My Youth Began With Him

Then, she immediately waved her hands. “No, I can’t. I studied neurosurgery on my own, but I don’t have any clinical experience. The brain structure is too complicated, I can’t take a risk like this.”

“I think if you performed the surgery with Dr. Liu and the others, the success rate will be higher.”

Director Wu never placed faith on those who didn’t deserve it; Qin Chu was of course the best choice, but current circumstances don’t allow for him to perform the surgery.

Therefore, if Qin Yumin’s conditions were dire, why not get Huo Mian to perform it instead?

“I don’t think I can,” Huo Mian said quietly.

“But I think you can.”

“Director Wu…” Huo Mian looked up but didn’t know what to say.

“You won’t be performing the surgery by yourself, you can just be Dr. Liu’s assistant… The patient is your father-in-law, the risks would be higher if you weren’t in the OR, is that what you want?”

“Director Wu, this is too big, I can’t make the decision without thinking about it. Can you give me some time? I need to sleep on it.”

“Sure… but you’ll have to hurry up, we can’t push back the operation any further. Get back to me within three days.”

“Okay…”

“You should head back, call me when you’ve made a decision.”

After leaving the director’s office, Huo Mian pondered what the director just said with a heavy heart; wasn’t it too risky for her to perform a craniotomy on her father-in-law?

After going downstairs to see her in-laws, Huo Mian went to see the head nurse at the OB/GYN department. Xu Yan was the head nurse of the OB/GYN Department at the First Hospital, and Huo Mian’s first boss after graduation.

Although she was a strict woman, she was also honest and therefore, Huo Mian always kept in contact with her. Although they didn’t see each other often, they were close friends nonetheless.

“Head Nurse.”

“Mian? Why are you here?” Xu Yan was sitting in her office, pleasantly surprised to see Huo Mian show up all of a sudden.

“I was chatting with Director Wu about my father-in-law’s surgery and thought I’d pay you a visit.”

“Come sit, I just finished work.” Xu Yan patted the chair beside her; she liked Huo Mian very much. “I heard what happened with your father-in-law, is he undergoing surgery soon?”

Huo Mian nodded. “Mhm, we can’t push it back any longer, his tumor is growing fast.”

“Stay confident and believe in miracles,” Xu Yan patted Huo Mian’s shoulder in consolation, and the latter nodded. “I will. Head Nurse, I actually had a favor to ask you.”

“Sure, go ahead,” Xu Yan agreed almost immediately.

“Do you remember the man you tried to introduce me?”

“Oh… that distant cousin brother of mine?”

“Yeah, Lin Mingyu.”

“I do, why?” Xu Yan smiled.

“I was wondering if you could give me his contact information.”

“Why? Did you…” Xu Yan heard about Huo Mian’s divorce and was surprised because she thought the latter wanted to pick things up with her cousin.

“No, please don’t misunderstand me, I wanted to ask him some questions about my husband’s case, I heard he was a forensic expert in charge of analyzing corpses.”

“Oh, I see. Sure, give me a second and I’ll find his number for you.”

The head nurse gave Lin Mingyu’s number to Huo Mian, and she called him as soon as she walked out of the hospital, “Hello, is this Mr. Lin Mingyu?”

“This is he, may I ask who’s calling?”

“I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Huo Mian.”

“I do, you’re GK’s Young Madam,” Lin Mingyu said calmly, making Huo Mian feel a little awkward.

“I asked Head Nurse Xu for your phone number because I had some questions that I wanted to ask you. Do you have time to meet with me?”

After five seconds of silence, Lin Mingyu said, “I’m at work.”

“I can go look for you, and I promise not to take too much of your time, is that okay?” Huo Mian asked carefully.

“Did you want to ask me about your husband’s murder case?” Lin Mingyu suddenly asked her back.
