

While capturing a few dozen criminals and using their souls to enhance his power was within Emeryʼs capabilities and ethical boundaries, the scale required for [Spectral Form] was daunting. Capturing thousands of souls, even if they were criminals, could lead to unforeseen consequences. One pirate could be a factionʼs long-lost son; one bandit could be a relative of a Magus Alliance official.

Emery knew that if he relied on this method as his foundation to power, he risked becoming a target himself. One mistake, and not only could he endanger his Earth faction, but he could be hunted by powerful factions even the Magus Alliance, just as Mo Yan had been.

Unfortunately, the same foundation of soul accumulation that empowered [Spectral Form] was also integral to Mo Yanʼs fearsome tier 8 enslavement technique. This inheritance detailed that with a sufficiently large collective of souls, one could wield control over tens of grand magus figures. The sheer power and potential of commanding such forces were undeniably tempting for Emery. However, mastering this technique required a profound comprehension of the law of enslavement, a complex and dark magical discipline that Emery was reluctant to delve deeply into.

Despite his inability to fully master either [Spectral Form] or the [Enslavement technique], Emery found hope in dissecting and modifying these spells to suit his principles and needs better. His innovative mind began to explore the possibilities of adapting these powerful techniques in a way that aligned with his moral boundaries and personal strengths.

One ambitious project came to mind: instead of relying on captured souls, could he harness the energy of Khaos to fuel these spells? If he could tap into the raw, energy of Khaos, he might be able to achieve similar effects without resorting to morally questionable methods.

The second project involved salvaging the soul prison itself, a feat that promised to unlock new possibilities within his Magus Domain. The intricate formation runes that comprised the prisonʼs structure had the unique ability to accommodate a multitude of magus from different paths and spirit laws. If Emery could decipher and reconstruct these runes, he could enhance the versatility of his domain, allowing him to host a wider range of guests and potentially increasing his mobility when using Khaos waypoints.

Both projects gave him thrills, offering tantalizing challenges and immense potential for his growth as a magus. Unfortunately, the prospect of such reconstruction, if even possible, loomed dauntingly ahead, requiring months, if not years a luxury of time that he simply didnʼt possess.

Unable to embark on elaborate projects or delve into extensive research, he was left with the last shelved project, one that came from salvaging part of Mo Yanʼs formidable enslavement techniques.

[Partial Soul Enslavement]

Emery had achieved a breakthrough in comprehending this tier 6 spell. However, despite his best efforts and a considerable investment of resources, he encountered failure after failure in his attempts to reconstruct the spell. Three times he tried, pouring an exorbitant sum of 20 million spirit stones into procuring the necessary materials, only to meet with disappointment each time. Seizing the opportunity while still aboard the Ouroboros spaceship, he secretly utilized his Khaos waypoints to access additional resources. With another hefty investment of 20 million spirit stones and hours of tireless effort and unwavering perseverance, Emeryʼs diligence paid off. With a sense of triumph tinged with relief, he successfully reconstructed the [Partial Soul Enslavement].

Returning to his Magus Domain, Emery wasted no time in putting his newly acquired skill to the test. Venturing into the chamber where the colossal King Roc beast was securely restrained, he embarked on a rigorous regimen of practice and experimentation, eager to gauge the effectiveness of his newfound ability.

Fully immersed in his training, Emery was interrupted by a sudden knock on his door. Startled, he returned to his room and opened the door to find Master Atika standing before him, a surprising and unexpected visitor.

”Itʼs time for you to continue your sword training,”
