My Youth Began With Him

Seeing Lin Ya, Huo Mian’s mood turned dark. Without looking up, she answered impatiently, “It’s okay.”

“Miss Mian, Master made the wonton noodles in person,” Messiah put in, wanting to soften the tension between mother and daughter.

Hearing her words, Huo Mian put down the chopsticks and picked up a slice of bread.

Obviously, she didn’t want to eat the noodles now that she knew Lin Ya cooked it.

“Messiah, leave us.”

“Yes, Master.”

Lin Ya walked over gracefully and sat across from Huo Mian; picking up an orange, she began to peel it patiently.

“Oranges contain lots of vitamins; you must eat more of them. When I was pregnant with you, I loved to eat oranges. Your father bought lots of them for me. At that time, we were hiding in Dong Tao Town and your father bought all the oranges in the town… I even joked with him that we should call you Little Orange when you were born.”

This was a heart-warming topic and Lin Ya had a happy look on her face when she recalled this incident.

But Huo Mian couldn’t tell if she was being sincere or not because Lin Ya was an excellent actress.

“Now you’re a big girl and your father has aged a lot with lots of white hair…” Lin Ya said.

“Aging is part of life. Everyone gets old. It’s the nature’s rule that people are born, age, get sick, and die,” Huo Mian answered coldly.

“Mian, do you think I’ve aged?”

Lin Ya put her slim hand on the back of Huo Mian’s hand.

Her hand was so cold that Huo Mian felt frightened the moment their hands touched.

Huo Mian immediately pushed Lin Ya’s hand away.

“You’re forever young and beautiful, okay? If you want to hear compliments, I hope you can go to your subordinates. After all, I’m eccentric and don’t like sucking up to people and might offend you if I talk too much.”

“I know you’re not pleased with me.” Lin Ya looked at Huo Mian calmly.

Angry, Huo Mian put down the bread and looked up at Lin Ya with glaring eyes.

“I’m not only displeased with you; I’m disappointed with you… Let’s not talk about our relationship, but you imprisoned me and Yan and even caught Dad; then you put on a family reunion act. Are you done with playing, Dr. Lin Ya? Do you want the whole world to play along with you?”

“Mian, I’ll ask you a question. You must answer me honestly.”

“Shoot,” Huo Mian answered in a huff.

“Do you want to… live forever and never get old?”

“Of course. I’m not good-looking, but still I want to stay young forever; I hope I can always retain my current mature look at thirty years old and enjoy eternity with my husband by my side.”

Huo Mian expressed her wish but she knew it was impossible to live forever and never grow old; no piece of human technology could realize this dream.

People only lived this kind of dream in novels and movies…

“If I have a way to make people live forever and never grow old, would you help me, so we can live forever…?”

“You mean… you have a way for you to live forever and never grow old?” Huo Mian looked at Lin Ya doubtfully, not sure if she was telling the truth.
