S.P.E.C.T.O.R – [A Sci-fi space adventure with fantasy elements]

”Dear viewers, I’m speechless. I honestly don’t know what just happened. One moment, the rider of the motorcycle was aiming his weapon at the car, then a red light appeared, and now the car has gone.”

”I honestly do not even know how to explain this as I have never seen anything like it.”

The news reporter was about to continue when she realised that they were no longer following the motorcycle.

”Hey, why have you stopped following? Catch up already.”

”Are you crazy? That guy somehow just deleted that car from existence. If you want to follow him, go ahead, but I have no interest in being removed from existence.”

💫💫💫

The stream may have ended, but the chat was still going strong.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Can anyone just explain to me what just happened?]

[SciFifanboy (Earth): A blaster, THAT’S SO SCIFI!!!!]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): No way.]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): But a gun like that doesn’t and shouldn’t exist; if it did, I would know about it.]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): That was a disintegration shot, right?]

[Prestigious3horns (Vinox 2): I believe so, I don’t understand how that’s possible though.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): You guys are saying you know what happened?]

[Prestigious3horns (Vinox 2): I think so; however, a blaster should not be able to do that. A disintegration or vaporising shot, as some call it, removes the object it hits from existence, like what we just saw.]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): The issue here is that the currently only known weapons capable of firing a disintegration shot are all huge. I’m talking about having to be attached to a huge vehicle; the technology simply has not been developed enough to be compacted into a blaster.]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): Let alone a Phalanx MK2, which is known for its weak power, that’s like the complete opposite.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Could it be a military secret?]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): It’s not much of a secret anymore kekeke.]

[Prestigious3horns (Vinox 2): Doubtful, disintegration shot has only been around a few years, it’s still new tech.]

[Prestigious3horns (Vinox 2): Yeah, I remember seeing on the news feeds that after its creation was announced, there was a huge debate about it in the Universal Senate.]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): Yeah, some galactic senators were concerned that it would be misused, and therefore a motion was passed saying that it was exclusive for military use only]

[AlamoMatador4thewin (Earth): Hey guys, you’re not going to believe this, but after checking the news feeds like duck asked, I learnt that the game we have been watching is no game it actually happened here in Alamo City, there was special live coverage of the chase by Stephanie Jones in the channel 9 helicopter.]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): I think you mean the police, and it’s a moot point now anyway. After what he did to that car, there is no way they will be willing to continue chasing him; they aren’t paid enough for that.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): True, if they get shot by a normal gun, they at least have a chance to survive, but if they get shot by Spector’s, there won’t even be a body left to be buried.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): All we can do is hope and wait for him to stream again.]

After losing the police, Adam had dumped the bike before blending in with a nearby crowd.

He currently felt like he was coming down off a major high and had to find a place to sit down because the adrenaline boost his body naturally provided, as well as whatever Spector had done to him, were both wearing off.

He entered a nearby park and found a secluded bench to sit down on before closing his eyes and enjoying the relaxing sound of nature around him for a few minutes.

Finally, he asked, ”What did you do to me?”

(I assisted you in overcoming your natural aversion to taking a life that was brought about by your peaceful life up until your recent near-death incident.)

(One of the parameters for suggesting Justin Phillips as the first target was that there are no records of him owning a gun, unlike the other targets.)

(I thus calculated that this target would grant you the greatest amount of time needed for you to mentally prepare and accept killing someone for the first time before some unknown variable interfered. )

(The longer you took to pull the trigger, the greater the chance of an unknown variable. After detecting that your bank account had been tracked, I recalculated the allocated time for you to act, and after that time elapsed, I provided assistance.)

”Assistance? You deliberately affected my mind and reasoning.”

(Affirmative, however, if I hadn’t, it is likely you wouldn’t have been able to shoot both the target and the unknown variable that appeared, culminating in either your forced retreat or your death.)

”Fine, fine, I understand your logic and reasoning, but I still don’t like that you have the ability to affect my mind.”

”If you’re going to affect my mind every time I elapse the optimal time you have calculated for something, I don’t want to be your operator. Is this going to be a problem in the future?”

There was silence for a few moments before Spector replied.

(Biological beings’ emotions do not follow logic and cannot be calculated. I fail to understand your logic and reasoning on this topic. What do you propose?)

”I propose that any instances in the future where you would affect my mind or body in any way, you first have to ask for permission and give your reasoning.”

(Ineffective, if you are in the middle of combat, you won’t have time to process my request.)

”Well, I don’t like the idea of you affecting my mind or body when you want, so it’s that or nothing.”

Spector was silent again for a time before responding.

(This is acceptable if you allow me to temporarily increase your serotonin levels whenever I wish to request permission to affect your mind or body while you’re in combat.)

”How would that affect me?” Adam asked with a frown.

(Increased serotonin will make it appear as if time is slowing down for you, thus allowing you to process my request even while in combat.)

”Hmmm, are there adverse effects to this?”

(Not in small instances, however, if used frequently, minor symptoms can include shivering and diarrhoea, while overuse can produce symptoms of muscle rigidity, fever and seizures.)

”Hmmm, since you can monitor my body functions, can you alert me if I am approaching each symptom level?”

(Affirmative.)

”Very well, this is acceptable.”

(Understood, implementing change.)

”Now that that’s out of the way, let’s discuss my next move. I’m assuming I should leave Viktor for last?”

(The order the targets are eliminated is up to the potential operator’s discretion; I only provide suggestions based on the available data.)

”Hmmm.”

(However, based on the available data, it will most likely be Donald Simmons who will be the last to be eliminated.)

”Oh, why is that?” Adam asked curiously.
